An interactive space for the exploration of science and the history of Austin. A pleasure for both child and adult. There are areas devoted to toddlers as well as dramatic play spaces for older children. Pre-teen and teens can find the ever changing science exhibits entertaining. There's also the chance to rock on the Austin City Limits stage. The museum shop is full of educational toys and games and is worth the trip on its own. Free trolley service dowtown and paid parking around the corner. Museum offers reciprocity with Brooklyn Children's Museum, among others.

This is a a great place to take your children b/c they are always changing some of their exhibits so the children will always see something new when they go. The parties are a lot of fun too. Parking is horrible, but that's downtown Austin for you. The children have a great time and the place is kept very clean. My son's favorite part was the train.
PROS: Wonderful things to do
CONS: Parking

The Austin Children's Museum is a good place for the younger ones to explore, early in the morning when they offer the baby bloomers program. During the day, the museum is really load and filled with kids from daycares and schools. They are very hands on, and the exhibits allow children to explore on their own, and have some help by the museum staff if they need it. It is a good place to spend a hot summer day with the grandkids too.

I think the Austin Childrens Museum is a wonderful place to take kids especially the younger ones. The Baby Bloomers program is a great idea where the museum is only open on Mondays for ages 3 and under. This enables the little ones to learn and explore without worrying about older kids taking over the areas. The admissions do add up fast, so it might be wise to invest in a membership should you decide to make the Austin Childrens Museum a regular family activity.
