My cat developed some bumps on her skin when she was 9 years old. I would ask my former vet about them, and she never had an answer, so I went looking for a "cat doctor". Right away, Dr. Percival knew what they were, explained what was going on and suggested a plan of attack. Luckily, they are not harmful because I found Dr. Percival when the cat was 13...4 years of not knowing is ridiculous.
2 years later, my poor old girl developed a frightening bump in one of her mammory glands. After draining it twice, we decided to remove the gland and some of her worst bumps as described above. 85% of cats with swollen glands end up with cancer and die in 6 months. My cat, thanks to my doctor, had precancerous cells removed, so the issue was caught before full fledged cancer arrived. Dr. Percival informed me that she has done this surgery many times, and my cat is the only one that had a clean bill of health afterwards.
My father jokinging calls my girl the million dollar cat, but if you have had a cat since you were 8, you would demand the best care available for your ancient one. She is about to turn 19, but the preventative care at the Cat Hospital has prolonged her life by 4 years thus far. And she is still active, whines when she wants something, sleeps on a heating pad, and is generally totally spoilt.
