This is my opinion: Southridge Animal Hospital is too busy to pay good attention to your pets and their warning signs. After they put my 7yo Lab Mollie on meds for her back, I called them, alarmed at the warning signs of possible fatal side effects I was seeing. I returned to the hospital with my dog only to be told that her refusal to eat, vomiting, and basically pooping straight blood were nothing to be concerned about. They gave her 2 injections, assured me she would be better overnight and told me if she didn't eat in the morning, to bring her back up. The owner/vet was on duty. The vet tech/front desk girl told me as I was checking out: "I'm sorry you didn't get to see Dr. XXXXX, it's just been a really long day and he's burned out." After all of this, I proceeded to bring my dog home, sleep in the living room with her so I could watch her, and at 7:30 in the morning, while I was getting ready to take her back because she would not eat, she died. My husband demanded a meeting with Dr. XXXXX and he admitted that they "dropped the ball". He claimed that the vet tech gave him wrong info about her symptoms & told him that "Mrs. _____ is easily excitable about her pets". He went on to say that HE was also was at fault, because no matter how long of a day it was, he should have personally come into the room and spoken to us about her symptoms. He was so frustrated at the tech that he said "I just don't see how I can keep her". I absolutely 100% wholeheartedly hold Southridge Animal Hospital, the long-time Vet Tech & Dr. XXXXX to blame for me losing my "child", a Lab that I have had since she was 12 weeks old. I am crushed and do not know how long it's going to take to get past this pain. I never had biological children...this sweet, smart loving dog WAS MY BABY!! I highly suggest this message get shared so that no one else has to lose their dogs to Vet Techs that should not be seeing pets and Veterinarians who do not care enough about their patients (long-time patients at that) to come speak to someone about their sick and suffering pets so they can correctly diagnose them. I just don't want to see anyone else go through this.

Dr. Jones if the BEST!! We are dog lovers and have been using him for 12 years. We currently have 4 dogs that he has treated since they were all puppies. He treats them like they were his own dogs. In all the years we have gone to him, we have never had a complaint. He did have a receptionist that was a little rude at times, but I have not seen her in quite some time now. I recommend him to everyone. I have always found the prices reasonable.

not great, but not bad. Always seemed to overbook appointments and have usually had to wait a while. Pretty expensive but not the most. I'd say overall, this was a decent clinic for me while I was searching for (& have now found!) my long term vet.

First let me acknowledge (after having read the other reviews here) that this *is* my first review on this site; but this is a real review--I am a real consumer writing about my experience with this animal hospital. I have been going to Dr. Jones for ten years and will continue to go as long as I have pets that I love and that I want to be treated by a vet who really cares.

I can understand the frustrations of the other reviewers here. The woman at the front desk has been rude to me before. I have been rude to the woman at the front desk before. When your pet is sick, you aren't in the best mood and aren't necessarily ready to deal with a front desk person who was having a bad day or something. If you are searching for a veterinary experience that is flawless in all aspects of traditional customer service, granted, this hospital may not be the place for you. But then, in my 20 year experience with veterinarians (and really consumer businesses in general) you just aren't going to find that anywhere.

However, if you are looking for a vet who truely cares about your pets as much as you do, I could never sing enough praises of Dr. Kyle Jones. Hands down. If you want a vet who will listen to every symptom about your pet, no matter how seemingly minor, to assure an accurate diagnosis--this is the place for you. If you want a vet who will travel to your home to put down your terminally ill dog because he understands the trauma of losing a beloved pet sometimes is better handled in familiar surroundings--this is the place for you. If you are looking for a place where you can come in with one of your four dogs and the doctor remembers all of their names, medical histories, food sensitivities, and even personality quirks when he comes in to examine your dog for the most recent ailment--this is the place for you. If you would appreciate a veterinarian who would give you his personal cell phone number and calls your home in the evening to check in on your pet with a difficult to diagnose ailment--this is the place for you.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: if you are repelled by the possibility that your dog might have a splint on a little too long or that the woman at the front desk might be rude, just make your personal decisions accordingly. But for me and my four-legged family members, I will continue to choose their medical provider based on choosing a vet who is a genuine animal lover and will make sure that they are in good health. I will continue to choose Dr. Kyle.

Our dog contracted Parvo from this office. We had her for 2 weeks before we took her in for her first visit. She was healthy and doing well. She was given all her vaccines. Within a few days are dog became very ill and had to be taken back. She tested positive for Parvo. She did not have this virus before her visit to this clinic. We we're told they had several cases when we had come in for our dogs vaccines. I would think you would notify owners of a new unvaccinated animal either not to come in or sanitize your office better! Sad they even acknowledge they we're the cause of her illness. We have not been back since. Our dog is now 5 years old and very happy and healthy. Did you also know that the SPCA refused to spay my animal as well as several other clinics due to her having this virus!! They say it contaminates the surgical room due to the virus living in her system. So I would like to give you a great big THANK YOU for that!!

They are the best. We have been going there since Fall 2005. We have always found them compassionate and beyond competent. They go the extra mile and everyone there obviously love animals. I chose this office when I moved here because their website showed each person that works there with their pets. Their website was by far the most pet centered and I looked at a lot of them. One of my dogs has been with me for nearly 11 years since I found her living on the streets as a very ill adult. She may actually be 18 years old. Her extraordinary health is a result of this office. Sadly I had to euthanize another wonderful dog who had been dealing with chronic pain for a very long time. This office was so compassionate and long before I made this decision, they helped to extend his life and his quality of life. I have a third stray who required neurosurgery (a referral) as a result of a genetic condition prone to his breed. This office was so knowledgeable and so helpful. I cannot say enough about this practice. I have never worked there. I don't own stock in the company. I have lived in different parts of the country and as a result of moving I have met with a variety of vets. I have to say I trust and respect this office the most. 4/28/11

We have been taking our two dogs to this office for eight years and I've finally had enough. I've always liked Dr. Jones but his office staff and the condescending attitude they have toward pet owners is just too much. The lack of integrity of the office makes it not worth it. Today I called to see if I could get my dog in for an ear infection. The woman on the phone said, we close at 1 but if you can be here by 12:!5 we'll see her. I arrived with my two small children (whose lunch I interrupted for the rush) and my sick dog at 12:14. I waited as the woman at the desk finished up with the person ahead of me. She then asked who I was. When I told her she said "I think your vet just left." I said, "what?" She walked to the back then came back and said, yes, Dr. Jones left at 12:15. When I told her what I'd been told she said when she saw me it was 12:20. Apparently it did not matter that I'd been waiting for five minutes. If they couldn't fit me in that would be fine, I would understand that. But to let me rush, meet their criteria, and then to turn me and my sick dog away is just too much. I have sent friends and family to this office over the years because I liked Dr. Jones. None of them go to him because of the office. I am finally following their lead and leaving. And the earlier post about the drugs is true. And no, I'm not a disgruntled former employee as someone is trying to claim. I am a disgruntled long-time patient in search of a new vet.

I have several snakes and wouldn't trust anyone but Dr. Jones to work on them. He spent a lot of time getting my carpet python through a horrible case of pneumonia - one that should have killed him - (Dr. Jones called him his miracle snake) and he helped him through septicemia. He's helped nurse my rat snake with a horrid case of worms and has helped one ball through a GI issue with worms and will be worming 2 more tomorrow. He knows what he is doing!
I will say that the wait time is annoying sometimes, but with the number of animals he sees it is to be expected. I haven't seen the rude clerk in quite a while and my favorite clerk is Haley. The staff loves seeing any animal and takes the time to learn their names and any time I come in they always remember past problems and ask about them.
He has also seen some of my dogs and is absolutely wonderful with them :)
The office and exam rooms are kept very clean and I've been taken to the back to watch them administer a shot of antibiotics to my snake and the back rooms are just as clean.
I'd definitely recommend Dr. Jones and his staff to anyone!

We've had nothing but good experience with this vet. They've seen all three of our dogs and have always been very kind and helpful. Waiting rooms and exam rooms are clean and well kept. The vets are always willing to discuss various options for treatment and understand that not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend on the family dog.

Another reviewer mentioned that they won't release your prescriptions so you can get them filled elsewhere. This is true, and does annoy me, especially since the prices are so much higher at the vet. The front desk folks at Southridge told me that they've seen too many cases where the online pet pharmacies sold pills that were expired or would expire before you could use them all, or were counterfeit. I don't know how valid those complaints are but I do know that if you go to any of the online sites and print out what you would pay there (including shipping), they'll match the price. I haven't paid full price for heartworm or flea treatments in years.

They refused to let me order my dog's Heartgard medicine through 1-800-PetMeds.com, would not approve it. Funny enough, they were willing to sell me the exact same product through their office. Pure and simple, they just wanted the business. I don't like companies that try to inhibit free trade.

I have been going to this vet for years and never experienced the problems like the people below have. I had been to three other vets when my cat was dying and no one seemed to care until I came here. They took the time and effort to help him and forever I will be grateful. Since then I have taken 5 animals to them and all of them received the same care. I would not take them anywhere else... it's so hard to find a good vet for my cats since most vets only care about dogs. So these guys will take care of you definitely.

I would not take my Golden anywhere else! I recommend them to anyone. They just love my Golden Teddy and they are so helpful. He had to have Heartworm treatment and they have taken such good care of him and made sure that i always knew what was going on. If I ever have any questions I am able to call and get answers. Doctor Jones is always avaliable to talk.

It is very sad to see that someone has written that these comments are from staff that work at the clinic and to beware. I can truly say that you will not find a better vet in the Denton area!

Dr Jones and Dr Becky are great. HOWEVER the woman at the front desk named Jerri is so rude that I know of several people that will not visit Southridge because of her. She is just short of being a sociopath, without empathy. I have often wondered if Dr Jones knows how she treats people when he??s not around. She blocks his calls and offers her uneducated information on the phone and discourages appointments in emergencies. I know this for a fact because I have tried to get through to Dr Jones, and Jerri is definitely a roadblock. I have often watched as other staff in the office look at her with alarm. Regardless, Dr Jones is a good vet and I will continue to take my pets to him. I just wish that the gargoyle he has working the front desk was locked in a cage in the back instead. This woman is hurting his business.

I have had pets since I was 6 years old, 61 years ago. I have been to vets from New York to California, Texas to Wisconsin.

No one even comes close to Dr Jones. His caring attitude, willingness to discuss in depth situations, and wonderful treatment of every dog and cat he has seen, is hands down, the finest I have ever experienced. The office is clean, the staff is courteous, and there are not enough good things I could say about them Thank for being there for me and my friends.

My experience with Dr. Jones and his staff has been one of great respect and admiration. They are a group of individuals that work hard and truly care about each and every animal that walks, flies or crawls through their doors. Even though they have many clients they work their hardest to provide a warm and caring atmosphere for their patients, treating everyone like they truly are a part of the Southridge family. I highly recommend this outstanding team to anyone.

I have noticed on this particular business the reviews seem somewhat "rigged". If you look at who is making the "good" reviews they are people with very few reviews at all. I think their own employees are making these myself. So yes, heads up on these reviews. Somethings is definitely fishy here.

My dog had a small fracture in his leg. The vets first told me it would take 10 days for the splint to come off. After week 3 I took him back with the third splint to come off and it had been to tight and had killed his leg. The leg had to be removed from my dog because of the poor work they had done. The dog went through three of the doctors there instead of one who may have known my dogs needs better.

You only get once chance to make a good first impression and this place failed miserably. First of all the receptionist was very rude. Secondly I had to wait over an hour to get seen even though I had an appointment. Very, very expensive. I will look elsewhere before going here again. I read these reviews for the place and find them very hard to believe.

Secondly I had to wait over an hour to get seen even though I had an appointment. Very, very expensive. I will look elsewhere before going here again. I read these reviews for the place and find them very hard to believe.

Not only do they provide a very clean clinical area, (and I'm a nurse, who's very picky about that) There is absolutely no animal smell when you walk in, it's always clean. The allow you to look in the intensive care area and surgical areas, I found the clinical areas to be an excellent, clean, well cared for environment. I also appreciate they they have different waiting areas for different types of animals. The staff is wonderful, compassionate, and extremely supportive. When our dog was dying from Cancer, they helped us manage his pain, and when we finally had to put him to sleep, they let me hold him, gave me as much time as I needed to be with him, they even helped me cut a lock of his hair to take home. I find their pricing to be very reasonable. They have provided wonderful services for us, and I highly recommend them. And they do let you know when your pet is due for shots, which I appreciate

I have taken pets to Southridge Animal Hospital for 8 years. Dr. Jones and Dr. Hunsberger have treated my last 6 pets. All the doctors seem to be great vets. Hali and Ali are most helpful but another office worker is not so nice. My biggest complaint is that their computers continually say that my pets need vaccinations that they just receieved. I have to take my recipts in to show that they have already received a particular shot. Last month they tried to give my puppy two rabbies vacinations! The check out process can take forever especially when you have a 100 lb dog on a leash in a small room full of other dogs. I have waited up to 25 minutes just to pay.

I have no idea why somebody would trash Dr. J. He is one of the kindest vets I have ever met or had for my dog. How many docs do you know that will sit down on the floor and play with your dog while telling you what is going on with your pet? I think the world of Dr. J and you can see how he truly loves animals. So, Mr. Trasher, your little ploy won't fly with those of us who see Dr. J for what he really is.Jannet H.

I have been going to Southridge for almost 10 years due to the great staff and doctors, and know alot of the staff personally, so I called the hospital up and asked about someone repeatedly trashing them on this site. Seems there was an employee that was fired after working there only a couple of months (because he wouldn't take orders from any females and was insubordinate to the doctors I was told), and he now uses this site to try to trash the Hospital. How pathetic is that? And how useful is this site if some vindictive ex-employee can lie and smear a business that I KNOW BETTER.

The excellent staff at Southridge are experienced in the care of our animals. They are professional people who trully care about the clients and their pets. The hospital is very clean and sterile for the safety of our pets. Dr. J and Dr. B. have performed many miracles in saving the lives of my own pack of dogs and the lives of sick or injured rescued dogs. Dr. J. has, on a number of occasions, met me at the hospital after hours when I had an emergency case with one of the dogs. Both Dr. J. and Dr. B. are dedicated and highly technical vets who are aggressive in treatments and preventatives. Dr. J. performs excellent orthopedic surgeries, and so much more. Many of his clients have come from other animal hospitals and remain loyal clients to Southridge. Southridge vet costs are competitive to other local animal clinics in the area. You won't be sorry you took your pet to Southridge. They are the best...in so many ways.

I went to two other hospitals and couldn't afford the surgery and treatment for my dog, then a friend at work recomended Southridge. They took care of him, it cost alot less than the other two hospitals had quoted me, and he is doing great now. Dr Jones and his staff were awesome.

When my dog broke her leg, Dr. Jones cut his vacation short to come back and operate on my dog! Dr. Jones saved her leg, and she is back in competative agility today because of Dr. Jones and his caring and knowledgeable staff. When my cat contracted cancer, Dr. McClannahan held my hand throughout the entire ordeal. She made sure I fully understood what was happening every step of the way. When the time came to put her to sleep, the Doctor met me at the clinic after hours and let me spend as much time as I needed to say goodbye. I have used Southridge for almost 7 years now and have never had a negative experience. My pets are very important to me and I wouldn't let just anyone care for them. I have complete faith and trust in the doctors and staff of Southridge Animal Hosptial. I highly recommend Southridge Animal Hospital to anyone looking for veterinary care for their animals.

Dr. J has kept my Rottweiler going way past his expected life _ 15 1/2 now.
Dr. J's hip surgery kept my Shepherd from being put down. That was 6 years ago and the dog is still healthy and active.
Dr. J called me back at 2 a.m. when my terrier became paralyzed from a herniated disk. Dr. J got him well, without surgery, and he's still going strong at age 12.
Many vets are closer to my home, but I drive from out of town so my pets can be cared for by the best vet ever.
Great staff. Great service. Highly recommend!
