Not really impressed with the food. Service was great! Mediterranean salad that I had, had no taste and it wasn?t cleaned properly. I didn?t finish it. On the other hand??creme brulee was out of this world!

I find everytime I go somewhere new, I am always asking myself, would I wish I had gone to La Griglia instead? It's rare that I pick some place else over La Griglia. I Love the bread basket, all the entrees, and the dessert cart is to die for. Sometimes, I'll just have a salad for dinner, but even just a salad is well-prepared and tasty. We have eaten here about four times a year for the past ten years, and I have never been disappointed.

Here is a list why it's a treat to take mom to La Griglia which has been an original neighborhood favorite even though Landry's bought them out a few years ago--
(1) The tentacle-like Italian lamps above the bar; (2) the glass mosaic tiles, (3) the Italian lessons in the restrooms, (4) the dining mural of sea monster patrons, (5) the assortment of fresh breads, (6) the neighborhood, (7) the quiet patio on the side, (8) adorable manager Brandon likes to chat with moms, (9) patrons dress up, (10) mom's cooking is not as good as La Griglia's...she could never recreate the white marscapone cake with strawberries.

this is our family's birthday dinner place to go. everytime ive been there, its been a great experience.

this past time, we went was my birthday in spring 09. we were just floored by the delicious bread and oven roasted pizza hot off the oven that they served us complimentarily before we ordered.

yes, i have to agree with other reviewers, even on a weekday after 8pm when the restaurant had just a few tables being served, it did take a while to get our waiter to give us a menu.... but we were not in any hurry so we didnt mind.

after dinner, they had this absolutely delicious homemade italian cookies and biscotti (complimentary as well). we ordered a delicious dessert, while most restaurants do not charge for a birthday dessert they did here, but no big deal.

I cannot wait to go there again. everything we ordered was delicious, and im extremely picky about my pastas. We had Penne la Griglia & Paglia e Fieno and a big salad. Mmmmmm....

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I do not know if they got a new cook or what. But the food is no longer good. They recently changed the menu and i asked for something off of the old menu and he said absolutely no problem. When we got our food, it was absolutely nothing like what it used to be. It was quite disgusting and the fish were so dry. Other people at our table said their food was cold and just okay. The waiters took awhile to come to our table. We probably didnt order our food until an hour after sitting there. Like I said, this used to be a favorite of mine. I dont know that I will go there again because I was so disappointed in the food that I received after expecting something that I loved.

Our group of 8 people made a reservation for 7:30PM tonight(Saturday night) and arrived on time. We were told by the hostess that our table would be ready in 10 minutes. THIRTY minutes later, we were still not seated. It took us 3 times of going up to the desk to get seated. Then, it just got worse. We didn't get our menus until 10-20 minutes after we were seated. The WATERBOY brought us our bread basket. We waited 45 minutes just for an appetizer and one soup to come out, and we got our food 90 minutes after we sat down - only because we complained as a table several times and asked for the manager twice. Our waiter never came by to even ask how we were doing. Two tables around us ate an ENTIRE meal after being seated before us before we even got our food. The only waitstaff that checked on us all night was the waterboy - he kept our glasses full all night. To top it off, it only took the waiter TEN minutes to get us our check and clear our table after keeping us waiting all night. He never came to apologize. The only concession the manager made was giving us 4 slices of dessert(for EIGHT PEOPLE) to make up for our NINETY minute wait.

This was our first visit to La Griglia, and definitely our last. Save yourself the trouble of spending time and money for bad service and average food.

Don't read the reviews prior to 2007 because it was under different ownership then. Its now a clone of the Landry's chain and has come under the corporate boring sameness of all Tillman Fertitta's restaurants. I still like the bar however for its people watching and martinis. The last time we were there I was in the bar around 5 and asked for some bar snacks. I was informed the kitchen wasn't open til 5:30 so paid up and left! I would pass on eating in the dining room and stick to drinking the bar. Try Tony Mandola's Gulfcoast Kitchen down the street.

This is a nice upscale restaurant that is good for lunch, dinner or a special event. Just make sure that when you order the crab cakes you actually get more than one!!!

La Griglia is my restaurant of choice for lunch or dinner at any time. The General Manager, John Smaistrla, is usually around greeting guests and making sure everything is prepared well and delivered to the tables as ordered. If you don't see something on the menu, ask for it and chances are that it will be made exactly as you described. This is especially helpful for patrons who have special needs when ordering food. The wait staff is usually knowledgable and pleasant, but on rare occasions when there is a problem, it's usually because the place is so busy.

I also recommend La Griglia's party room for groups of 20 or more people. The private room is great for birthdays, board meetings or anything else where people want to mingle and have room for tables as well.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is bright and cheerful, but it's fun to eat outdoors on the patios on those few days in Houston when outdoor dining is possible.

I recommend La Griglia for a business lunch or dinner, or whenever with a date, spouse or SO. The wine selection is good, the bar is hopping and the service is ordinarily very good. One caution regarding desserts: while the baked Alaska is to die for, call ahead of time to order it or expect to be disappointed.

I was amazed by the lack of concern they showed. Five of us dined there a couple weeks ago. Three of us ordered the special which was described to us. One who had a shellfish allergy double checked with the waiter to see if it had shellfish, he said no. Our meal arrived we started eating only to discover that the special was loaded with SHRIMP. We called the waiter back, he said sorry, they hadn't put shrimp in the description given to waiters and said he would bring a new dish. Minutes later the dinner returned. IT WAS THE SAME PIECE OF FISH that he had just pulled the shrimp off. We knew this because the fish had already been cut into. We called him back, asked if he realized how severe shellfish allergies were. He said sorry again and what else did she want for dinner. She was finally able to get a meal that would not put her in the hospital but by that time the rest of us had finished our meals. The waiter offered a free dessert for her trouble. The check arrived and we were charged the full amount minus a dessert. We dine out a lot and can forgive a lot. This was just too much. The complete careless disregard for something as serious as a shellfish allergy, the obvious insincere apology for continually bringing the wrong dinner and then the lack of any attempt to compensate for all the trouble. My friend later called the corporate office to file a complaint. They apparently passed on her phone number to the waiter who was responsible for the problems, who then called her. Clearly the entrire organization is out of their minds. I will not be surprised to see legal repercussions against this company in the future if this is the way they treat their customers.

We explained in detail about a food allergy a member of our party had, and how severe it was. The waiter told us how he understood and actually discussed how important it was. We placed our orders and after we had started to eat we realized the dish was loaded with it. It was a terrible situation for us, and they treated the problem with a total lack of understanding and a quick dessert to move us on our way. Total poor management...they are into themselves and if you look for service............ dine elsewhere!

The place is so pretty. The service is the best and very attentive. You get a basket of assortive breads. The best is the one which is a lot like cheese pizza, they also constantly fill the basket. They are very good on selecting wine. The food was sooooo good. The salads are so fresh and different, very good. The entrees are awesome. The chicken with the goat cheese mash potatos rocks. Then they have an awesome dessert charts with over five desserts. Huge servings all round. Very very very good. The service I have to mention again, is soooo good. You have so many people waiting on you. If you want a fabulous dinner and feel like a princess you must go here.

I like this place although it feels "chain-ey." The food was great and the atmosphere fun and colorful. The service was fine and we had a nice little bottle of wine. The bar scene, where we started our evening, was a disaster, with desperate 40-something men and sun-bleached women trying their hardest to get someone- anyone- to go home with them that night. Kind of depressing, unless that's your scene. Ugh. Thank god I'm not single anymore!

In my opinion, La Griglia is one of the best places for a celebration!! Although if you're not ok with loud restaurants, this is not the place for you. The atmosphere is fun and funky with their wild tile mosaics, bright wall murals and very cool glass light fixtures. You'll keep getting your bread basket refilled with their awesome pizza bread sticks...they're so addicting! The service is unpredictable and depends on the crowd. We either have three people attending to us at one time or end up waiting a bit too long for food to be served. We have never been disappointed by the entrees and the dessert cart is very impressive. Also, if ordering coffee, be sure to ask for the biscotti, which is a great way to end a great meal.

PS - one of my husband's favorite dishes is the roasted boar chop and I love the Straw and Hay (Paglia e Fieno).

I started the night with a round of champagne, my girlfriend and i were celebrating valentines one day early. Shortly after I order a bottle of SHRIAZ, the waiter comes back and presents me a bottle of champange? After returning with my correct bottle, he breaks the cork(oh by the way we still have no, water or menus). So now another waiter comes back over with a new bottle of wine(what do you know he brings me a cab). Now I came in to this place with high expectations, and now im dieing to leave(I would have if it were any other night).

This was my first time at La Griglia.

We started with the snapper appetizer, which we both enjoyed. The waiter suggested the yellowtail tuna, so I ordered it, rare, and my wife ordered a lobster pasta dish. The tuna was OUTSTANDING. The flavor, a gingery balsalmic vinagrette taste, was perfect for a piece of tuna that was definitely sushi grade. The portion was large and the tomatoes and mushrooms were divine.

My wife's lobster pasta lacked presentation, but she said she liked it. Normally she'll mention a really good dish, so I'm thinking that it was just above average.

The bill was $68 for the two meals, appetizer and 2 drinks (sans tip - $80 with). I considered it a fair price.

I don't believe the tuna was a fluke, because the waiter was so gung-ho that it was the best item.

I recently visited La Griglia with my girlfriend for her birthday and the whole staff was extremely accomadating. i had asked them to do some extra special things for me that day and they did not dissapoint me at all. Everyone was extremely attentive they had set everything up as I had asked and my girlfriend shed tears of joy at how well she was treated. The food was amazing espcially the tiramisu, ( the best I've had so far,) I can't wait to take my mother an granmother for mother's day. I have a new favorite family restaurant.

Shrimp and Crab "Cheesecake" - If you like heavy green souse on a top of cheesy seafood mix shaped like a cake this one is for you.
Shrimp Bisque was too spicy and tastes like from the can. Grilled Scallops appetizer - this is two grilled jumbo scallops on a bed of polenta. Scallops were over cooked, dry and tasteless. Polenta was terrible and seems like was made day before and then heated in microwave. Grilled Squid - It is by far worth grilled squid we ever had! It was dry, tough to chew and my girlfriend actually asked me to cut her squid because it was so hard for a knife! Vegetables that came with it were saggy and tasteless.
Cream Brule was not so bad, mostly presentation. And all this for $67.72! I dont think we will be back in La Griglia for a long time.

It was by far the worst meal that I've had at a Houston restaurant ever. I ordered the Veal Paillard , it was over cooked and drenched in salt and pepper. The cook treated the veal like it was a rough cut of steak. The accompanying roasted potatoes I think were roasted the day before and left out to dry. The fried asparagus (yes fried) was undercooked and the coating was mushy. My dinner companion did not fare well either. Ordering one of the dinner specials that was described as, "snapper topped with lump crabmeat on a bed of spinach", arrived fried (yes fried snapper-actually deep fried not even pan fried) with the fins and bones. The coating was too thick and mushy as well, with a measly quarter size portion of spinach. And something that looked like a hush-puppy. Just not like La Griglia used to be!

Keep up the good work Brandon! Brandon Busch continues to lead one of the finest staffs in the city. Polished, friendly, attentive, and talented. (No, I am not his mother :) ) The food never fails to please. I appreciate the effort and I will continue to make this on of my most regular spots to dine, entertain, and recomend to friends.

...but, I think La Griglia (and all Tony's restaurants) is not worth a second visit. I've eaten there several times (at friends' suggestion) but recent visit was first in several years. Still the same: bad food; decent, not great service. I was there on a weeknight, seated promptly, wine list was good. Salads are mixed -- the best is the autumn salad with goat cheese, nuts, etc. The pastas are fair, but much better dishes can be found at MANY other restaurants that are far better. The worst appetizer sampled is the mussels -- tiny, old mussels, with no flavor. Several had broken shell mixed in with the mussel and some were so small that they were not worth fighting to get out of the shell. Pastas, fish and shellfish should be excellent in an Italian restaurant -- note here!

Cons: appetizers, entrees, dessert

Great food and service. The food is a little pricey but a splurge every now and then is okay, too. I love the hip decor. Beware: The wine list isn't too great....they've got alot of "young" wines".

What a restaurant! The service, the food, the atmosphere grade A. A little pricey, but worth it. The bread is awesome.

Fun murals on the walls; unpretentious wait staff; the best bread basket and bellinis in town. La Griglia is often crowded, so I'd recommend a reservation, but the food is reliably good and worth the wait.

I liked the fun murals -- drawings of dressed-up animals dining on a table with table legs of a human - drawings that you may see painted by a talented street artist on a NY building. Since I wasn't paying the bill, I did not know if we were overcharged like some other reviewers mentioned, but I wouldn't think so, and the waiters were friendly and attentive. Food was good, not memorable--hmmm...what was that appetizer I liked.
