I went in for a checkup and they actually DAMAGED my front teeth while cleaning them. Just be warned, this is one of those places you always hear about that will FIND things to do to your teeth just to collect as big a bill from your insurance company as they can, and it seems they'll go to any length to do it.

Update: Do not GO HERE ! I got sick after my surgery, and cancelled my appointment while trying to get well.

I had an obstruction and my primary care doctor sent the information over .

Gerogetown office requires that I call daily to get an appointment wven though I need a crown done and yesterday the office manager called at three and said there were three hours open the next day, I called the next morning and I could not get in.

I had three fillings done and one of them is not even cutting my tongue and I can not get in to get it fixed even though it is the doctors fault.

I called the Round Rock office since I had been a patient for TEN YEARS and got right in.

DO NOT GO TO THE GEORGE TOWN OFFICE, THEY
COULD Care less about you.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED SO POORLY !

I asked the office manager what should I do and she had no answer, i asked if Dr. Abbott had a boss and he had not taken time to review the problem and I had taken my friend there that was mentally disabled and she had seen him and her filling fell OUT three days after insertion.

I am so sorry I every went to this office. I only did so to take my friend. I am going back to the Round ROck Office where at least they do not chastise you and DO understand your circumstances. POOR SERVICE>

I went to the Carus dental in Georgetown and got right in when the Round Rock location could not accommodate my hours.

Dr. Abbott is great but the insurance guy (Shaun) had me as not being eligible for some exams as I had not had my eligibility long enough. (I have had it for 12 years)

I asked him to call and he said that is what the computer said so I called on my cell phone right in front of them and they said, Yes I had coverage and that made him made.

I told him "Do you understand what errors you could cost someone by not knowing the eligibility"

He had put the date of my service in eligibility date and
made me be ineligible.

I also went home and reviewed my policy and it stated that I was cover 80 per cent for a crown instead of the 50 percent because my tooth was cracked.

So they STILL made a mistake.

Shaun kept trying to tell me my limit and I told him, Can't you just apologize that you made a mistake and let's go on, because when you don't you will continue to make mistakes thinking you did nothing wrong.

I am getting a second opinion and my bill did not add up to what they said.

Watch out for the billing and insurance filing BJ

Dr. Neal removed all of my husband's teeth and he had no repercussions from it at all and is almost ready for his dentures. I also had a thorough cleaning there and the staff are wonderful so I referred my daughter to them as well and she loved them too.

After going to Rose Dental due to our old insurance and receiving a estimate on $17,000 (YES, enough to buy a car!) Being told we needed deep cleanings to the tune of $80/quadrant and paying $120 TWICE for my sons front tooth to be bonded, we switched insurance and got into Carus(formerly Long Horn) Good think, NYE my front tooth broke in 1/2! I called Carus the day we switched carriers on Jan1, never having been a patient before. Dr Tran got me in immediately AND fixed a beautiful temporary the same day! It was designed to last the month until my permanent crown came. Me, I think it looks great and fail to go get my permanent put on. Fast forward 8 months, said tooth flies across the room. Again I call Dr Tran, she gets me in immediately and takes care of beautifully. Also same kid had his front tooth bonded by Dr Tran and it was as it should have been the last 2 go around 100% covered! It is still in place a year later. Hubby and I have terrible teeth and have had tons of work there NOT $17,000 though! We've found ALL staff to be caring, knowledgeable and efficient. If they stop taking our insurance we will change carriers to stay.WE LOVE CARUS DENTAL and Dr Tran!

Not a good deal!
I have no dental insurance so I am self pay. Thinking that they were reasonable in rates I went there.
I found that I could not afford what they suggested so I went to get a second opinion from a individual dentist, not a chain. I would not suggest going to Carus if you value your teeth or money.
I had the left side of my teeth, upper and lower, cleaned by Carus Dental, and a week later I went to my new dentist. His x-rays showed that Carus did not get all the tartar off my teeth, actually there was alot left there, so much that I had to have the left side redone. I saved a thousand dollars in the meanwhile.
The dentist at Carus said that I need some unneccesary work done, making my bill expensive and unaffordable.

New in town and needing some dental attention I was referred by my son to Dr. James Evans at Carus dental. The office staff, dental hygienist, and dentist were extremely caring. I was seen three times and have never had to wait more than a few minutes. Dr. Evans explains everything very carefully and is extremely patient. I would certainly recommend this dental practice to family and friends. Marge Lippman

We have been trying to get Longhorn to correctly submit the billing information to our insurance agent. After three attempts the information is still incorrect, they are listing childrens teeth instead of the quadrants they should be listing. Will not go back.

I too have used this Westlake location for several years, and have always been overcharged. I receive the statement of benefits from my insurance, and the amount owed to provider is always less than what I paid. This last time (June 08) I was overcharged $17. I love the dentist I use and the hygenist, but come on. How long would it take to double-check and make sure you are charging patients the correct co-pay?

I went to the Carus Dental on Research Blvd and the staff was wonderful! They are prompt and so friendly! My dentist is Cathy Tran and she's the best dentist I've ever met. She's so understanding and actually gives me options and lets me make my own choices. I've been going there quite a while and they recently changed there name because they have practices in other cities where Longhorn wasn't the best name- like Houston- they're Aggies! But since they recently changed there computer system there quotes have been exactly right.I'd recommend Dr Tran to anyone

Ratings_icons Not so sure about services...

I have used Longhorn Dental located in Westlake for about two years. Upon reading the other reviews posted, I too, have had all of the bad experiences everyone else has had. Payments were very difficult and muddy with this office. You have to really stay on top of your insurance information versus what Longhorn says you owe. No one has the amount of time required to ensure you aren't getting ripped off. In addition, over the years I've been going to this dentist, I have had to unknowingly block 2-3 hours out of my workday due to the rediculous wait time during appointments.

In addition, I had a bottom molar filling replaced from the old mercury to the newer composite. Just about a month after Longhorn replaced the filling, I developed an infection. I went back in to have a root canal on the same tooth. Fast forward a year later, I have had several sensitivities and issues with this same tooth. I decided to go see a different dentist. They told me that I have an abscess at the root of the tooth--meaning that there was trapped bacteria still at the root. They sent me onto a specialist to get the root canal re-treated.

I have spent thousands of dollars on this tooth and have gone through so much pain. I see ironically, Longhorn Dental just changed namesto Carus Dental. Makes you wonder. If any lawsuits were ever thrown against Longhorn Dental, I'd like to know.

Ratings_icons Inept Staff But Great Doctor

San Marcos Longhorn Dental first claimed we were covered, then asked us for a big payment after the service was performed. The staff was rude and inept, and while I was speaking to staff on the phone she interrupted me and then hung up on me. I would not recommend Longhorn Dental in San Marcos to anyone.

For a life time I have had gaped teeth. Got them some what fixed enough to start wearing a retainer for almost 10years. Finally had enough doe to do something permanent. Enters Longhorn. I needed two bridges one was set and hasn't been out in the year I've had it. The other falls out when I play with my three year old, when I chew gum, cereal, pizza or even on occasion when I sneeze hard! I'm not a model but I make a living off of my smile. I don't have time all the time to go in so I've resorted to less medical methods like placing in myself and even using crazy glue! The one good thing is my guy Dr. Evans is a cool guy they get me in a set it right away every time I call, and I never waited long but I am sooo tired of this darn thing falling out and now its even making my other teeth crooked.

This is the first time I have to spend countless hours (yes, hours) on a phone helping a dental office to get the insurance payment. The whole ordeal has been going for almost a year and it is the same story again and again: we get a bill, I call Longhorn Dental only to learn that they haven't received anything from my insurance company, I call the insurance and find out that LD has not submitted something, I call LD and tell them that, LD people say 'Ah, okay', and then it repeats itself in a month or so... For God's sake, how come all the other offices we've used have been able to work with our insurance without any help from our side??? I would never ever recommend this office to anybody, friend or foe.

Ratings_icons Horrible service ...and they are crook

john s.

Looks like whole each and every one of their office is horrible. I have been reading the review at other office and was not surprised that all offices of this 'dental association' are as bad, if not worst.
My experience was at 13729 Research Blvd, Austin - (512) 258-9394. It's one of the worst dental office I have ever visited. First of all they will make you wait forever and they have no concern about the patient but just money. Before my dental service, I have given my co-payment information and I agreed to it. Couple of weeks later, I have a bill for $400, stating that my insurance only pays so and so. I was so furious about it, if I had know that my bill will be so high I would have gone to other office. They did contact insurance before the service and now they are giving me all sort of stories. I talked to another friend of mine and guess what, he had similar experience at this office. So in my opinion these guys are crook, they know they if they give high estimate for the service then patient may talk/walk to other dental office. Save pain and $$, go to other dental office.

I am really disappointed with my treatment at Longhorn Dental. My dentist made a crown that did not fit my tooth properly and it kept falling out. Staff is not friendly or copperative at all. I was told that I would need a root canal and got a second opinion regarding this and was told that I didn't need a root canal and that my crown was too small and that was why it kept falling out. This has been a huge inconvenience for me and a painful one as well. SIgh.

Ratings_icons Longhorn Dental and Dr Kerry Neal DECEIVERS

I needed a partial prosthetic. I went to see Dr. Neal and he explained my options and prices. I opted for a mid-expensive piece in the $1400.00 Range versus the lower priced $400.00 Flipper. When it came back it did not fit, the color was off and the teeth were fused together looking like one tooth. I explained I did not like it and it looked terrible and he agreed. He advised he would have it remade. When I came back for the new piece he had replaced the piece with an inexpensive Flipper (400.00 value). This piece met my needs but was much less expensive. Yet they still demanded Full payment. It was a classic case of BAIT AND SWITCH. I currently have reported them to the Insurance Fraud department. They are still demanding another 170.00 on this account after they have already received over $1500.00 for a $400.00 Piece. DO NOT USE LONGHORN DENTAL!!!!!!

Ratings_icons Horrible!!

A W.

My husband and I went to our 10:30am appointments this morning. We arrived at 10:15am as they suggested to complete our new patient paperwork. At 11:15am we were still sitting in the waiting room. 45 minutes after our scheduled appointments, my husband went up to ask how much longer it would be and was told 15 more minutes. At that point my husband and I decided to leave without seeing a doctor. I felt very disrespected and angry. I will never go back.

PROS: none
CONS: Very Disrespectful!!!

Several years ago, I visited Longhorn Dental in Austin due to a toothache. It may have been a facility on Guadeloupe at the time. I was ushered into a dental chair which was one of more than 10 located in the same room - all in a row. I could see the other patients and dentists. Reminded me of a barbershop. A very old barbershop.

While waiting for xrays to be developed, I overheard all the other patients being advised that they required crowns. I thought this was unusual, to say the least.

The dentist returned with my xrays and advised me that I needed to have a crown, and that it would cost me $800 or so. He said that there was an unusual "something" below the gumline that had to be dealt with by using a crown.

I decided to leave, rather than agree to the work. A day or 2 later, the small piece of hamburger gristle worked it's way out from between my gum and tooth! I was fine. And I didn't even need a crown... how about that???

Thank goodness I refused to believe Longhorn Dental and their money-grubbing assembly line of price gouging incompetent dentists!

PROS: None to speak of.
CONS: Yes, they were/are cons. Stay away!

I recently had a minor tootache and my insurance referred me to Longhorn Dental. It didn't take very long to get an appointment and they were very courteous over the phone. Now I do not know about you but I do not like going to the dentist. But needed to go because I was also developing headaches. When there the office staff welcomed and took care of all the insurance stuff. The waiting room and office was nice and clean, and the wait was not long. They made be feel comfortable and I was thrilled to find out I did not need my tooth to be extracted. Just had an infection and was treated. The prices were resonable and I would recommend them to family or friends. I would go back for any dental emergency.

I had to get my tooth fixed after getting it chipped when playing basketball and just to smooth the tooth out cost me 320 dollars which is ridiculous. Yes it looks better than when it was chipped, but my wallet looked way worse. The customer service is okay even though the wait was longer than I expected. I would recommend other places.

I have a favorite dentist at longhorn dental off of bee caves. His name is Don and he is the greatest. I have had alot of rude dentists and this one is so friendly. Not only that but this place is a great facility to go to. Fairly new and very clean. I had to have a moler pulled recently and this dentist pulled it for me.

I found Longhorn Dental after my insurance co changed. I was asking around, and was referred to Longhorn Dental in Round Rock. The staff was very nice, and the receptionist made sure my insurance was correct and that all of the correct codes were being used so that I wouldn't have any unexpected charges after I left. The hygenist was ver quick, relatively painless, and gave me tons of samples of toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss when I left. Great place!
