At Starbucks, I understand customers are allured to the "experience". The same is true with the Palace- and with its owner, Linda. I actually enjoy sitting, watching the people, listening to Linda and the responses of her customers. I witness firsthand the quality caliber of the "cross section" of McKinney's citizenry- and Linda treats all with the respect of royalty- from the Doctors to the tradesmen- from the children to the retirees. Price is reasonable and the haircut is usually along the lines of my expectation. I really enjoy the hot lather on the back of the neck and appreciate the "hedge trimming" within the ears! No, I am not retired, but have worked 40 years as a professional. Moved to Frisco 4 years ago from the Southeast as most of our adult kids eventually moved to Texas. Couldn't tolerate the idea of going to a "Franchise" barbershop- of the "feel" of being herded like cattle. Part of the price I pay at the Palisades is the wait time, but then the value added "experience' during that wait time more offsets any inconvenience of the wait time. And that "feeling" or experience at the Palace- It compares to feelings experienced in my teen years with Simon and Garfunkel's whemsical lyrics of their "59th Bridge Street Song" and , now in my early sixties, the hope/reverence felt in the lyrics of "Amazing Grace" . The Palace is a good time out from the fast pace of text messaging, meetings, deadlines, meeting expectations of those who have "lost touch" expectations.

For those who forgot or never knew the lyrics of "59th Street Song", have pasted those lyrics below. Assume all are familiar with "Amazing Grace", if not, google the title and read those majesty words. Some day, all of us will experience that last haircut and "Amazing Grace" will indeed take on a greater significance. Thank you for the opportunity to express my gratitude.

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.

Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.

Hello lamp-post,
What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.

I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all it's petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.

Shucks- time to go, she's finished- Next customer!!!!

Never have felt the need to write a review on something, but I was not very happy with this particular experience.

Was in town for the holidays and figured I'd get a haircut. Instead of settling with a chain such as supercuts or sportclips, I figured I'd go to an old-town barber shop because I needed a good fade and knew they'd probably be the best bet.

Read these reviews and figured I'd give it a try.

Service was fine, no complaints, aside from the lone barber in the back who occasionally took customers and made others wait? I got seated and (so I thought) 'specifically' explained to the barber down to the detail on how to do the fade and then told her I wanted "some off the top." (I came in there with about 2 1/2 inches on top).

The fade was too high even after showing with my hand where to do it, but turned out to be a decent fade, so well done on that. Once the fade was done I re-iterated again about the top and said "only a little bit please." Well, she took more than a little and left me with not even an inch on top; even after I came in with it styled on top, which means that I obviously prefer some on the top to mess with. Following the cut she asked if "that was short enough" (when I never stated anything about wanting it short).

Everything else was well, maybe I should have explained even more detail / drew a picture or should have known that a small town barbershop like this always cuts people's hair short no matter what?

Had the potential to be a great cut, but extremely dissatisfied for the holidays, I'll be happy in a few weeks once it's back, thanks.

Super friendly people! Linda is only the fourth or fifth owner of the business since it began in 1892! Brenda and Brian are experienced and will do what you want them to do with a smile on their face!

This place is old fashion. You go in have a seat and then they try to figure out whose next???? I waited one Sat. morning for almost an hour and was next up and she took someone else!!! I knew she took the wrong person, so did the guy but she said no "he was here first". After all that time, I just walked out. I'll never go back there. If like waiting around and then hoping they pick the next person in line-good luck. Go somewhere else!

This place is no frills and they cut hair one way: short.
$14 for a fade and a hot lather shave around the ears is a bargain! SportClips, Great Clips, SuperCuts, they all charge more and no way do they have the clipper skills that they have at Palace Barbershop.

If you are looking for an old fashioned head to the square on McKinney. For men this is the good, consistent, basic haircut. Haircuts around $14 includes old style shave behind ears and back of neck. Best time to go is mid-day, no reservations taken. There is a wait time early in the morning. Theresa W.

This is by far the best barbershop in Northern Collin County, Linda and Jr are a cut above the rest and good down to earth people! If your looking for a great haircut and a good ole barbershop you have looked in the right place! As far as the gentleman who thought this shop hours were a little Frey, they are now open on Saturday's All Day, which makes it a little easier to plan when to go in!!

Any of these barbers are top notch seasoned professionals. Just good solid people as you would expect in Downtown McKinney on the Square. As far as the lady who owns it apparently now, she is a fine Christian woman and works hard.

Reasonable prices and special people. The place to go around McKinney.

I live in Frisco. Worth the trip.

Use to be a good place to sit and gab a little. Since the owner sold to a female barber it's not the same. Most important the hours aren't dependable any more. I'm looking for another place. Let me know what you find

A long time downtown Mc Kinney barber shop that still has the barber pole outside and first come first serve hair cutting inside. I have been traveling from Plano to Mc Kinney to get my hair cut for 20 years. Have tried to find a shop closer but they just know how to cut hair and the price is very appealing. No frills in this shop but good value for your money
