We heard about Dos Panchas when we attended the Dallas Farmers Market Hoedown last week and wanted to try it. We love mexican food and particularly authentic, but Dos Panchas was a huge dissapointment.
The good things were the hot sauce, which was yummy although not spicy and the bean soup which was excellent. The problem was that we had to ask for it, even though it's complimentary.
The service was poor from the start and we didn't get our drinks for nearly 10 minutes after being seated, then no one ever came back to take our order so we had to flag someone down. There were only 3 other tables that had customers in the whole restaurant, so we didn't expect to be neglected. The bottom line is that there were 3 waitresses for 4 tables and they couldn't get the job done. My husband ordered the Carnitas which should be tender, juicy shredded pork served with cilantro and onions. Instead he received big chunks of pork that were dry, chewy and served with lettuce and cheddar cheese. I ordered the Enchiladas Poblana which is chicken enchiladas with Mole sauce. The shredded chicken inside was very good, but the sauce was bland and one of worst moles I've had in town. Kudos for the refried beans, but the rice was just so-so. After our dissapointing meal my husband asked for a refill on his soda and she brought a refill and then told us she charged him for another drink. Now I know that when you are served soda in a can you can expect to be charged for each can, but when it's a fountain drink you expect free refills. Nope, not at Dos Panchas. I beg you not to try this restaurant unless you have very low expectations and don't mind poor service. We will never go back. I do recommend Cuquitas for the best Chilaquiles in town and Dos Banderas for their great Fajtas Poblana and the #16.
PROS: Good beans and bean soup, if you can get it.
CONS: Lousy service, no refills on drinks, overcooked pork
