In Short
On nice days, the patio--complete with flourishing vegetation and whispering palms--is ideal. Inside, take a seat on leather couches at the bar for a margarita or at tables located on multiple levels. Menu specialties include pozole soup, tacos al pastor, tres leches cake and other traditional Mexican dishes. Breakfast is popular on Saturday mornings--try the chilaquiles or carne machaca for a treat.

Key Points

  • Lush patio and fountains
  • Hacienda inspired architecture
  • Several private rooms

Great Drinks,Good Food, POOR SERVICE

by ro 2.

As much as we use to enjoy going there we sadly do not anymore. No matter how good the food and drinks may be they cannot stand up to poor service. We hoped it would get better alas it did not.

Absolutley Fabulous Margs!

by Casey G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,275

I advise to begin with a house margarita, which includes the ideal amount of lime and salt- key ingredients if you ask me. I usually stick with the fajitas because I can be picky about meat to vegetable ratio.

Another huge plus is that they are very open to large parties. I held a surprise birthday party for a friend and they set us up in a private room, it was excellent!

An Improvement

by Reginald Van Strosburg

Imagine trying to operate a good restaurant ........while serving some of the pompous "goofs" that live in Alamo Heights. Well they are pulling it off.

I just can't imagine selecting another Mexican Restaurant......unless it were Los Barrios Hacienda.

Set well off Broadway....nice outdoor spaces....attentive staff...........your hard earned money is well spent here.

Try to ignore the Alamo Heights Goofballs.....they live nearby.....and probably walked. The state legislature is considering establishing a bounty on them......maybe next year.

Pros: Great Ambience

Cons: Stiff Chairs........replaced.....Better Now

Not that Great!!

by wineperson

Average at best. Alamo Heights need to demand more from their Restaurants. Slow service and over priced food.

Cons: Parking, Service Food

Great ambience & service, pretty good food!

by maryjatkinson

My husband and I ate here for lunch after the San Antonio marathon, and especially loved the outdoor patio. Lots of nice landscaping and fountains, and the weather was great! On a side note, people were letting their kids play in the fountain and run around, which was relatively annoying, so I wish the restaurant manager had said something to them, but I don't know how well that would have gone over. (One of the kids accidentally threw a coin toward the fountain that ended up hitting a baby in the face!!!) Anyway, our server was great -- very personable and attentive, even brought over an extra bowl of queso on the house (which was delicious, by the way!). The enchiladas and tamales were also quite good, although not the best Mexican I've ever had. Overall, we loved the ambience and service, and the food was pretty good, too!

Pros: Ambience (great patio!), service, & food.

Cons: Children playing recklessly around dining tables.

Pros: Excellent food and diversified menu. Excellent service. Ample parking.

Cons: May be crowded during mealtimes due to its enormous popularity.

Nice Atmosphere

by Sngo1983

What a disappointment... I read all the reviews and decided to visit this restaurant. There is a nice ambiance to the restaurant, the margaritas are pretty good but other than that it wasnt that great. I think this place would be good just for happy hour or drinks. The food is very bland and it definately is not authentic mexican food. Someone had a review that said to go here instead of Mi Tierra!!! They must be crazy... :) Don't waste your time here unless you like bland food...

Pros: Ambience, Free Valet

Cons: Bland Food, OK Service, Over priced for the quality of food

Great, elegant place to have a romantic dinner!

by Maxandi

This is one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants in San Antonio. It has delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and great margaritas. It isn't your typical mexican taco place. I really enjoy dining here.

Pros: everything is good here

Cons: sometimes there's a long wait, again the good places are usually this full.

Great, Great, Great

by jl0908

My husband and I took an out of town guest to Paloma Blanca after another couple reccommended it. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by the hostess and shown to our table. Our waiter was new and a bit unsure of himself; he was unable to find a wine list or answer questions about the menu. However, his difficiencies were overwhelmed by the wonderful food. Everything we ordered was superub. The margaritas were fantastic. The food was very tasty and portions were generous. The atmosphere is very relaxing, cool, crisp and calming. I would definitely reccomend Paloma Blanca to my friends and family.

Pros: Margaritas

Cons: unknowledgble server

Great Upscale Mexican Food

by vixeneyz

This place was wonderful when my fiance and his dad all went together. I have never been to an upscale Mexican Restaurant, but this one takes the cake as far as service, presentation, and ambience it offers. I highly recommend this restaurant.

great place to go for lunch

by turbodiesel

We normally go for lunch around 11 when it opens. After 12 you can expect to wait. We love ordering the Enchillades Verdes and the Chicken soup. Their prices are great for lunch and to take your business affiliates. The food is very fresh and you can expect to get your enchillades filled with chicken.

Pros: artsy, romantic, peaceful

Cons: better make reservations if you come during peek hours

Very upscale, excellent healthy food, special gluten free menu, very friendly, and sometimes croweded.

by yogannie

Paloma Blanca is a good place to take friends from San Antonio, or from other cities, even from other countries! Everyone will enjoy the freshly prepared food, the attention to detail, and celiacs will feel safe ordering from their own extensive menu. Almost all the soups are gluten free and very good. Just like mom would make, if you could get her to cook! Dine indoors, or on the patio among the fountains and lush tropical flowers. Try the chile relleno stuffed with shrimp, or vegetarian. When it comes to margaritas, try the "Heights", the "09'er", or the "Frida".

Pros: Easy to find, easy to park, easy to pick up from the take-out area

Cons: sometmes a wait, if you are gluten free, be sure which chips and salsas are yours.

Best Tres Leches ever!!

by food_fan1

I went with a friend and her parents and it was amazing!! The couches when you walk in are a wonderful place to just sit with a friend over a margarita! We put our name down, sat on a couch and in less then 2 minutes had drinks in our hands! Dinner was great, and dessert, the tres leches was probably the best in San Antonio!! Definitly recommended

Shrimp Enchiladas?

by sktrgrg

What's the big deal about shrimp enchiladas? I lived in Mexico for 32 years and never heard of such a thing. Camarrones, Si; Tortillas, Si; pero, Shrimp Enchiladas...gimme a break!
By the way, the food is excellent and the variety of salsas is to die for. The wait staff is efficient and friendly.
