Cou'Leur

I moved to Houston from out of state 2.5 years ago. I cannot tell you how frustrated I've been trying to find a hairstylist to actually care enough to listen to what I know about my hair, and what I WANT. Let me tell you, I've been through 5 different stylists in that amount of time. I've had my hair turned pink, fried to mush, turned gothic black, turned strawberry shortcake red, and turn out just plain blah. I've gone to stylists of every type, and every price point. Believe me, I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. I've taken in pictures, gone back repeatedly and have NOT found anyone who even came close to doing a good job on my hair. Until now! I can't tell you how glad I am that I found Mia. (I just had my hair done tonight).

Mia took the time to listen and UNDERSTAND before she just started throwing color in my hair and going with her own interpretation of what my hair should look like. She made suggestions that enhanced my ideas and incorporated everything I wanted. After such a long search I cannot tell you what a relief that is..(trust me, a girl's hair is a very delicate matter!) I am admittedly "determined" in what I want my hair to look like..and know just enough about hair to make someone crazy. So, I can be hard to please. UNLESS YOU TAKE THE TIME TO LISTEN! and Mia DOES!

As for the issue of Mia not "specializing" in cuts (although she happily trimmed mine tonight)...I personally don't think its a big deal. I'd rather have a stylist who TRULY specializes in color, and gets it right. Because Mia has dedicated her time to really studying color, she can deliver results the first time. Not only that, she was able to achieve the color I wanted AND make my hair look healthier than it has in years. She really cares about your hair.

I'd suggest instead of complaining about what you don't like, communicate with Mia. I can't believe that she would not be willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy. If you want more personalized attention (which I can understand), then let her know, and give her the chance to meet your needs, instead hoping she will read your mind.

As you can tell, I can't thank her enough! Great job Mia. (BTW, I am blonde with dark brown and red hilights. The blonde was the best I've had since moving to Houston).

After an almost 2 year search to find someone close to home, I have found Mia! She is brilliant with blondes & corrective color. Neat thing-- she uses a steamer instead of a dryer for you to sit under & my hair feels BETTER even though I went many shades blonder:) I would reccommend her services to anyone-- especially if you're a blonde.... I found Cou'leur on Citysearch and decided to give her a try. Mia really listens to what you want and my formerly brassy blonde hair is natural looking and healthier. I have been back twice and will be calling today for my third color appointment. I have found someone that is good with blonde and listens.
I won't go to anyone else!

I used to go to a salon in Rice Village, but left after I was unable to find a routine stylist (the salon had extremely fast turnover). I heard about Cou Leur through City Search, but was reluctant to try it based on somewhat conflicting reviews. I went in for a color & cut, but ended up having only color because I was informed that cutting is not in her area of expertise. For those that are unfamiliar, this is a salon run by one person - who is EXTREMELY talented with coloring hair - but prefers to not cut it. Though originally feeling inconvenienced, I kept the appointment and could not be happier with the results. My hair looks healthy and shiny...and NATURAL now...which is more than I can say for the 5 or so colorists prior. I recommend this for anyone looking for a nice update - be it for a natural hide-gray change, or even something dramatic. I will definitely return.

I have been a client of Mia's for a couple years now, but I think I will have to start looking elsewhere. My last 3 or 4 trips have been a huge disappointment (they are truly TRIPS for me because so far away from home)! The previous review is right about her being a fan of "squeezing you in" now which is inconvenient for all clients. My appointments used to last an hour, and the last three have lasted more than 2 hours because she will work on 2 and 3 clients at the same time (usually by herself!)...no more personalized attention! Very disappointing especially for a long-time client. And what's with not cutting hair all of the sudden? She used to cut mine, but apparently that's not as profitable for her anymore...I dunno? She is good at the color so if you have an emergency or don't mind spending 2-3 hours of your day at the salon, go for it. Personally, I think a good hairstylist can provide quality AND service and she is lacking in the service department. Good color, but no longer worth the drive or the money..I will be finding another stylist.

I went to Mia for a cut and color, but she said cuts weren't her specialty. She gave me great color. It's actually the blonde I didn't think I could get away with! After a few days, it's mellowed out to a beautiful honey. She was pretty fast considering my length. She did re-schedule a cut with her coworker, so I had to come back the next day. But I love the results! Cut and color! I recommend them both. The only reason why I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because when I called to make the appointment, she didn't tell me to schedule a cut with the stylist too (who only comes in on Thurs-Sat currently) so I had to make 2 trips when she told me she didn't prefer to cut it when I got it colored. Other than that, she's great and super friendly!!

I have been going to Mia now for about four months, and I am so Happy that I found her!! She does the best job on my hair color. I always get the most perfect, natural looking highlights. She is also very consistent. My hair looks the exact same color every time and no one else has been able to do that for me before. It always seemed like my hair would just get lighter and lighter with other colorists. If you are looking for the BEST, then Mia is your girl!! And even better than her talent is her price. Give her a try. You will not be sorry.

Mia is very fast and does a good job with color. She will also do what you want her to do. The big problem is that she doesn't like to cut hair, so here are some ways she deals with that:
1) she will squeeze you in and then suddenly be out of time to cut your hair and will ask you if she can do it next time. (she is a big fan of squeezing people in).
2) Or, she will start drying and forget to give you a cut - meanwhile the next client is waiting and you don't feel like you can ask her to cut it.
3) When you call to schedule, she will tell you she has time to fit you in for color, but not a cut - so you have to get a different appointment time.
It seems very passive agressive, though I'm not sure she realizes that. I'm not going back because I can't stand my split ends anymore and I need someone who does a cut and color at the same time EVERY time. I am tired of being surprised that I am leaving without a cut.

I have had the worst experience with getting my hair highlighted. I've always wanted that Jennifer Anistan golden blonde and no matter how many pictures I've brought into the salon, they never get it close. They always go way too blonde, make it ASHY (the worst), beige or stripey. I usually go home upset, disappointed and in need of a color correction right away. It has been a very frustrating experience but I am so glad I found Mia!

She patiently listened to my concerns and what look I was going for and she told me what color would go best with my skin tone. She gave me beautiful honey highlights that look amazing. I came in with the uglist color that was a result of having to get a demi perm brown to cover a bad highlight job. I can't believe how much better she made me look. :)

I was in and out within two hours and she is super friendly and VERY affordable. Very nice, clean salon too.

She is definitely the best colorist I've encountered. My sister has already made an appt to see her on Wednesday.

If you want great color and service, SEE MIA.

I just got back from my appt with Mia. I found Mia on citysearch and after reading many rave reviews I decided to make an appointment. My hair is jet black with some brown color and blond highlights, after going to a previous colorist, she made it worse by making it too brassy and orange so I asked Mia what would she recommend for my hair. She toned down the brassyness and gave me gorgeous highlights without further damaging my hair. She was fast and efficient yet paid attention to detail.

Usually most colorists can't lighten my super dark hair without multiple tries, but she did it the first time and it looked great! She didn't have to go back and re-do or re-touch anything. Her assistant did a wonderful blowout job with my thick hair! Everything went smoothly and didn't have to wait for anything.

She is very sweet and HIGHLY professional. Her prices are reasonable and the 1st time customer discount is awesome! She knows exactly what she's doing and is up to the trends. I would recommend her to anyone. She uses the best products on the market and keeps up to date with the latest hair fashion. She's got a great system and I look forward to making her "my colorist"!

Mia did a great job with my color "fix-up"! She was very sweet, professional, and prices were definitely reasonable. I had a bad hair experience, and she made me happy to look in the mirror again, ha! My hair felt healthy after all the work too, not dry and damaged. To be talented and affordable is a rare find, Mia's a steal!

Mia does a great job with color. She always does my hair exactly the way I want and the color stays that way. Unlike a lot of beauty professionals, if you show her a picture, she really will make your hair look that way. I'm really glad to have found her.

Mia is great. She is very sweet and makes the time pass very quickly. Her appointments are accurately timed to minimize customer wait. I have been getting my hair "couleured" by hair for awhile now, and she never ceases to amaze me with the results! She is quick at doing highlights and I have never seen anyone do such a detailed job as she has! I would definitely recommend her.

Oh yes, and I am supppppppper picky about my hair. I also read these reviews with skepticism but I am glad that I tried Mia out. She is great! Trust me.

I have been going to Mia for several months and love the results with my hair!! She has created beautiful color and highlights for me. She listens to what I like and she offers suggestions that are so helpful. Mia makes you feel comfortable and welcome. She is very talented and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else!!

Mia has been highlighting my hair for 3 years now, and I have always been thrilled with the results. She's very talented and knowledgable about her job. I have had many compliments about my hair color, and in fact many people think it is my natural color! I would recommend her work to anyone that I know - and I am very picky about anyone that does my hair. Mia is a sweetheart with a great personality and very skilled. I won't let anyone else color my hair!

Oh my God! I totally agree with the reviewer who said she is not experienced. She did a basic highlight job for me and they turned out brassy! I trusted the city search reviews and was completely let down. Never again. Mia was nice but a little fake too.
I'm going back to a normal salon with someone with more experience and better skills.

I'm relatively new to Houston and had a couple of bad experiences when trying find a colorist. I had the same colorist for 5 yrs back home and was pessimistic about finding a good colorist here. I was elated when I found Mia. I am very picky, my hair is very dark and I'm always afraid of brassy highlights but Mia was right on the money and gave me the desired color and thickness of highlights. What makes it even better is the fact that Mia is a SWEETHEART because she gives great customer service, even if you do find a colorist that is skilled, it still burns you to pay if the service was bad - not a problem at Cou'leur. Mia is a professional and provides excellent customer service.

Thanks again Mia! You are a miracle worker, you have been doing my hair for years and you never once disappoint me but kind enough to fit me in your busy schedule everytime I go to Houston. You see I still got stopped and asked where I got my hair done ... often enough that I wish you could move to my town :).
It just AMAZING how you mix and pick to give my hair a great look everytime. Not just yet, wash after wash my hair still looks FANTASTIC because people would ask me if I just got my hair done again though it's already been closed to 2 months.

DO NOT believe the only bad review Mia has received. I dont see how this person could have been unhappy. Mia is a dream come true! THE hair color, highlight MASTER! I have been looking for the perfect colorist forever & IVE FINALLY found her! Besides her attention to detail, making sure of the look you're going for and making absolutely certain you are happy....she is also such a GREAT LADY!! very nice & respectful. I truly & honestly had a very delightful experience, THE best highlight I've had & Ill be back in 6 wks! Congrats mIA on another new loyal client!

I wonder about these reviews put on the site. I should have known better when she only guarantees her work for one week!! WHat she did, I could have done at home for a lot less. She is nice, but she's inexperienced and I've had my hair colored for 15+ years and around the world. She did a bad job for me.

After reading all the reviews written, I decided to give Mia a try. She did a wonderful job. She was quick and precise. She talked with me for quite some time to make sure we both understood exactly what was to be done. It turned out exactly the way I wanted it. The prices were reasonable as well. I have paid twice her price for half the service and satisfaction at other salons. She is the sweetest person to boot. I got a hug just for getting my hair colored! I highly recommend her.

Mia is a great colorist as well as stylist. She knew exactly what I wanted and my hair turned out awesome. She is very friendly and professional. I wouldn't mind being there for 4 hours, she made me feel very comfortable. My highlites look great and I will be going to Mia from now on.

My experience w/ Mia has been absolutely amazing. She is great w/ color and even fixed a bad haircut that I got from Cut Loosed salon. My hair was a frizzy mess and she fixed it right up w/out charging. As for her coloring skills, she is by far the best colorist I've had and I change my haircolor like every other month. Additionally, she is fabulous and definitely someone you would not mind being around for a couple a hours. Don't let her fool you either, while hair color is her forte, she is a great stylist as well. 5 Stars!!! I almost forgot to mention, when I move back to New Orleans in Jan., i will be driving back to Houston to have Mia do my hair.

I moved 2 Houston & had been using the same hairdresser in Louisiana for 5 years. I am VERY picky when it comes to coloring & cutting my hair(its down to my lower back & is very healthy)! I found Mia on CitySearch & figured I'd go ahead and give her a chance(since she had awesome reviews)! I had been having a little bit of trouble trying to get the red out of my hair when i was in Louisiana(red is hard to get out once you put it in)! Mia ended up getting most of it out! I was very impressed! She did an AMAZING job on my color & cut! She even lightened up my eyebrows a little bit making the overall look complete! If anyone out there can relate to my experience, my advice to you is "TRUST IN HER!" She knows what shes doing!

I had already spent over 600.00 trying to have miy hair fixed. I had been to some the nicer and higher rated salons in Houston and they couldn't even compare to how well Mia did on my hair. She came in early and was so sweet. I would recommend her for anyone who wants their hair fixed or wants to have thier hair done for the first time. You will not be dissappointed.

So, I tried to dye my hair blonde with a home kit, and washed it out only to see sickly yellow with a white skunk stripe right down the middle. I found Mai's review on CitySearch and since she had such a high rating, I put my trust in fellow reviewers and went running to her for help. She completely fixed my hair; it's now a beautiful strawberry blonde with golden and copper streaks. I LOVE it! I will never mess with my hair again; from now on, it's in Mai's hands! As an added bonus, she's so sweet and put me right at ease, even though I was still shaken from my screw up. Trust her, she's an artist!

Mia is such a wonderful person! She kept me talking the entire time, which made time fly by. Mia has wonderful energy and great skill. I told her about my hair and what I wanted for my hair this visit and she did it perfectly! The price was so reasonable, actually cheaper than anywhere I had ever been and the experience was worth so much more. I received compliments from everyone at work this morning and already passed out her name and number! She is my hairdresser for life!

I met Mia when she was working at the other salon...I didn't see her for awhile until I happen to run into her again at a Target of all places and she gave me her business card, she told me she had went on her own. I wanted to give her a try and I am glad that I did. I have referred several friends and family members to her. Mia goes above and beyond her JOB. The last time I was there I didn't leave until 11pm. Mia made sure that my daughter and I were taken care of to the fullest. Unfortanately, I will be moving to California soon, however, I will be coming back to Houston and still going to Mia. It's hard to trust someone when it comes to your hair. I have all the confidence in the world in her...Thanks Mia

I've been to so many salons & was always unsatisfied. She did the best highlight job I've ever had and her prices are excellent! I am so happy that I've FINALLY found the ONE to do my hair! I cannot say enough about Mia. I went last night for my first visit after reading reviews on this site. I had some bad hair went I went in to her and now I feel like a whole new person. She did a great color and highlight job and gave me a great cut. She is really into new, cutting edge style. I even got a compliment from someone before I left . I have really fine, dry hair and I really liked that she educated me about ways to prevent damage to my hair in the future....not just by trying to sell me products like all the other salons. Even though I was her last appointment, she took the time to work with me and listen to me. She made me feel so welcome! I live and work downtown, but I will face the traffic to keep seeing Mia!

I had to find another salon after going to the same person for 5 years (that was very hard). I tried a couple of expensive Salon's and was not happy at all. I found Mia by asking a girl in the car wash who does her hair, because it looked so good. She referred me to Mia. I started going to Mia about 7 months ago. She was great! She new exactly what I was looking for in highlights. I get so many compliments from total strangers about my hair. I can't say enough about what a wonderful job she does.

I can't say enough about Cou'leur and it's color director Mia. I've been a loyal customer for over two years now, and will not go any where else. They have a great referral program, and I always leave a very happy customer. Needless to say, I've referred more than a half dozen friends that ask me where I got my color done at. I'm really appreciative of Mia because good color specialists are hard to find, especially when prices are so reasonable. Cou'leur is truly a good find in Houston. They use the same quality products that other much more expensive day spa uses, and you don't have to pay New York prices to get better results. Bravo....

I have had such great experiences at Cou'leur. Mia is such a great stylist and she always seems to know what I'm trying to ask her to do. I always have people ask who colors my hair and tell me it looks great. Cou'leur is a very relaxing place and I never feel pressured to buy any products like I have at some other well known places in the past. I always leave feeling pleased about my hair.

One thing I like about Cou'leur is the star stylist, Mia, who can make anything work by listening to any criticisms. She definitely makes me comfortable in knowing that I can tell her what I want in my hair, and she'll do it right without any hesitation. I also like the fact that she doesn't pressure me into buying anything. She is very professional and is open to all suggestions. With years of experience...(I know beacause I've been her loyal client), Mia isn't shy when it comes to innovative ideas and styles. She always have all the right answers to any questions when it comes to hair. I highly recommend Cou'leur to anyone because the salon is not just nice and comfortable, but is also coupled with a wonderful stylist.

I was very nervous trying a new salon and was sooooo glad i did! Mia is truly a gifted artist- somehow she knew exactly which cut/color would best accent my features the first time she met me. I had a great time talking to a stylist who was still surprisingly cheerful and energetic at 8pm in a cozy atmosphere with high-quality products and affordable prices

I can't tell you enough how glad I am to finally have a stylist that knows how to work with my not-so-easy-to-deal-with hair. It is almost critical for high-profile salesman like myself to look professional and clean-cut every single meeting with my clients and potential clients.

cou'leur uses top notch quality coloring material and is the best results I've had so far. It is low ammonia and colors come out natural. I wouldl typically have to go to much more expensive salons to get this type of results. It's a great buy, excellent value
