I love to do my book shopping here. Besides getting good books in great shape for a great price, I can get hard to find books as well. You have to do some digging sometimes, but it is like a treasure hunt.

This book store is great!!! Row after row of books...at great prices. They mostly specialize in used books, but they do carry some new titles as well. They have a section for used movies, and music. They carry a good childrens selection of books...as well as educational materials. They carry some random text books as well. One could spend hours just wandering the isles looking through all the titles for the perfect book.

Half Price Books is a lousy place to sell to, but almost always a great deal to buy from and I've made some great finds there. It can be hard to find your way around, as the sections aren't always clearly labeled.

PROS: You never know when you'll find a treasure!
CONS: Don't sell here, they'll rip you off.

Half Priced Books is an excellent place to go pick out some reading material. They have a wide selection of all books and the prices are great! The stores have a nice feel to them and the staff is great.

These guys have the best selection (at any one location, let alone taking into account their other outlets). Prices are set well & where else can you get to walk out with both used CDs & used books at such great prices. Staff is also friendly & fairly knowledgeable.

People think eBay has everything you need, and yes they are correct. The only problem with eBay is people have cheap prices but freakin expensive shipping prices that are ridiculous. Half Price books is one of my favorite stores that have novels for REALLY cheap. I got my textbooks about 1/6 the price of the used price at my college book store! $7.38 for an economics textbook?! Can't beat that.

My brother and I were laughing the other day about Half Price. He said "it's my favorite book store, and their prices are like-- HALF PRICE!" stupid joke aside, half price is a really good place to find quality books for a least half price.

Different locations have different stock, and the Guadaloupe location benefits from being near the University of Texas-- this means they get more technical books from the engineering majors, and more tarot cards from the psychology majors. Poor students of all types selling books for cash means an ecletic and quality selection.

If you like books but you hate paying full price this is a great store. Unlike a lot of used books stores I have been in, Half Price Books has a great selection that is easy to look through. I almost always find the book that I want, and when I don't I usually find something else I was looking for. Plus, since it is right down the street from the University, it is a great place for students on a budget.

PROS: Nice selection, friendly staff, well organized store
CONS:

I've dropped more cash at Half Price Books over the 10+ years that I've been in Austin than I have anywhere else in this town (save it's many java joints). The title is self-explanatory; if you don't mind your books previously perused, are still trying to catch up on last year's bestsellers, or really just want to pick up a cheap paperback copy of that classic you really should have read back in high school, then HPB is the place for you. I've entertained many an interest there and developed a whole lot more, just wandering the aisles for hours on end. It's a great way to beat the heat, and you just might find something surprising.

PROS: Good books, great prices
CONS: Not exactly up-to-the-minute inventory...

Definitely the place to go for cheap books. The selection varies though, so if you have to go often to check for the book that you want. There are few locations, so it's a bit of a drive if you don't already live near one.

PROS: Cheap, Friendly, Reliable
CONS: Location

I like half price books because I can buy textbooks for very good prices. Check out their clearance section. They always have some good books. But you have to find them. I also like their software section and help books. Only thing I hate is their buying quotes. Like many other, I went one time with tons of popular magazines in excellent condition but they offer me only $3. That was pretty outrageous.

PROS: Great place to find book bargains
CONS: there is no catalog system so you have to search everything

Half-Price Books has locations around Texas, including several in Austin. Their stores are usually nice places to just come into and browse. They often have some good finds.
The drawback is that they don't pay even half-way decent prices for the books they buy from you. You can walk in there with a huge stack of books and walk out with less than $5. So as a buyer I'm very happy with the store, but for those looking to sell their old books it leaves much to be desired

PROS: decent selection, some good finds
CONS: pay a pittance for books they buy

They recently moved to an old Grocery Store location. Imagine how big it is! It is great! Very good lighting and much bigger aisles to stand and search for the books you want. No more cramped aisles! Pretty good selection too. And great discounts once in a while.. everything 20% off and tent sales $1 a book!

PROS: Great Store.
CONS: Still limited selection and buy backs are very cheap.
