I started going to Brandi for my cut and colors about 2 years ago and absolutely love the color I wind up with every single time. She's a whizz when it comes to coloring. As far as haircuts, I typically only get trims so my opinion on cuts isn't really valid.
However, my major complaint with Cobalt Blue, a.k.a. Brandi, is that she's a high-in-demand stylist and I typically have to make my appointments way in advance in order to block time with her. So, I book my appointment way in advance, but still wind up getting put with Brandi's assistant(s) half the time. Brandi still "oversees" them, but meanwhile, she's working on another client. And THEN, I get stuck paying the price for a high quality stylist when I had been stuck with a stylist in training for half the time...

First time I went, I was totally wowed and loved the color, haircut and service. Second time, same person, totally different color and haircut and almost no service. My niece got a wonderful Japanese style haircut there, and my brother gets his haircuts there, and I am going to try again.

so i went to cobalt awhile back. i left feeling very typical. looking around the salon there was nothing unique about the salon its self, the employees, the decor. very cookie cutter. i live in AUSTIN, i want to be be different expressing that through my clothes and style. if you are looking for something edgy, fun, fashion forward, and unique this is not the place for you. if you want to blend into the crowd this the place for you. But if not there are a lot of salons in austin that can provide you with something really new and hip! so keep looking and dont settle for the normal and boring just because its convienent and affordable.

Erica was so great. I needed a haircut last minute and she was able to see me ASAP. As soon as I got there she had me in the chair and listened to me ramble on about how I hated my hair and didn't know what I wanted to do with it. It has been a very long time since I actually liked my hair, and Erica knew exactly what to do and proceeded with confidence, which made me feel comfortable, and then worked her magic!

I walked out of there with a very inexpensive haircut and I felt great. (and I look incredibly cute! :-) I had so much fun. I have paid a lot of money for some pretty awful cuts in this town. This is the best experience by far that I have had at any salon in Austin. Thanks, Erica!!

I am so glad I found Robin and Cobalt Blue when I moved here 2 years ago. I was even more delighted when they moved south! I have never had a bad experience. Robin is awesome! She takes her time and figures out her plan of action to make sure I get the cut and/or color outcome I want. I'm someone who likes to change my hair color across the map and Robin always takes me up on the challenge whether its going platinum or adding in more extreme colors. I never walk out without feeling better than when I came in. The stylists at Cobalt Blue are constantly attending training to update and expand their techniques, which is always a positive sign in a salon. They sell a variety of really great products, and they always seem to be having drawings so you can take a chance at winning something for free. I would absolutely recommend Robin and Cobalt Blue to anyone and I do.

I always go to Robin. She is sweet and just makes me feel comfortable. She listens to what I want but will tell me honestly if she thinks a different color or cut may flatter me more. I'm picky about my hair. If, within two weeks of my haircut/color I decide it's not exactly what I want, I go back and she adjusts it, free of charge. Someone mentioned the salon being a little pricey. It's about the same as many others in Austin and I'm willing to pay for gorgeous hair. Plus, Jason is so friendly and always offers you something to drink.

As a new resident to Austin, I found Cobalt Blue to have quality services for reasonable prices. The staff is friendly. They have ottomans to rest your tired feet on while at the rinse bowl. What a concept? I have never put my feet up at a salon before but maybe i wasnt going to the right place.

I will start with the only good thing about the salon- their receptionist. He was very friendly and stylish. Other than that, this place was disappointing. I only went here because of the stellar reviews. My stylist was over 30 min late. The receptionist apologized several times. All the sylists that day were all wearing flip flops and were dressed sloppily. I'm not a snob, but it's unsanitary to wear flip flops with all those little hairs on the ground. After the stylist finally came over to greet me, she pawned me off on someone else to wash my hair. The girl who washed my hair was in training and pulled my short hair and did a very awkard wash. I waited for another 10 min and she finally comes over and says the hair cut I want is the hardest haircut to do but proceeds to cut my hair for 5 min then leaves again! The hairwasher dries my hair (poorly) while the stylist starts cutting a new client's hair! I got up to pay, thinking maybe she would see that I was upset with all the waiting and come back to finally finish my hair. Instead she walks over and takes the cape off while I am paying, getting hair all over my clothes and says that she's done. The receptionist pointed out that she had gotten hair all over me and she just brushed off my back some. I was charged $70+ for this cut which looked horrible. They stylist said I could come back if I was unsatisfied with the cut, but after spending over an hour in there for 5 minutes worth of cutting, I was too disappointed and enraged to step foot in there again.
When I went home my husband said that it was uneven and choppy in the back. I had to go to another salon the following day to get it straightened out. The bottom line- this place is way overrated. Even if I just went on an off day, I can't imagine how they are charging seventy bucks for just a few minutes of service. I got a thank you card from the stylist later asking me to refer my friends and family. BOO! She has some nerve.

I love Cobalt Blue! From Jason's 'radio voice' on the telephone to all the friendly staff. Brandy is a whiz with color. I have uber stubborn white hair that normally does not take color, but she always finds a way to cover them. I like precision hair cuts and she is fantastic with them. I never leave disappointed. I highly recommend all the staff. They are super and always make you feel welcome.

Adrianne did my hair today, including coloring, highlights, and a cut. It looks fabulous and she really took her time and listened to what I wanted. She was easy to talk to and took great care of me while I was there. She is a perfectionist about her work and I can't imagine she'd let anyone walk out of the salon looking anything but great. I definitely recommend her work if you have time to go sit and be pampered for a while. The salon was close to my home, which is much more convenient than the ones downtown, and was clean and professional. Everyone there seemed friendly. They were able to get me in on short notice and did not rush me through like some places will. They did not push to sell a lot of products and even gave me a new customer packet with coupons good for return visits. Thanks Cobalt Blue!

My experience at Cobalt Blue was wonderful. Brandy and Mudri took me in on short notice and did wonders on my hair. The atmosphere was engaging and relaxing. Great hair and smiling when I left the salon. Not much more I can say--go there!

I just changed salons and was very happy with Cobalt Blue. Robin gave me a fabulous haircut that I can make look nice with minimal effort. My haircut was on the night of my Christmas party, so the makeup touch-up was greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I am so thrilled by my new haircut and color I got from Amy Sinclair at Cobalt Blue. She told me things about my hair that no other stylist has ever mentioned. My hair is fine and straight but Amy knew how to cut it to make it look more full. The color she used hides the gray but looks really natural. My hair feels bouncy and soft and the new cut makes me look younger but is age-appropriate. I don't think it was my imagination that guys were checking me out after I left there! Amy has been doing hair in Austin for many years and was highly recommended to me. I'm glad I followed up because she really knows her stuff and you can tell she thoroughly enjoys what she does. I'll be back!

I just went to Cobalt Blue after many months of looking for a new stylist. I went to see Robin and had a great experience. The owner Theresa greeted me and made me feel right at home. She really went way beyond the normal "Hi, go sit over there and wait." greeting. She showed me Robin's portfolio and told me all about the salon. When I met with Robin she was really nice and talked to me about what I wanted with my hair. I brought in some pictures and she had one that was similar so I felt like she really understood what I wanted. I also had concerns about my over processed hair and Robin suggested a great conditioning treatment that really helped my hair feel softer and stronger. The cut she gave me was exactly what I wanted. She talked me through the products she was using too. My blow-out lasted 3 days and I have fine hair so that was a record for me! I highly recommend this salon. Everyone there has great style and they are so professional and nice. Oh, I almost forgot, when I called for an appointment we were having a hard time finding an appointment that worked for me. They were able to work me in and really went the extra mile to get me in quickly. I will absolutely be going back and recommending Cobalt Blue to my friends. Thanks for a great experience!

Just so you know I am related to mamato2. Let me set the record straight. She did go back!!! And let me tell you... That is where the problem got worse. That is when the smirk remark of "I did not know it was going to turn out that way" took place. Seriously people, you can write what you want. But remember this site to to write a review of your visit. You can be friends with your stylist if you want. That does not mean she is the greatest stylist!!!
I know not all stylists are perfect, but she took the 2 week guarantee and regreted ever going back. We have pictures to prove the mess that was created. Take a look if you wish. Robin f***ed up her hair. Do not go to her!!!!

And this is just the beginning. When a complete stranger comes up to you and asks you where you get your hair done, you know you have found a great stylist. When the price of a haircut is less than a pair of Nike Shox--not out of your co-workers van but from a store...you know you have found the place to maintain your fabulous locks. Trust me, I have some locks. I am a Latina with 16 inches of full midnight-black tresses, and I am very careful about who I let touch my hair. To prove how far I go with this...I live in Houston, and every three months I drive to Austin just so Robin can cut my hair. She is absolutely amazing. She has always worked within the paramaters that I set, with a particular look I want, offered suggestions based on the texture of my hair, my daily routine, my facial structure, the works. Robin is a stylist that not only pays attention to detail, but makes sure that I'm very satisfied with the end result.
I have had two different people in Houston who have traveled to Austin to get there haircut, as well as people in Austin who stopped me and asked for her at Cobalt Blue. Not to mention she is Redkin certified and has had training at Vidal Sassoon. How do I know this? I asked her! Open, upfront, honest, and professional are words that describe Robin at Cobalt Blue.

I sincerely hope that you consider her for your next hair appointment.

I went into Cobalt Blue after a bad experience at another salon. I showed up at CB with hair that looked like it has been cut with a machete. Robyn was my stylist. She spent about 15 minutes just talking about my hair, my lifestyle, really getting to know me. I needed a style but was really concerned with the upkeep. I am a wash and go type of girl and my hair gorws really fast. She cut and colorerd my hair. The color was my hair color but only better richer and VERY shiny! I felt like a million bucks. Then she showed me how to dry my hair using my hand like a comb smoothing it out using my head to shape my hair. It was awesome. Now it has been two months later and my hair style is still holding. I am planning to make my next appt. in the next couple of weeks with Robyn. Service was awesome!

I am so excited that I can't stand it. I went to Cobalt Blue last week after a hair disaster at another salon. My hair was a mess, the color was a disaster and I was very depressed. If any of you have had a bad color experience before then you know how I was feeling. A friend of mine at work told me about Cobalt Blue so I called them. I explained my situation and they booked me with Brandy. I learned once I went in that she is a color specialist and has had alot of experience in fixing other stylists mess-ups. When I sat down Brandy asked me about what they had done with my hair and what I was wanting. Then she fully explained her plan and everything she was going to do before she started which really made me feel better. She really seemed to know what she was talking about. Long story short, once Brandy was done my color was better than I had originally expected before the mess. I can't explain how grateful I am, because I really expected to have a couple of bad hair months. Brandy you're my hero.
Lastly, the location is great and it is very easy to get to. It has a great professional atmosphere. I was very impressed with the entire staff. They all seem to help each other out and work together as a team.

Robyn is the sweetest, most talented, most down to earth person you will ever encounter. She genuinely cares about her customers. We are more than customers to her, we are her friends. I have been coming to her for years now and she has never once done anything I do not like. She only does what you ask of her. She always gets it right. This is not to mention the 2 week guarantee that she offers as well. If by some chance you walk away not liking your hair cut, customers can come back free of charge to fix it to their liking. Robyn as well as the rest of the staff over at cobalt blue are some of the most professional people in the business. You will be satisfied a hundred times over by choosing cobalt blue for your next hair appointment. I highly recommend them.

Robin, my stylist is always bright and cheery and has a way with my hair that makes people forget that I sit at a desk all day. Great cut, no worries and I'm out in a flash. I rarely write reviews online, but I have to sit down and write about the consistent superior service I receive every time I visit Cobalt Blue:

From the moment I am greeted by their chic salon coordinator, to the time I spend with my stylist, and the personal "hello" and "thank you for your business"that I receive from the salon owner; I feel like a guest in someone's home and not just another client or number.

As a person who travels and keeps a very busy work schedule, I don't always have the luxury of pre-booking my appointments with the same stylist. As a result, I have had the distinct pleasure of being pampered by Brandy, Robyn, Rahel, and Jessica! All have given me perfect cuts, color, and style...not to mention the fabulous scalp massage and complimentary hand massage. Wow!! I love the fact that Cobalt Blue is truly a team, I never feel like I'm hurting someone's feelings by making an appointment with a different stylists based on availability. Each one always makes a point to say hello and make me feel right at home. I look forward to my next appointment! P.S. Ladies, make sure to request a complimentary make up touch up! I bought the greatest lipstic and it's made my evening!

For those of you who read the review by Mamato2, you did not get the full story. I am a long time customer of Cobalt Blue, and Robin has been my stylist. I always get the cut and color that I envision. I have never walked away as a disappointed customer. And here's why: I know that if for any reason I do not like my cut or color, I always have the option of returning to the salon within two weeks and getting a touch up. That is an offer that I have never needed to use, but I know that it's there for me if I need it. Mamato2 did not need to give the salon a one star rating. No hair stylist is perfect, but Cobalt Blue Salon offers all of its clients stellar customer service. On a side note, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the parking. There are no reserved parking spots, and I have never had a problem parking for my hair appointment.

I had my haircut and color there by Robin this summer. It was the was the worst experience ever!! I am still recovering from it. My hair was long and Iasked for something shorter. I was hoping to go to shoulder length. Had no idea by the time I got it fixed somewhere else that I would end up with short hair just to fix all the damage that was done. She went scissor crazy, too many layers that did not blend in well. Looked chopped and uneven. It was a horrible cut!!! It looked like Robin Sizzorhands had no clue. Oh and the color!! I just wanted a touch up on the color I already had. I ended up with these orange looking highlights. :( I had a feeling she knew she mesed up when she said (wow, look at your color I did not realize it was going to be that color!) She failed short to mention that she messed up!! Don't go there or at least not to her. I used to get compliments on my hair all the time, the only thing I got then were stares rrrrrr!! Horrible, worst experience ever!!! Now just recovering but not worth the money I paid there and then had to go somewhere else and pay again for someone else to fix the mess she made.

I've only been to Cobalt Blue twice, but I will definitely keep coming back! The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and they always create the look that you ask for. The salon itself is comfortable and clean, and very aesthetically pleasing. Last time I was there, one of the staff members ran across the street to get a client some iced tea while her hair was drying! I personally went with something funky for my hair, and I absolutely love how it turned out (ask for Jessica)! Even my family members have given it rave reviews.

I just wanted to express that although I will miss Cobalt Blue, I will, without a second thought be following Amy T. to Topaz salon. I have never felt that a hairstylist has ever made me feel as good about myself as she has. From the amazing color and cuts she gives to her caring personality and fabulous shampoos, I will follow her to Alaska if I have too!
So here's to Amy T. and congratulations to Topaz Salon. You have made a good investment !

I am Brazilian and I have gone to several different hair salons since I arrived in Austin, but with no luck finding an individual who would cut the way I want, or even close for that matter. I was so impressed with the way Teresa had cut my friend?s hair that I made an appointment two days later. Actually, it has been almost two years? I have seen Robyn lately and have had great experiences with her, too. I am always pleased with my haircut. Robyn takes her time to help me find the perfect words to describe ?in english? what I want and I cannot thank her enough for her fabulous sense of style, WHAT A TALENT!!! I have gone to this establishment twice now. I saw Cody and Amy T. and have had great experiences with both. They don't try to get you in and out, they take time to know your needs, your hair, and what you are wanting for your new look. They were helpful, flexible and down to earth. First let me just say that I have been looking for a new salon for awhile so after reading the reviews for Cobalt Blue I called to make an appointment. I spoke with Theresa on the phone & she was incredibly helpful. I told her I had very very curly hair and she said she did too so she knew I wanted to see someone who knew what they were doing. She recommended Amy T. I went in last saturday (6/14/08) and had an awesome experience! Everyone I came in contact with was friendly and made me feel welcome. Amy T. is an amazing artist! She knows what she is doing and definitely knows how to sculpt very curly hair. She took the time to explain to me all of the products she was using on my hair and why. When she finished styling my hair she took the time to show me my hair from every angle and explain why it was cut that way. I have never had my hair look so gorgeous in my entire life! She showed me how to style it just like she did and even recommended a great diffuser for me (which I went straight out & bought!). I HIGHLY recommend Amy T. & Cobalt Blue. I LOVE my new haircut!

Also, Jason (I hope that is his name) was very friendly and made me feel like my business actually mattered to the salon. He welcomed me as a first-time customer when I got there and gave me an envelope full of coupons for the salon! He took the time to show me all of the products Amy used on my hair afterwards and gave me a brochure for the product company. Needless to say, I am very impressed with this salon and can't wait to go back for another service!

After much hestitation to even make a hair appointment due to my last hair salon experiences, I saw the good reviews on Citysearch for Cobalt Blue and decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised by the great service and friendliness of everyone in the salon, and by the great haircut I received. I had Amy T., and she was delightful! She made me feel comfortable right away, and spent time to find out exactly what I wanted. I specifically did not want my hair to be razor cut, and she said that was fine and let me know others also preferred not to have that. She was friendly and great to talk to throughout the cut, yet she was very professional and she obviously really knew what she was doing. I came out with exactly the cut I wanted, plus tips on how to style it and a follow up appointment for my next cut. Great to finally find a good salon and hair stylist!

i love this place - they go out of their way to get you an appointment, even staying quite late if necessary. the work is awesome, the staff is super friendly and the prices are not bad at all. robin is great, she listens to what you want but also gives very helpful suggestions to get you the best color & cut possible. wouldnt go anywhere else!

Cobalt blue was a wonderful experience (something I am not used to when having my extremely curly hair cut). Rahel worked with me and she listened to my needs and made sure I felt comfortable and heard. She is very talented with the scissors and since I trust her so, I plan on letting her cut and style my hair in a bob (how exciting!). My hair is light and has movement and though it is still long, it is a lot more comfortable (which in the summer, us, curlies know how uncomfortable our manes can be). Comfort was a main factor: Rahel listened to that and at the same time she didn't sacrifice style either. Cobalt Blue is the salon for all hair types and I would recommend it to everyone simply because of the jovial atmosphere and the hairdressers' willingness to actually LISTEN to their patrons.

Everyone there is wonderful. I was lucky enough my first time in to have Amy T. work with me. I have used a thermol straightener in my hair for years, and recently moving to Austin, I was dead set on using the same product. After 2 phone conversations with her, she assured me I would like much better the product she recommended. Very hesitant, I agreeded and was she ever right!!! It was so much better for my hair, and works even better, as my hair is softer, and staying just as straight as my old product. She also is a great stylist and has given me an adorable new, fresh haircut. Never having colored my hair in a salon before, she is also working with me on highlights, as I want to slowly start letting my gray come through. The soft golden highlights look beyond amazing and I am delighted at the constant compliments I get from friends and family. Do yourself a favor and get to Cobalt Blue FAST!!!!!!

I agree with the previous review (johenson): I would follow Amy T to any salon, be it Cobalt Blue or Topaz or Buckwheat's Barbarr Shope - if that's where she's happy, I'll be there. I used to drive the length of Austin to get to Cobalt Blue just to see Amy T, during rush hour, so I have no doubt that I would likewise extend that voyage to Alaska or Central America or wherever she chooses to exercise her talent. Though I will miss Cobalt Blue and its very relaxing, comfortable atmosphere, and very friendly, unpretentious staff, in the end, it's really about the hair, and Amy T knows it. She is able to actualize my ideas, when I have them, and I am perfectly comfortable letting her get experimental when I don't. Oh, my hair is the canvas, her scissors the brush, my coiffure the painting.

Note: I am of the male gender. To generalize, men tend to care less about their hair or their stylist, and before my experience with Amy T, I was no exception to that stereotype. So men, I encourage you to visit Amy T at her new location.

This is the best salon in Austin. I have known the owners for several years and have followed them from their first location to this one. Great job Cobalt Blue on decorating this salon. It is fun just to be there not to mention the dedication of their stylists and how welcome they make you feel. I go to Matt and let me tell you about him. I come in from out of town and he always stays late and does "whatever it takes" to make me look and feel great. He has given me the absolute best colors I have ever had! He always gives me something different and puts his heart and soul into it. His cuts are outstanding and are also the best I have ever recieved. One night instead of leaving the salon he heard I was in town and stayed that night until 10:00 pm just to get me in ! Who do you know that will fit you in at 8:30 pm on a friday to do color hilites and a cut ! No one! The whole atmosphere here makes you want to stay longer just to hang out with them! Worth every penny! I love Cobalt Blue!!

This place was exactly what I was looking for after moving to Austin! The prices are unbeatable, eapecially for the quality and customer service you receive! Brandy did my highlights and did an awesome job! I even got a free hand massage!!! If you are looking for an upscale salon without paying upscale prices, this place is for you! I recently moved here and found this place after reading several reviews. This was the only place that had all 5 star reviews that I saw, and it is well deserved. The front desk staff was very nice and treated myself and everyone else like regulars. Robin was awesome. She listened to what I told her I wanted and gave some great suggestions. I just got back from Cobalt Blue where Brandy did full highlights and a cut for me. Thanks to Brandy, this is the best my hair has looked in years! I have wavy-curly hair which she cut perfectly and I don't even know where to begin on how perfect my highlights are (I'm naturally dirty blonde). I'm new to Austin and used one of the highest rated salons (not Cobalt Blue) for highlight touch-ups a couple of months back. I left with yellow-orange, chunky, un-natural looking highlights that needed to fixed, but I was scared to try anywhere else! I finally decided to try Cobalt Blue; Brandy fixed their mess and made my hair look naturally sun-kissed. She gave the perfect shade of blonde for my complexion and waves...it's amazing. I'm so relieved to have found the best stylist for me in Austin....I'm not looking anywhere else!!! The entire staff at Cobalt Blue was friendly and made my first time there quite enjoyable. I highly recommend Cobalt Blue, especially Brandy....she's a true artist!

i was a bit nervous at first because i had a bad experience with another local salon but was absolutely amazed by the customer service and most friendly environment! Amy T. is great! She fixed the damage that an other (way pricier) salon had done! She spent hours on my hair and got it back to the color that it should be! The entire staff was wonderful and i didn't even notice that i had spent four hours there!! The prices are very reasonable, especially for a student, and i will most definitely be visiting again!!!

I have very curly hair and have had difficulty finding someone who knows how to cut curly hair. Robin at Cobalt is great. She listens to what I have in mind and really does a great job. She even did my hair for my wedding. I got so many compliments on the cut and color. I was very pleased. So if you need a great hair cut and color (especially curly hair) recommend Cobalt Blue.

My experience was absolutely wonderful. I was anxious when I first got there because I had a few mishaps with other hair stylists but as soon as I sat down in Amy T.' s chair I felt comfortable & confident that she would be able to fix my hair color. She really listened to me & got my hair back to normal. Plus she did an awesome job on my hair cut. I told her the I cut I wanted & she did it exactly the way I wanted it. She took time on my hair to get it right & I'm so glad I found my new stylist. The salon has a fun & relaxed atmosphere. Everyone there was so nice. They made me feel like I was a long time customer. After my experience with them, I will definitely be a life time customer from this point on.

Robyn at Cobalt Blue is a true artist. I have very fine thin hair, and she took her time giving me a dry cut that is absolutley perfect. I have never found a salon in Austin that I wanted to do repeat buisness with. I am usually very turned off by the uppity attitudes found in many of the salons around town, and I've tried lots of them, but my experience at Cobalt Blue was refreshing and I'm looking forward to my next appointment.

I have been looking for somewhere to get my hair cut for a long time,it seems like everywhere i go they just want to chop all my hair off becouse thats what they think looks good,But not Amy T at colbalt,I told her what i wanted and she did it even better than i could explaine,I love her and will be a devoted customer for life,I have an appointment today and i am so excited becouse every time i leave there it is a agreat experience

I have to preface this review with a mention that the last few cut/styles I've had have been disastrous. Searched the web and found this salon and they had just moved not to far away from my place and so I figured I would give it a try. I called and got in right away. Matt was the fellow for me! He asked all kinds of questions about my hair and made lots of notes. He got to the root of my hair issues and gave me a great cut and some great advice about how to deal with my unruly hair. I would highly recommend this salon and Matt.

Cobalt Blue was just perfect. I called around to alot of different places for my friends and I to get our hair colored at the same time and day, but we didn't want any ordianary colors, we wanted blue, purple and red. When I called i talked to Cody, and I told him what we wanted, and he was like GREAT!! We have all those colors, so right away i was super excited, when we came in Threasa welcomed us like a regular. Cody did my sister and my hair. He was so excited to that, i love that about him. When we was talking to him i felt like i knew him for a long time already, feeling that i was so comfortable with him. I love the setup of the salon, the atmosphere we got, and the staff, they were more than perfect, we walked out looking like ROCKSTARS, because of them. Thankyou to Cody and Threasa and to the rest of the staff of Cobalt blue.
