My dad brought a Corrola new in 2007 from Universal Toyota San Antonio TX. I was there when he brought the car and he also brought the tire warranty. Before he brought the tire warranty from the dealer they told us that if the tire is worn bring it in and we will replace it at no charge. I ask them about dry rotted and they said yes even dry rotted as long it is normal wear. Over all it was only $300 added and my dad and I thought it was a good deal. \r
I took about 10 days off at the end of December 2011 until the 4rd of January 2012. During that time I notice my dad's car tires are really dry rotted. Remembering the dealer saying that the tire was covered I plan to bring it in on the 3rd. I told my dad dont worry I will take care of it for him. When I took it to Universal Toyota they service person did not know much about the tire warranty, so I talked to Bud King the service manager. He looked at the tire and told be that it will be no problem to get new tires the only problem is the people that they get the tire from in Houston was close until the Jan 4th. I told him that I was not able to bring the car back myself that my dad would drive it back. At the same them I did not want my dad drive all the way to the dealer and they say that he cant get new tires. Bud told me that will not be a problem that he will take care of it him self. I told my dad to take it to the dealer tomorrow and ask for Bud King. When my dad took it in Bud told him that he can not get new tires because the treads were not worn enough and that the warranty dose not cover Dry rote. \r
This is what I have a problem with, Bud could have told me that when I was there and there would be no problem. Instead he told me that there will be no problem and it was a sure thing. The dealer dose not seem want to address this issue. My family has been a loyal customer to Toyota. My whole family own a Toyota myself brought a 2011 RAV4 last year. Why would a dealer sell us a tire warranty and then dont honor it? Is this they way Universal does business? If anything I fell my dad was cheated $300 when they sold they tire warranty to him. It is a rip off. My dad does not drive much he would never be able to use that warranty since they tire would dry rotted before the tire would wear enough. \r
Bud King need to be discipline and retrained. He should not have told a customer that they can do something then come back tell them that they can't. This is very wrong and was a waist of my time. Most importantly my dad's time. over all this was the worst service I ever had!\r
To sum up how bad of an experience I had today at Universal Toyota, I am more than willing buying a less perfect car then I could get there just so I do not support the salesman I had, Tony Rodriguez.
The door lock handle on my Camry broke and I called to see if they had the part. The parts dept never got back. Registered on the web site. Also no reply. Called twice, got an appt after then and though that was great. Usually go to VICTORY LANE AUTOMOTIVE (which is honest), but didn't think they could get the part by end of week and not open weekends, so went to the dealership. Never did that before and wont do that ever again. They estimated it would take an hour to fix. Over an hour later they hadn't even started the repair but took me back and recommended a brake job, transmission flush, coolant service, new wipers, new gasket cover, the list went on .... at that point I just stopped them and got my son who came with me. Was tech auto school trained 2 yrs. Looked at car. All unnecessary repairs. Coolant clean and full when popped cap, as was transmission fluid, (they didn't bother to assertain that these were done 15K ago!) gasket cover had drop of water on it, no dirt or oil (IN TX?!?) AND I just had the car inspected end of JULY. I got mad and told them to stop touching my car and just fix what I told them to fix. I would not buy a car from them as would not want them to service it and I will never use their service dept again.
I went to the service department for an unexpected repair during Labor Day (wife decided to see if the car would run on diesel fuel). I called Universal Toyota and happen to speak to Mr King (Service Director) about my problem. He helped me find a tow truck to pickup my car and once I arrived, he and Marshall took care of me quick. They gave me a couple of options for correcting the problem--saving me money in the process. The one thing that would have been nice is a courtesy car wash. I guess you have to ask for one and there is a charge. I've been to other Toyota dealerships that will run your car through the wash even if you just have an oil change done. In any case, aside from the problem my wife created--I was satisfied with the service I received from Universal Toyota. Gave only 4 stars because I felt I could have been given a free carwash after spending $500+ on service/repair.
From the time I walked into this horrible dealership I was lied to and cheated absolutely nothing was done correctly they messed up my registration and two days after the purchase when I complained about a loud abnormal noise in the car I was told that there was no noise that it was normal and that they weren't going to do anything about it everyone from the salesman to the general manager could care less that I had a problem they had there money and that was all they cared about. I did not find one person at Universal Toyota that anything about satisfying my complaints and in fact lied and wanted an additional $5.000. to fix a problem that should have been covered under warranty. Toyota's warranty is worthless it seems they just deny that there is any problem. It is no wonder that Car dealer are at the bottom of the food chain. This dealership is the worst.
I found a used Matrix I wanted on AutoTrader and called Universal around 9am to see if it was still available. The salesman, Roberto, assured me it was. Since Universal is a 1.5 hour drive for me and I had errands to run before I drove there (including applying for a car loan), I checked back with Roberto Souza periodically during the day to make sure the car was still there. Around 11am I double-checked AutoTrader and found that the listing I wanted had been removed. When I called Roberto, he again assured me the car was there - he said ""I can see it right now"".
After a long day of applying for loans and getting my insurance ready, I drove down to Universal with my boyfriend. I was excited, Roberto seemed nice (although a little too ""salesy""), and I wanted to be done with my car search. When we got into Roberto's office, he told us the car I had wanted was sold. My boyfriend and I were furious, but calm. We asked Roberto to tell us when the car had been sold - he never gave us that information. Instead, he attempted to upsell me ($4000 above my price-range) and kept saying ""You two are such a nice couple"". When he saw that we weren't going to fall for that (at this point we were staring daggers through him), he said ""wait here, I want to show you something."" I had a very bad feeling that things weren't going to go well. When he brought out a beat-up two-door sedan, that was it. We asked to speak to his manager immediately.
The manager, Brian something-or-other, was obviously shaken up. He could see that we were not going to leave without making sure there were consequences for the sketchy bait-and-switch Roberto had pulled...especially after driving all the way down there. Brian said he understood that we were upset and that what Roberto had done was not approved practice at Universal, but we could tell that he really just wanted to get us out of there and try to keep us quiet about the experience. He handed us $40 and had someone fill up our gas tank and said he would suspend Roberto (for how long? no idea).
I can't speak for the rest of the sales team, but this Roberto guy obviously isn't afraid to lie to get the sale. He is the kind of person who gives car salesmen a bad name. By the way, I ended up buying a car from a great saleswoman named Tiffini at Lief Johnson Ford instead.
Worst car buying experience. After thought are deal was done, was told congratualtions, multiple people called us and kept telling us we had to give them more money, buy more warrantys and other items from them. They were extremely rude and lied. Do not buy anything from them.
Don't buy from this dealership, I bought a used truck from this dealership 5 months ago with an extended warranty. I had the routine maint. required on this truck with a complete history, Long story short Universal Toyota has not fixed the Truck and when i talk to G.M. cust. service rep. she (Carolyn) said sorry we can't help you, I spoke with service manager ( Bud King) i recieved the same sorry, I spoke with the extended warranty co. ( Old Republic) they said the same thing sorry. 10,000 dollars used Truck, 1700 dollar extended warranty,2000 dollars down payment, 5 months later i am left with a broke Truck estimated repair cost 8,000 dollars for a new motor .... wow !!!!!! What a great dealership ........you do the math.... I wouldn't buy from these people ever again and i hope you think about buying from these people...\r
PS: I have hired a lawyer.... more money but it's worth it\r
We have now purchased two vehicles from Jose in the space of two years. Our experience with him has been fantastic! Most of our dealings with Jose have been over the phone since our time is precious. He is knowledgable over the entire product line and give you the straight story. Another of Jose's strong points is his service after the sale. When our son turns 16 in a couple of years we intend to be calling Jose again
I recently purchased a 2009 Highlander Sport from Universal Toyota and Manny Portillo. This is the second Highlander that Manny has sold us and each time the dealing with Manny has been the same. Manny is a true professional and easy to deal with. You will get no pressure from Manny trying to sell you something that you do not want. I have always found him to be honest and straight-talking. It was a pleasure buying this car from Manny.
The new Corolla we just leased is the second one with Shannon. To us, he is the perfect sales representative...good listener, interested, kind and a joy to work with...we just hope he is still there for the next round.
I have ben working with Jose Otero and did purchase a 2010 Highlander. Jose has been outstanding working with us. I had worked with him on a purchase in 2008 also. I could not have asked for a more pleasant, professional experience. I am 110% satisfied!! Based on my experience with Universal Toyota now and in 2008, I believe I'll be a long-time customer
My experience at Universal Toyota was satisfying as Jose Otero provided me with the information needed to make the right decision on choosing my vehicle. Mr Otero had the right personality/attitude to make me feel comfortable, which is not common in most car salesman. I would recommend Mr. Otero to any friends and family members when choosing to buy a vehicle. Thanks for your excellent service Jose!

Shannon was the most patient salesman I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. He made my car buying experience both relaxed and very fun. I asked for sporty and he took me to see the Scion tC. I loved it! It was like he could read my mind. Again, he was very patient and knowledgable. I highly recommend him! My sister and I had a great time shopping
I bought another new Toyota the other day, my third from Universal Toyota in less than a year and a half. Jose did a great job in explaining the differences between all of the models and he was patient with our test drives. He stayed until after 9pm just to complete the process. We will do business with Jose again
We thoroghly enjoyed dealing with Jose when we bought our new Scion. It is the second one we have owned and really love it. Jose was very helpful and we think he is a great guy--don't let him get away
Our recent experience with Curt Johnson was the most pleasurable car buying experience we have ever had. He is the utmost professional who painlessly led us step-by-step through the process. His demeanor was quite comforting and we are more than pleased with him and fully expect to buy more vehicles from him in years to come.
Curt was wonderful. My daughter is 16 and she had the best time joking around with him. He answered all of our questions, and really helped me to make an informed decision. He worked very hard to allow us to get this car for her and she LOVES it! She told him he was a superhero! Thanks Curt!
We give Curt Johnson very high marks for salesmanship. We are senior citizens and are not impressed with the razzle dazzle techniques used by some car salesmen. He listened to our request and found the car we wanted with the equipment we asked for and gave us a fair price on our trade-in. He helped us set up the Bluetooth feature on our car and showed us how to use the GPS. We are happy with the car and would recommend him to our friends and relatives.
I had a great purchase experience with Mr.Otero, he answered all my questions, always returned my calls very promptly.I will definitly refer him an dUniversal TOyota to anyone who asks about my new car. It is very hadr to find a dealership who will treat you with respect. \r
Shannon approached me one afternoon as my son and I walked towards the new Scions. His welcoming remarks were unlike any I've heard before--he was sincere, kind, and concerned about my desires. Shannon listened to me, asked appropriate questions, and always provided me clear options. I came prepared to purchase, received an excellent trade-in offer, paid the balance and departed with my perfect Scion xB. To top things off, he emailed me a picture of me and my xB (which I proudly shared with family and friends). Shannon has earned my future business!
I traded my Scion in for a Tundra with Jose Otero. This is our third new Toyota in 16 months using Jose. He is fantastic! Great customer service. We will be back to use Jose again; we will also recommend him to friends and family. Thank you.
