For the YOUNG..at Heart!

by Tyrrel G.

Lufkin Zoo has consistently been on top of my list for my personal recreation and for sharing with visiting friends and family for years. We actually fed and petted a baby jaguar once during a feeding time ! Photo opportunities abound with animals..peacocks, deer, giraffes in the backround. The wild cats are sooo close, all children (even if you're 80) are captivated by their proximity and behavior. What a bargain! What a treat! Adopt an animal or buy a brick for the walkway of memories. Have fun but know you'll be back for more...the otter or the hippos first....??? Yippee....

Love this Zoo!

by David P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,779

We LOVE zoos and have been all over TX and Louisiana and Lufkin Zoo is still by far our favorite. It isn't the biggest, but all the exhibits are well kept and you feel as though the animals are in a good environment instead of just being caged. We love that they have a train, snacks and tons of activities throughout the year for members! GREAT zoo for any city!

Fun, inexpensive way to spend a few hours in Lufkin

by Amy R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,491

The Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, TX is a nice way to kill a few hours while you are in town. The zoo has the usual assortment of birds, reptiles, and other small critters. It also has a very nice diplay of hippo's, giraffes, and bears.

The zoo is kept very clean and has a place to have a picnic lunch. They have tame peacocks running all around, which makes for some really neat pictures.

The admission is inexpensive (less than $4 for adults) and you can get unlimited admissions with a membership to the Friends of the Ellen Trout Zoo.

Outside the zoo is a small train that for a nominal fee will take you on a little ride around the zoo. Little kids LOVE this.

Feel Like Monkeying Around?

by Andrea G. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,330

If you ever feel like monkeying around you gotta check out this cute little zoo.

They've got it going on. The animals there are extremely active and its always a pleasure to take my family and friends. They even have a hippo and baby giraffe was born in Sept. Though it wasn't small. It was over 6 ft when it was born.

The prices are great! $3.00 for adults (12 and over). $1.50 for kids (4-11) and ages 3 and under are free.

Theres even a train ride you can go on for an addition fee.
