My wife and I decided to try The Butcher Shop after I purchased a discount gift certificate online for the restaurant. We decided to go on a Saturday night around 7:30 pm. I assumed that this would be a busy time, so I went to their website and did an online reservation. When we got to the restaurant we opened the doors and there were a total of 3 other tables. We were greeted by someone who was obviously not a host or hostess. They were wearing chef pants and a t-shirt. Also, I have read other reviews where people said they displayed all their meats in a windowed cooler as you walk by, apparently not anymore. The cooler was completely empty. After being seated by a cook, we ordered a glass of wine and then placed our orders. We ordered the 8 oz Filet Mignon priced at $30.00. The waiter then brought us some unimpressive bread and then our salads with wilted lettuce. A few minutes later he brought us our entrees. I was immediately over taken by an awful smell. I thought at first it was the twice baked potato (which was horrible and swimming in a pool of oil) but it was actually the steaks. It appears they put a lot of garlic powder on their steaks.
We were very disappointed in this place. They were charging Ruths Chris prices for Golden Corral steaks. The atmosphere was also lacking. The place looked like it should be upscale but they were playing XM radio. So as we sat there we got to listen to "sunny" music and commercials. Something else we noticed on the way out was our waiter and the bartender both standing in the corner eating dinner.
I am not sure what happened to this place. From reading other reviews, it looks like new owners took over this place and it is slowly going downhill. I suggest they contact Gordon Ramsay and his Kitchen Nightmares show. That is what this place reminded me of.
