Capelli Salon

I've been going to Capelli for about 5 years and have never had a bad experience. Denerae is amazing. She always gives me the best cuts and/or color and if I go in and have no idea what I want, she works her magic! I've been to other salons and felt like I was treated like a nobody because I'm not a typical trendy place kind of gal. But these very cool and chic people made me feel so comfortable and I don't mind spending my money there, whether it's on the services or Bumble and Bumble products.

when it comes to my hair, i am ridiculously selective. before moving to austin two years ago, only three people had ever touched my hair in 26 years. i took a leap of faith and went to david @ capelli per the suggestion of a good friend; he is also pretty snobby, er, picky about his hair. i could not have made a better decision.

my first visit with david was to chop off 14 inches of my thick, curly brown hair (i'd been growing it for eight years and decided it was time for a change), and i felt bad for the poor guy for getting such a nutcase new client freaking out about losing so much hair. but he was sympathetic and encouraging and assured me he would give me a great new cut. and he most certainly did. i walked in with hair down to my butt, and walked out with a super cute shoulder length 'do. they also took care of the paperwork/procedure for donating my hair to locks of love.

i've been going to david ever since. he is an expert on how to cut curly hair (which is hard to find), and is great about listening to and doing what you are looking for. not to mention he's super fun - i always want to stay longer and talk to him :)

the salon is quaint and funky, and david has also gotten me addicted to its bumble & bumble products. i was a cynic who thought drugstore products did the trick just as well as the salon stuff, but using b&b has changed my opinion (and my hair) entirely. their curl conscious line is amazing, and is totally worth the price. and with the steal i get for my visits to the salon, it totally evens out. i pay far too little for the amazing service i get from david and capelli. i. love. this. place.

I am so glad I listened to all the reviews on citysearch! I just had my cut with Lisa today who is so sweet and amazing. She actually spent a good 10 mins or so with me just looking at my hair and talking to me about exactly what we were going to do. She really paid attention to my hair texture and what would work best for me, instead of just doing the same cut she did on someone last week. It was a great experience, go to Lisa she is fantastic and reasonably priced too! Win win all around and I love my new cut. I will definitely return to Lisa, give her a try!

I would like to recommend Lisa for any haircut, style or color for anyone. She did a fabulous job on my hair. The cut was awesome-probably the best I have had. The color was different because it wasn't all about the blonde highlights like I usually get. I really liked it. My boyfriend got his haircut from her and he absolutely loves it. I just moved here to Austin and have heard great reviews about Capelli. I thought I would give them a try. I heard great things about Lisa specifically so I booked an appointment with her. The atmosphere is awesome. It's relaxed and comfortable. They offer beverages too! Lisa gave me the best haircut and highlight I have ever had and I have been to many, many salons. She listened to what I wanted and gave me some great styling tips! Go see Lisa!

I have been going to this salon for over three years. The atmosphere is cozy and casual, yet chic, the central location is great, and the Bumble and Bumble products are the best I have ever used. The service is warm and friendly, and the stylists are all experienced and amazingly good at what they do. I highly recommend this salon.

Capelli just hasn't lived up to the CitySearch reviews. I had a salon I loved outside NYC and had previously had a great haircut that I wanted to copy. I brought in photos of myself and described in detail what I wanted, but my stylist didn't really pay much attention to what I'd asked for. I understand when a stylist makes suggestions or asks if she can tweak what you are asking for to suit your face or hair, but there was no discussion, just a different haircut than I'd asked for because it would be "better." It wasn't bad, but it wasn't an improvement over the old cut and it wasn't what I wanted. I was then blow-dried and curled into looking like an anchorwoman, much to the amusement of my boyfriend. I was also pressured to buy Bumble & Bumble products, which I stupidly did. They did nothing good for my hair and are outrageously expensive at full-price.

I continue to go there out of inertia. The cuts aren't bad and they aren't overly expensive, but I'd never trust them to do a big change or color. I now ignore all styling advice and flat iron out the absurd looking curls as soon as I get home. I've had some hideous haircuts in my lifetime, and don't want to risk going from good enough to awful in search of perfection. I've got long enough hair that the cut doesn't have to be particularly amazing for it to look good so until somebody with great hair who I trust recommends a particular salon/stylist, I'll continue to go to Capelli. But I wouldn't have started going if I'd known what a disappointment it would be after all these glowing reviews.

I recently relocated to austin and needed a new stylist to replace the one i loved in my old town. I was very close to her so she left big shoes to fill. A friend of mine mentioned that she knew an amazing stylist so I set up an appointment. Well needless to say, those very big shoes were filled after just my first visit with Ann. I went into capelli with no real directions to give Ann but she took my hair and gave me the best haircut I have ever had. She spent so much time with me making sure that it was exactly what I wanted and making sure that I would have no trouble maintaining it. I cannot recommend her enough. AMAZING stylist and truly one of the nicest people I have ever met!

This was my first time visiting this salon. I needed a haircut for an special event in 2 days and my other stylist had moved. I came after reading all of the recommendations on Citysearch and I was extremely disappointed. The haircut I received is very unflattering. It looks similar to Mrs. Brady. It has poufy layers on top and longer hair in the back, a sort of quasi-mullet if you will. I asked for long layers, long swoopy bangs, something saucy. I have fine hair with some wave in it and a very square jaw. It was as though she didn't look at my face or hair at all. The first layer falls at my ears, but the bulk of the layers fall right at my jaw line emphasizing it. This is the last thing you want when you have a square jaw. She cut my bangs too short. I had specifically asked that they not be too short, but she didn't listen. I said something to the effect that I wasn't happy with my cut (remember I have a VERY important event is 2 days). She replied, "why don't you live with it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel" because her next appointment was waiting. It's the next day and I feel ill. That's how I feel. It took 30 minutes and some hot rollers this morning and the best I could come up with was 80's soccer-mom helmet hair. I paid my money and even tipped, because that is what I do, but I wish I hadn't. I can't even really go and get it fixed because I have to wait for it to grow out first.

Everyone there was very nice but they don't consider the needs of the client. I would strongly advise that you not go there...unless you like looking like a mushroom.

This was my first time at Capelli. I got highlights and a cut from Randy. The highlights turned out a tad darker than expected but he took out the brassiness as I had asked for. I requested a haircut to suit specific needs and he gave me exactly what I wanted and made great suggestions. He listened intently, never once talked over me, spaced out or gave me any sense he was treating me like another customer to churn out. He is definitely a master at what he does. The best part is he is not cheap but reasonably priced and doesn't come with your typical "DIVA" Master Stylist attitude as some others at AVANT or Urban Groove. The salon is nice, there are several parking spots up front, the customer service was good and the entire experience was pleasant. I left feeling satisfied and confident with the new look.

Absolutely wonderful salon! I have been coming here for 3 years now with Randy as my stylist, and I couldn?t have asked for anyone more talented than he. Actually, all of the staff members are very talented, professional, and extremely friendly and accommodating. On a few occasions, I have had my hair cut by other stylists in the salon and they listen to your needs and style your hair exactly as you ask. They use only the best products, the atmosphere is very inviting and relaxing, and I have only had positive experiences here. I am leaving Austin and don't think I will find a salon as awesome as this one. It is truly a pleasure to come here, and I recommend Capelli Salon to EVERYONE, except for the people I don?t like. :) This place is worth every penny!

I moved to Austin about 3 years ago from NY and I was a huge fan of the Bumble and Bumble product line. So, when I needed a salon in Austin, I looked for a place that carried these products and were certified by B&B. I stumbled upon Capelli and got really lucky that Randy had a cancellation and could squeeze me into his schedule. Randy is amazing! I have recommended him to several of my friends and even random people at the grocery store that liked my highlights! I will never get my hair done anywhere else ever again! I have had great haircuts and highlights every time! Usually, I am pretty indecisive about what kind of cut/style/look I want and it is usually difficult for me to put it into words, but I let Randy kind of know what I am trying to go for and then I let him do whatever he wants with my hair and I trust that I will walk out with exactly what I want and look like a million bucks (and I do!). I have friends that go to other stylists at Capelli as well and they have all had great experiences. If you are looking to try a new salon or change things up a bit, I highly recommend checking out Capelli!

I made an appointment at Capelli with Randy based on the number of detailed positive comments I found on CitySearch. I wasn't disappointed! I've been making the rounds of a handful of salons since moving to Central Texas a few years ago and just didn't find a place that clicked, but Capelli feels like the one for me. Everyone there is so friendly and Randy really listened to what I wanted in a hairstyle. His suggestions resulted in a style that lives and works well with me! I almost don't want to leave such a good review because that will make it harder to get an appointment...

I just moved to Austin recently and have never had my hair cut anywhere except when I was "home". After researching places on Citysearch I found Capelli. They got me in within a week and Ann was wonderful! I got about 12" cut off and really had no specific idea of what I wanted. I took in some photos and told her in general what I wanted and my hair is great! She spent over an hour on the cut alone and the price was awesome. I can't believe I love my short, short hair so much!! I HIGHLY recommend the salon.

Before finding Randy at Capelli, I bounced around from salon to salon. I couldn't find a stylist who could do the same thing with cut and color twice! Randy does a great job every time, no surprises. And when I do want a change he really listens. Everyone at Capelli is friendly and considerate, and I have referred many friends to this Salon and will continue to do so!

I just moved here from out of state and found Capelli on city search. Since they had such great reviews I thought I'd try them out. I called in and they gave me an appointment with April. The Atmosphere was relaxing. Everyone was so friendly. I got a color and cut with April and she Rocks! The color came out beautiful. She did exactly what I asked for. And my cut is perfect! A co-worker recommended David at Capelli Salon to me. I have naturally curly hair and few people have ever been able to cut it right. I was also looking for a color change and wanted to go red again. David listened to me carefully and studied my hair. When he brought out the color book, he suggested a red and I pointed to something else. He explained why what I wanted wouldn't work for my pale skin, so I let him do his magic.

The color is absolutely fabulous! I've had a ton of compliments and honest to goodness, it looks completely natural on me!!! And I have I mentioned the CUT???

My cut is so wonderful... it's feminine with an edge, soft and pretty... it totally rocks and my hair has never had a cut so perfect. It suits my hair, my face and my curl. He didn't push product on me and gave me some good suggestions. I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror... and never once did I want to run my hands through it and mess it up.

The cost was well within my tight budget for hair and color, and I splurged on some curl creme. I can't say enough wonderful things about my experience there!

I love the salon and my hairstylist, Randy. I gave up on my hair after having my baby three years ago, but now I love my color and style. My stylist never disappoints me when recommending something new that will work for my hair type and lifestyle. Randy Rankin has been doing my hair for over 9 years. He is the best at color and haircuts. I searched for a stylist for over 5 years in Austin before finding Randy. He is amazing with color ! A friend recommended I visit Randy for a color (highlights) and cut and I am thrilled I took her advice! Randy is very friendly and easy to talk to, and did a fantastic job on my hair. I had applied my own highlights at home a few months prior and wanted a more professional look, and he pulled it off beautifully with highlights and a few lowlights- it looks so natural and fresh and totally brightened my appearance! The cut was great too- I stress out when I see a new stylist because many don't know how to cut my naturally straight and fine hair- when I ask for layers many times it turns into a disaster- but Randy did exactly what I wanted- soft, blendable layers that are easy for me to style on my own! I highly recommend him and this salon!

I've been going to Capelli for cut and color for 2+ years. I love Randy and I always walk out of the salon feeling like a million bucks! Capelli Salon is the best in town. The stylist are well traiined and experienced and very friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you will immediately feel at home. Randy recently helped me overcome the "bad haircut of 2006" from another salon. I felt 100% better after walking out the door and now only put my trust in Capelli! I highly recommend them.

I saw Ann at Capelli's and she gave me beautiful highlights and a wonderful haircut. She followed exactly what I wanted but also suggested some great ideas too. Another perk of the salon is that they serve mimosas and pastries on Saturdays! What a great experience, from the warm receptionist to the talented stylists and the free drinks. I've been searching for the "perfect-for-me" salon/stylist since I moved to Austin in 2005. I finally found both! Capelli's staff made me feel very welcome and comfortable. Ann looked at the pictures I brought of the haircut I wanted, discussed it with me in-depth, then gave me everything I was looking for and more! She knew exactly what she was doing and I had absolute confidence in her. She was also very friendly and conversational. A real class act! Visit this salon for VIP treatment and great results - you will walk out of there looking your very best.

As a college student you want to find a place that does an amazing job on your hair without spending all the money in your bank account. I loved this place. It's so cute. The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff is amazing. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by some great people. It seems like the clients know all of the people that work there. On top of all of this, I had a wonderful haircuit. Denerae did exactly what i wanted and it turned out amazing. I LOVE my hair, and I plan to return. Capelli's is one of the best salons in Austin. It's a great way to start a weekend. The owner, Randy, is very attentive. Mimosa's and pastries are available, and then you can swing over to Kerbey Lane Cafe afterwards. I have been going there for 2+ years and have never had anything less than a exceptional experience.

I know every girl dreads having her hair "done." Those were my thoughts and I really lost sleep over trying to find someone to create my look for my wedding this past June. David was amazing. Not only did he listen to what I really wanted, he was patient, so talented, and extremely accomodating. I have never loved my hair more, honestly. I even slept in it and tried to wear it the next day, David --you're amazing! I think I will be flying from San Francisco to Austin just to go to you! He's a don't pass up ladies and gents!

Ever since I was little, I have always wanted long, thick hair.
And, now, thanks to Nicole A., Capelli's new just-in-from-LA stylist, I have it: Long, thick hair.
Nicole has been in LA, working feature film and commercials, and she was amazing.
She matched my hair absolutely perfectly and had a hands down the best technique for putting them in. Nicole sews them in as tiny braids. Which is the best way of putting them in. Other techniques are glue and sewing big strips, not so good for the health of your hair.
Hair extensions are like push up bras for your hair, everything just looks bigger and better. Thank you Nicole for my long, thick beautiful hair.

Randy is perfect. I hate messing with salons and am on a tight budget. Randy listens to what I want and just does it! He knows I can't afford to buy salon products but he's professional enough to tell me about them without ever making me feel pressured. He treats me with respect and never rushes my haircut and never makes me feel other than the most important customer he has. At Capelli -- they are terrific, friendly, professional and just plain nice. And Randy does great haircuts!

I went to Capelli for the first time yesterday, and I just love, love, love Nicole! I took in a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like, and she did an awesome job. You can really tell that she is very experienced and knows what she is doing. Believe me, I've been to many stylists who are unsure of themselves, and my hair ends up looking nothing like the picture. She just moved here from LA, so she is very up-to-date on the current trends, and she is also so sweet and friendly. I'll definitely be referring all of my girlfriends!

Last year my wife got crazy and cut her long hair into a short Tinkerbell type cut. I thought it looked great but she has regretted it ever since once it grew out enough, began looking for a place to have extensions done. Most places we looked were too expensive or the finished product looked fake. My wife's friend said that the salon where she goes (Capelli) just hired a girl (Nicole) from Los Angeles that did hair for movies and TV and she does extensions. I dropped Michelle off and when I picked her up it seriously looked like I had traveled back in time. Her hair looked exactly the same as it had when it was long. I normally don't give this kind of feedback but it made my wife so happy I wanted to take the time to thank Nicole and Capelli for a job well done.

I moved to Texas about 8 months ago and had been petrified to find a new hairdresser, I ended up just scheduling my trips home around my hair!!! I finally gave in and used citysearch to find a salon. Capelli had receieved great reviews so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm so happy I did, everything was great, from the time I called to schedule the appt,to the time I left having spent a lot less than I expected!!!! I highly recommend David- he listened to what I wanted and made some great suggestions, and he didn't mind me babbling on about my career and my neurosis around finding a new hair stylist. I will definately go back !!!!

When I first moved to Austin 5 years ago, I tried a few of Austin's "top" salons. I was so disappointed, and I actually drove 7 hours back home to get my next few cuts and hi-lights. A friend recommended Randy, and I'll NEVER change. People think I am a natural blonde!!! That's pretty impressive!! My former hairdresser back home even compliments my hair. The last time my mom came to visit, she even had her hair cut and colored at Capelli's!!

I have always felt like I am part of the family when I walk in the door. No matter who is sitting at the front desk I am greeted by name and asked if there is anything that they can get me to drink.
In the past I had a fear of getting my hair cut and colored and Randy has helped me to over come that fear. He is very good at giving advice of what would look good and how to go about getting that style. Randy is also open to suggestions on what I think looks good or something that I want to try.
I highly recommend Capelli to anyone looking for a new place to go.

For years, I switched hairdressers and salons looking for one that I loved. Now I have found that at Capelli's Salon, and I definitely won't be going anywhere else. They do an excellent job with both color and cuts. You feel completely comfortable the minute they call you to confirm your appointment to the time that you leave.
