Wonderful vet, caring staff...  4 Star Rating - Very good

I have been taking my animals to Dr. Thomas at the Rodeo Drive Animal Hospital for 15 years and I have never encountered an issue where I had any question as to her ability to treat my babies. During times of true crisis with my cats, she gave me her home telephone number. She really does seem to care about the animals she treats.

I can't say anything about the boarding facility, as I've never had a dog I had to board. I don't like the idea of boarding anyway. How lonely. But, I know there are times it is necessary...

The WORST Vet in Mesquite!  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

WARNING! Our experience with this vet and clinic was an absolute NIGHTMARE! Search Stempy Munson on the Internet to read the full story of what happened to our beloved little boy. We would NEVER recommend this "vet" to anyone with a pet. AVOID!

TERRIBLE vet  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Jennifer C., who are you to say "take the other reviews with a grain of salt'? Excuse me, but our dog DIED as a result of the "care" he received from this vet. Just because you have been extremely LUCKY, do not trivialize someone else's terrible experience. We would NEVER, under any circumstances, recommend this vet to anyone with a pet. Period.

Bad Vet Kennel Facility  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Rude, disorganized staff. Filthy kennels. Our dog was so stressed, some of her fur on her back actually turned gray. Her favorite toy also magically disappeared during her stay. Our dog's feet were wet upon return - don't believe our dogs were ever taken out of the kennel to go potty during their stay. Our dogs were returned to us severely traumatized. Need to board your dogs? I do not recommend this place! This reflects poorly on the vet, her staff, and the entire operation. Where was the compassion and care for our family members? AVOID!

Overcharged  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

This clinic tried charging me for things that were never done. Watch closely! I certainly would be very careful when using this clinic. Rude staff also when you catch them doing this. Bad!

Great vet in my experience  4 Star Rating - Very good

I used Dr. Thomas at Rodeo Drive Veterinary Hospital as my family vet for about 25 years. She helped me with the care of many cats in that time. She diagnosed a stray cat I brought in with Feline Leukemia and helped us keep him comfortable during his last weeks. She successfully treated the advanced gum disease in another stray that a neighbor moved away and left, until that cat was well into her adulthood. She was very good with this cat who was for all intents very feral and did not like confined spaces. I had a cat that developed diabetes and congestive heart failure when he was about 10 years old. She helped find the accurate dosage of aspirin for him and the right combination of heart medications to control his CHF for many years. His diabetes went away for about a year and a half and at first I was not aware he had lost his need for insulin until he got wobbly. I rushed him in and Dr. Thomas and her staff quickly got him back in good health. I had another cat who developed diabetes as well and he was a cage-rage kitty named Rocky. Let me tell you - he lived up to that name whenever he boarded and I was nowhere around. Dr. Thomas herself had to do everything during his boarding because he would spit and growl and hiss when someone came near his cage. After the first couple of times boarding she decided to try keeping him in her office bathroom which had more room and did not have a "cage" as a door. Apparently Rocky was pretty comfortable with that scenario and that was how she boarded him each time after that. Rocky was a very hard diabetic cat to keep regulated, but she hung in there with us and kept retesting sugars and changing the dosages as needed. Rocky also lost his need for insulin for a year and they had to do the quick save on him too, but luckily I was able to get him some honey before bringing him in since I was aware of what was going on. All the animals we had treated at Rodeo Drive lived into their late teens (except for the two strays who were around 7 and 10 respectively, when they passed). We moved away from Texas to Florida in 2002. Dr. Thomas was a wonderful caregiver to all our cats, even the hissy ones. Her staff was always wonderfully polite and helpful. For several years after we moved we continued to visit them again when we would return to town because we missed them. When I had a health question regarding one of my cats Dr. Thomas was always quick to return a phone call and even had me call her at home during the critical introductory times with the two diabetic cats. I'm sure Dr. Thomas has had a few failures in her extremely long career, as has any veterinarian or other medical doctor for that matter. In my experience, however, if she encountered a problem or situation that required a specialist, she referred you to one and did not attempt something on her own. Having said that I am sure there will always be an instance here and there where something might be missed or overlooked, or where a condition presents itself that could be any one of a number of things and every avenue cannot be checked out simultaneously. I would not hesitate to send future pets to Dr. Thomas or to refer friends or relatives to her with their pets (as I have done many times). I would still to this day contact her office if I had a question and was not comfortable with something my current vet was suggesting or just wanted a second opinion as to how to proceed. A long-time, happy customer with happy pets who loved Dr. Thomas and her staff. NOTE: I have worked in the medical field for years so I am very aware of what good care and bad care look like. This doctor consistently gives good care and keeps her rates reasonably priced for her clients. There will always be a couple of misses, but don't let that scare you away. Take a chance and see for yourself if this vet is right for you. You are always welcome to seek second opinions or go elsewhere if you don't feel it is a good fit.

GREAT vet  4 Star Rating - Very good

We have taken our pets to Dr. Thomas for well over 15 years and she has always been fabulous. I disagree with the other reviewers of her practice. Dr. Thomas and her staff have always been helpful and respectful of us as customers and of our pets as their patients.

The only thing I haven't been too "keen" on is boarding our pets there for long-term (when we go on vacation), only because it looks kinda lonely back there in the back.

Otherwise, please take the other reviews with a "grain of salt", to so speak. Dr. Thomas is a well-respected veterinarian. If she wasn't well-respected in the animal health community, then why would she have such a long-running (and crowded) and successful practice for these many years?

Avoid this "vet!"  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I have to agree with the previous reviewer who also rated one star. After taking our family pet to this vet, he seemed much worse. I got to looking online and came across some negative reviews. Did some research and knew this "vet" was just as incompetent as I had just read. Thank goodness I found the negative reviews. We were able to then immediately find another vet who was competent and no doubt saved his life! Avoid this vet!
