Service was terrible (our waiter was slow, inattentive, and forgetful). The food was about on par with Applebee's. The building is pretty neat, but the tables are diner-like and crammed up against each other (no privacy at all). Our $85

I have been eating here off and on for years. This place has the best food ever!! They make their own bread crumbs fresh! The jagerschnitzel is the best I've had since I was in Germany. They use veal instead of pork, and it literally

I took my family here because I had bought a Groupon and love German food, had heard good things about the place, so thought I would try it. Called ahead to make sure we could use the Groupon on a Saturday night and was told we could but that it would be an hour before we could come in because they were busy. Was quoted a time of one hour from when I was called. When we arrived, the woman said our name was not on the list (?! What happened with the information I gave over the phone when they wanted to verify everything I had told them?) but added us and told us we could sit down and wait. About 15 minutes later we got a seat. 25 minutes went by before our presence was even acknowledged to take our drink order. After our drinks were brought, 15 more minutes passed before the waiter took our dinner order. By the time we got our food we had been sitting at the table for over an hour and a half. Portion sizes were small for the price, and for the amount of time we waited and the overall experience, I would rate this 2 stars. I won't give it a 1 because the food was decent (although, as stated, overpriced), but I definitely will not be back to European Bistro. Disappointed to say the least.

My husband and I have been fans of European foods for many years, as we like to try cuisines of different cultures. We were disillusioned by the rigidness of the local restaurants and the unfriendly service by the hired staff, where the quality of food items has always been below standard, even if they actually served the menu item that we ordered.

So, you understand the reason of our excitement when we heard about the European Bistro of Pflugerville for the first time, from an acquaintance during the July 4th celebration, on Fort Hood. The man, who brought this restaurant to our attention was Hungarian like myself and loved tasty food and good service. A few days later, my husband and I were on our way to the European Bistro with high expectations and empty stomachs.

The staff of the European Bistro welcomed us in a friendly manner and with smile, which by the way, have never disappeared. The food was simply delicious and reminded me of Hungary. We had the opportunity to relax while listening to Hungarian songs or live piano music. The food was absolutely delicious, because the seasonings were chosen to complement each other and, most importantly, the entire meal was made on site, even the breadcrumbs as opposed to the every-day restaurants, where everything is ready-to-make, the kitchen staff just have to heat up the ingredients, and there you go?

Of course, it took a little longer for our food to be prepared than it would have taken in an average American restaurant. We did not mind the waiting time, because we know that it takes time to make good food. By the time we finished our dinner, we felt relaxed and happy not realizing that the time flew by. The owner took time to talk to us, as she usually talks to all patrons, to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction. When we left the restaurant, we knew that we were going to come back as we do every other week. The European Bistro is in an easy-to-find location, even if you do not live in Austin.

We recommend the European Bistro to those people, who want quality food and quality service.

John and I had dinner at the European Bistro on Saturday night and the entire dinner and evening was far beyond what we expected. The service was very attentive. The chef came out to greet us just prior to the owner stopping by our table to ask about our dinner. The waiter was very helpful in helping us select our entrees and the prior courses. The starter was just what I hoped for, I cannot remember the name, but it was a Hungarina wanton. The second item was the most wonderful cucumber salad, my husband is going to attempt to replicate it for me. My husband is still talking about his dinner, a combination of duck liver and red cabbage. I am not a fan of liver, he is, and he is still talking about it to his friends. I will give you a quote from him, " the combination of flavors in this dish were incomparable....if was a feast for the palate. I think he will be trying to figure this one out until he goes back and stands in the kitchen while they prepare it.
This was a wonderful dinner we stumbled onto by accident, it was better than dinners we have paid three times the price for. We will be driving back to the Austin area to visit this one soon. Kathy and John

As soon as I walked in I could not help, but notice how beautiful the interior was. I felt like I was back in Europe again. It was so beautiful that I could not help, but to think of my times in Europe.

The food was so good. My sister took me out for my birthday and I could not be happier at that moment. I am a big fan of different styles of food and this place was great. The owner came and talked to us and I enjoyed our conversation. I started out with an appetizer 1 made from lamb and the other from beef. Both were great. My main course was a meal made from veal and I loved it. We had a party of 5 and everyone enjoyed their meal thoroughly.

I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

My husband, who is hungarian born and raised, introduced me to this place a few years ago and we make it a point to get there as much as possible. Food is always great, only place of we know to get certain hungarian wines and it's very well priced. The cucumber salad is excellent and my husband loves the cheese strudel. He says it's almost as good as his grandmother's and he will specifically request it when making a reservation (recommended for the weekends) to make sure they have it. She made a fresh one just for us last time we were in.
The owner is very sweet and always comes by to check on us and chat us up. Don't miss it!

Visiting Austin from Seattle, we searched to find something other than steak and ribs. We feel fortunate to have found the European Bistro. The 25 minute drive to Pflugerville was straightforward and well worth the time. The borscht was heavenly and the German potato salad was the best I ever had! The pork shank and salmon entrees were done to perfection and the apple strudel dessert topped off a perfect evening. The wait staff was friendly, attentive and pleasant to converse with. The owner stopped by and proved knowledgeable about the cuisine and was delightful to talk to. This dining experience will be one we'll long remember.

What a wonderful restaurant! The Hungarian recipes taste just like my mother use to make, full of flavor and cooked perfectly! I love the old-world ambiance, especially the paintings and the Hungarian music. I've been twice, driving up from Houston, and it was well worth the trip each time. The wait staff are friendly and efficient; the owner is interesting and fun to talk to, and the chef is a dream come true!!

We have been dining there for five years with no increase of price during that entire time.

This food is really really amazing. The Hungarian food here is fantastic, as agreed to by my Hungarian born and raised bf.

They are super friendly, and made a wonderful atmosphere for my 20th B-day.

Both my American family and my Hungarian bf love this place. I will be back many many times!

With the new toll road done, Pflugerville is only 1/2 hour from Buda, via 130. Exit Pecan St. We have been coming here for years, and have never been disappointed. Hungarian and German food is true comfort food. We recommend the Albanian Salad, the cherry soup, the deep fried mushrooms, the borscht, any of the entrees, the house wine is Hungarian, but other wines are also available. The special is always great. All their foods are wonderful. Try the Tokaj wine with dessert. The Eastern European culture is wonderful, but still undiscovered, and this is a great place to sample it. This restaurant is family-owned, and part of the family grows all their peppers, back in Hungary. When you come here, you're part of the family, too!

Anna,

My wife, Shari and I had a great time at your restaurant. The wait staff gave us great service that night. We enjoyed talking to the other couples and drinking wine while waiting to be seated. No complaints from us, just our compliments to the chef and your staff for great food and service. I am very happy that you have such a fine establishment serving Hungarian food.. It was a real treat to find European Bistro in Tx being that I am half Hungarian. The musician was fantastic - I asked her to play a chardas and the songs reminded me of my childhood.
Thanks again for a fantastic evening!!

Joe & Shari

My wife and I had a great time and the food was wonderful. European Bistro is highly recommended.

I had been to the European Bistro several years ago when it first opened and was impressed. So when I got an email about their Valentine's Day special, I thought it would be a unique dinner for us. We reserved early online and got a call back twice and confirmed our reservations by phone. It was much to our surprise then when we arrive for an early dinner at 6:30 that they had apparently been lost. After a half hour wait (along with several other couples) we were seated. It took an eternity to be served (2 hours in all) and the food was unremarkable. The appetizer a salmon pate' was served with too few bread sticks to really appreciate it. The cream of asparagus soup was good, but not outstanding. My lamb was overdone (the red cabbage was excellent) and my wife's salmon was palatable, but unexceptional even though the sauce was unusual. We had to ask to get our dessert and the bill was extraordinary with the gratuity already added in--an affront to our dining sensibilities--$258 for two people--we did have champagne to be fair. Interestingly people who order the steak seemed to be served much faster than other entrees. As the place was full, we assumed the owner made enough to pay for her next trip to Hungary. There was a definite shortage of wait staff (we counted 4 waiters for over 20 tables) and our waiter was doubling as the manager. The accordion player was very good--a bright spot of the evening and decor of the restaurant was definitely romantic and interesting. Our overall feeling--a ripe candidate for a "Kitchen Nightmare" episode.

Had tried this spot for lunch and was pleased with interesting food. Called and made reservations for a birthday dinner. Owner made suggestions for flowers, table, birthday banner...I accepted suggestions and plans. Arrived for dinner...no knowledge of reservations noted. Waited an eternity for a table to be made available. Two stale, drooping, pink roses in tacky vase for male's birthday was put together at last second. (should have been red roses). Birthday banner? printed out (on dot matrix ?) then taped together. Service was poor, slow. Food was good but the night was soured. Disappointing. Will not be returning.

After having heard and read about The European Bistro, we finally had an opportunity to go there this past weekend and we were extremely impressed. It is much easier to get to and closer to Austin than we had realized. We went with a large party and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The wait staff was professional and attentive. More than half the party were children and the wait staff was very good with them as well. The waiter recommended a sampling of appetizers that were happily passed around. Given the size of our group we had a pretty good cross section of everything on the menu and everyone was content. Fortunately, we had saved room for dessert and those were excellant as well. We heartily recommend The European Bistro and intend to return often.

Do you want private get away, causal atmosphere, and tasty food with a European flare? Then the European-Bistro is your best bet. The food is different but filled with traditional flavor. Desserts melt in your mouth and go great with a fresh cup of coffee, espresso or fruit drink. The atmosphere is filled with history dating back to the 1800s. This is Pflugerville's best hidden secret for food beyond the hassle of downtown Austin's warehouse district. Reservations are reccommeded but not necessary. The Hungarian Sister will make you feel at home and treat you as their own family member.
Go to European Bistro for the food and the best service in Central Texas.

I love the building this restaurant is in. We went for lunch on saturday and there was only one other group there, it was dark and a little too quiet in there but the food was to die for. We ordered the beef gulyas with a side of spaetzle....yummm! Amazingly tender, melt in your mouth good...but soo lean. It was wonderful, I also has a garden salad with homemade tomato basil vinagarette which was soo unique and tasty. To be honest, i think the decor is out of date, bordering on tacky, but its obvious that they are going for a romantic, higher-end ambiance. The food made up for this, however, it was wonderful. Our server was very knowlegable and farmilliar with the menu and friendly enough, maybe slightly snooty, but not rude. We were too full for dessert but they had some delicious looking crepes and strudle...I will try them in the future. Overall...don't let the decor deter you...the food is worth it. I think we went at an off time of day, so it wasnt crowded...I dont know how it would be at dinner.

My husband and I visited the restaurant on a Thursday night. We were the only patrons for about an
hour. We were served by a very cordial young man, who remembered serving our friend, who had
recommended the Bistro. My husband and I had the homemade bread with the cheese spread, an
outstanding cucumber salad, potato dumplings with the hunter sauce(marvelous) and wienerschitzel,
(too much breading and not enough schnitzel), but tasty. The atmosphere is great and we loved the
historic building. We have not found this quality food, since the original German-American restaurant
closed at Buchanan Dam.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here last weekend, and it was incredible. It was our first time in, and he wanted to surprise me with a German restaurant (I grew up in Bavaria). They had a special area you can use for anniversaries and such, and it was very romantic (dimmed lights, candles, rose petals...lovely). We had a great German champagne for not much more than a bottle of wine. My husband and I split their salad sampler (LOVE the Albanian!!) and the Potato Dumplings, which were a treat. We then had the Borscht and Gulyas soups and for dinner my husband had the Roast Duck with the Hungarian salsa (which was really tasty). It was an entire half of a duck, so he had to take a lot home! I had the Schweine Hoxe which came with Mashed Potatoes with Onions. It was INCREDIBLE! The pork was so tender, it just fell off the bone, and the skin was perfectly crispy. For dessert, my husband convinced me, and we splurged and split the Chestnut Cake and the Cheese Strudel. As much as I resisted, I'm really glad we did - they were awesome! The evening was a little bit pricey, but it was well worth it!! I'll definitely be going back again - SO GLAD to have a great German restaurant in the area.

Pros: Ambiance, Food Quality, Service

Cons: We didn't want to leave!!

It was my wifes birthday and I wanted to surprise her and take her to a new restaurant for a new experience. At first, I thought this would be a great experience because the building (inside and out) is very charming and the perfect place for a romantic dinner.

We waited about 10 minutes and the server came to our table and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered a glass of wine, glass of beer, bread and potato dumplings and our main course. After another 10 minutes the server brought our drinks and bread (this was the best part of the meal except for the quantity of wine, which was a small glass filled half full).

Then the real wait started..... 10 minutes, then 20 minutes, then 30 minutes. Finally after 35 minutes our meal arrived with no appetizers (the potato dumplings). We advised the server and she said it was not her fault, that it did'nt print out in the kitchen. She advised us that she would comp our bread order.

Now for the meal, my wife ordered the special (beef tips in sauce) that was recommended by the server and I order the veal schnitzel. The food was at best poor to average.

The fest part of the meal was the beer, which was good.

When we received our bill (over $86.00), the bread was not comped.

As my wife said, it is the thought that counts.

I was raised on traditional Polish food and I found this restaurant serving food that is the closest to what I ate in "Poletown" Detroit, Michigan. I had the Mushroom Crepes, my husband had the Cordon Bleu. Our guests sampled the salads and had the goulash. We loved the ambience with the accordian player and her beautiful voice. The service was very nice. We will go there often.

WoW ? all the epicurean competition amongst the Austin elite to determine the eatery of eateries. SOCO or 2nd street. Warehouse district or Four Seasons. Well you are all blowing it because you hate to think that Pflugerville ? yup ? Pflugerville simply stops you all dead in your tracks.

Try the delightful European Bistro, a little restaurant tucked away on Main Street in the city with the funny first few consonants.

Anni and Piroska, the Hungarian sisters, treat you like you were in Europe. No rushing! No hard sell. A warm welcome from Anni, a firm explanation from her son of the available entrees, and you are on your way.

Treat yourself to a traditional goulash, or chicken paprikash, or if you are simply dying to find the perfect cordon bleu or schnitzel, look no farther. This is the best European fare to be found anywhere in this area.

I just recently dined at the European-Bistro for dinner and fell in love with the restaurant, the food and the owner! I had fresh bread with farmer's cheese spread, marinated beet salad, sour cherry soup and Hungarian Goulash with spaztel. All of it was wonderful, authentic, and delicious The waitress was friendly and served the food promptly. The paintings on the wall were gorgeous and you really feel like you are in Hungary. Shirley Johnson was there and played the accordian as well as sing. She sings in several different languages and sounds like an angel in all of them. Anni, the owner, came by my table to ask if everything was alright and to make sure that I sign their guest book. Every New Year's Eve she gives away 1 week at her family's Budapest Condo for up to four guests. Transporation is up to the winner but her sister picks you up and takes you back to the airport. I received a business card with $5 off the next time I come in provided that i bring a guest. My husband and I plan to be there soon. Reservations are required for the weekend. I highly recommend this place. It has to be Pflugervile's best kept secret.

The Bistro is a unique and special place to spend an evening. The atmosphere is relaxed, yet classy, the service is thorough and polite. The food is a treat. It is authentic and clearly prepared by a passionate staff. I have never had anything but a fabulous experience there.

Let me say this don't ever go here if you have to be somewhere else. The service was very friendly but HORRIBLE! It was soooo slow we were convinced it was our waiter's first night. The table next to us actually walked out because no one greeted them after 10 minutes! As for the food..the beef pierogies were awesome and the sourcream & dill sauce was awesome. I had my chicken schnitzel again and I asked for mushroom gravy and well I didn't get mushroom gravy, I got some other sauce, even though I was charged for mushroom gravy. We were in arush to get to the movie so there was no point in complaining.

My wife and I are German, so we know real German and Hungarian Food. And I have to tell you this is the real deal. We both started with the Fried Cauliflowers for appetizers, which were crispy and delicious, followed by a cup of the Gulyas Soup that tasted just like my own mom would make it. My wife then had the Jaegerschnitzel with Spaetzle, and I treated myself to the Roasted Duck with Potatoes. Both dishes tasted delicious and authentic, and the portions were very generous.
As a finishing touch we indulged on the freshly baked Apple Strudel with Vanilla Ice Cream. The service was exceptional and very knowledgeable. We spent $90 for the two of us, which is reasonable for the amount and quality of food, and the service we received.
We will definitely go back.

If you are looking for an amazing dining experience, look no further. The food is exquisite and authentic to the regions they showcase. Come expecting to spend some time enjoying your meal, they really do cook the entree when you order it. The most popular dish is jaeger schnitzel and was wonderful accompanied with their homemade spatzle. Their wine list is varied and delightful and their selection of imported beer is a must see. Anni is a lovely hostess who is attentive to her customers and makes wonderful reccommendations; take her up on something and you won't be dissappointed. You must have everything from appetizers to dessert, nothing can compare to these dishes. Rounding out the wonderful atmosphere is their pianist who plays throughout the evening on Friday and Saturday.

Cost can range for a meal from modest to expensive. For $90/2 people we had 2 glasses of wine, a bottle of beer, 2 orders of jaeger schnitzel, appetizers, soups, salad, and desserts. We would have spent that much at Texas Road House and not batted an eye, so don't let the cost keep you away. Check out their website and come visit them in Pflugerville. You won't be disappointed!!!

Thank you Anni and all of the staff at European Bistro, it made a lovely 10th anniversary dinner and your restaurant has become our new favorite place to eat!

Pros: Too many to list! Great food, great service, wonderful pianist!!

Cons: It's in old downtown Pflugerville, so parking gets tricky, but a block to walk is no big deal.

I'm new to this city. I really wanted to find places that are close to home. The food in this restaurant was very good! Very close to what you have in a restaurant in mid-Europe. They even had some Hungarian wine. The place was nice too. We liked it very much!

This place is amazing!! I thought I stepped into Berlin itself when I walked in the door! I was referrred to this wonderful resturant by friends and family who also accomponied me. We were promptly greeted at the door and seated. My experiance was amazing! I loved the food and was truely taken care of as a customer. The most genuine care and concern for customers well being was greatly appreciated. The food can not even be described in words. It is a must see and taste for yourself. The food is made fresh to order and all by hand. You have to appreciate the amount of work and preperation it takes to make one dish. Yes it may take a little longer but it is worth it. This is not a place to come rush in and out of. Come have a seat and enjoy a great meal. The owner and operator is from over seas and is makin a life out of this buisness and puts her heart into it. Once again it is the best service and food I've had in the state.

I was recommened this gem by a friend of mine and was in love with it immediately. The atmosphere is like being in the old country. Every morsal of food reminds me of grandmother's meals from when I was a little boy. My girlfriend loved the pastries. Very surprised to find such a wonderful meal here in the Austin area.

My wife and I, along with my brother and his girlfriend tried it out for the first time about 5 months ago. The servers where absolutly the very best I have ever had. We had never eaten most of the items on the menue and our waiter took his time to explain to us what everything was and what would make a great dining experience. We had several appatizers and we all tried something different. I was lucky enough to have gotten the Jagershnitzel. It was huge with a perfectly seasoned muchroom sauce. By then end of the night my wife and I decided that we would have our 1st wedding annaversery there. That was an even better experience for us. They had sitting in our own romantic room with antique dishes and silverware along with roses, wine and a ribbon that stated it was our 1st anniversary. I highly recomend this place to everyone.

This restaurant is off the beaten path, but well worth visiting (as numerous newspaper articles and reviews have already pointed out). They don't server hot dogs, pizza, or hoagies, ok? You can get those things anywhere. What they serve is delicious, authentic eastern european food. My wife and I recently took my mom there and she said it was the best food she had eaten. To put that in context: my mom is German, born and raised.

You don't have to go there for a special occassion (you can walk in off the street for lunch or dinner), but they do have special booths set up for couples and it is a great place for an anniversary dinner or other special occassion. That have other special arrangements for larger groups as well, so don't be shy about bringing your friends along with you.

My husband and I have been going to European Bistro for years. We loved it so much that when we got engaged we couldn't think of a better place to have our rehearsal dinner. Anie and her staff are the most helpful and welcoming people around. This is the perfect place for a date. The food is always perfect! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. In the winter, make sure you order the Gluwein!

Being from Eastern Europe myself, this place is just like back home. The Bistro is elegant, but still very welcoming. The staff was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the dishes and the large wine and beer offerings. They have traditional Checz, Romanian, Hungarian Russian and German selections and the most decedent deserts in Austin (I recommend the Austrian Dumpling!!! WOW!!!). My husband made reservations at one of their special tables to celebrate our anniversary; the staff prepared the table with Silk Ribbon printed with our name and a dozen roses. First class all the way!

This place is wonderful, defiantly worth the trip. I am always looking for someplace new in the city and this place is perfect. Great atmosphere (Perfect for dates!), and the food are unbeatable as is the wine and beer lists. I had the stuffed turkey breast with parsley potatoes, and cucumber salad and my guest had Rabbit with hunter sauce, potato dumpling and red cabbage. We both could not get enough and I will certainly be returning. Make sure you save room for desert.

This place is wonderful!!! Where else can you get rabbit or schnitzel? (both are delicious, so is the chicken paprikash). The beer selection is impressive. The last time I went was for my birthday, and the waiter talked us into more desserts than we needed--but I'm so glad he did--they were all fresh and good!! The atmosphere is home-y, but nice. A great place to take parents or other family members. Downtown P-ville location is charming.

I went there after reading the article in the Chronicle, not knowing what entirely to expect.. It took some finding due to the fact it is off the beaten path.. but it was WELL WORTH the effort! The atmosphere alone was worth the trip! I simply cannot believe that two people alone created such a wonderful little hideaway! My greatest fear now is that I will never be able to be seated because the food is just THAT good! Try the Chicken Paprikas! Heavenly! Desserts? Oh man.. I can say goodbye to diets forever!

I'm originally from Germany, by moving to the US I found it is extremly hard to find really good Austrian or German food. Don't get me wrong found a couple of them in the area, but this is the first with a nice not beer garden ambience.
Cool this is not only Hungarian, it also has some German and Austrian favorites. Well there is one favorite that is like my grandmother made it, the liver is great if you like it. Anyhow you cannot go wrong in this place everything is great, the schnitzel, the rabbit, the duck and my wife's favorite the stuffed turkey breast... no the paprika chicken.... everythings good like I said.
