My husband called Eagle transmission after he saw that they offered free towing and Free diagnostics. After describing to him over the phone that he had lost every gear but reverse, they told him that it could be a simple $400 repair, and that he might not need a new transmission. Several other businesses that he had called told him that it would be at least $900, so he went ahead and had Eagle pick the car up. After they had the car for a few days, they called and let us know that the computer diagnostics had found nothing, so they were going to have to remove the transmission. This is a $489 fee - just too diagnose the problem, so much for free diagnostics! It is pretty obvious to me that there is something wrong inside the transmission if you have no gears, but reverse. I authorized the $489 fee as it would apply to repairs and I didn't want to go through the expense or hassle of towing it to another shop. They were supposed to call me back in a day or two to let me know what was wrong with the car. After two days of not hearing from Eagle, I called them to find out that there was a delay in getting the transmission out as they had broken some of the screws trying to get it out and were having to let a solvent loosen the other screws. A couple more days later, they called and told me (SURPRISE!) that I needed to replace several portions of the transmission to the tune of $1789, or if I really cared about my car, I would go for the deluxe package at $1986. The technician sounded like a telemarketer, and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I called a few other transmission places with an itemized list of what Eagle was going to repair to compare prices. Each place I called was several hundred dollars less than Eagle. When I called Eagle, they told me they would box up the transmission and let me tow off the car, but I needed to pay $600 for the towing and diagnostic fee. Even with that, I was still going to pay less for the repairs than what Eagle was charging. When I explained that to the Eagle technician, he started telling me that the other guys were just going to rip me off and that I needed to get it in writing. He started asking me how much I thought it would cost for a torque converter and the labor to install that and why I thought I was being overcharged. Let me just say if I knew that, and how to do it - I would have fixed my own transmission! He told me they could absolutely not go down on price. Once I called him and told him the tow truck was on the way, they beat the other shops price by $50. I was tempted to tow it off anyway, but was afraid that once the car got there it would be missing pieces. We got the car back over a week later. As far as the work goes, the car is running great. I will not take a car back there however as they did not call to report status as they said they would, and it is very much a high pressure sales environment.
