I'm surprised to see all the bad reviews. I had the mahi mahi tacos and I LOVED them!! My husband's mole was really yummy and the salsa was great. Our server was very friendly but not great at keeping our waters filled or getting our check. He did give us a plate of all the different moles and they were delicious. We also got a buy 1 get 1 free coupon so it was very inexpensive. Overall the atmosphere is fun, my food was delicious, the portions were large and it was decently priced.

I'm not aligned with the previous reviewers- I thought ht efood was good, nice flvor, but not anything particularly special. I've had better Mexican for sure - though those places were in Chicago and the Dallas area, so maybe this is really good Mexican for SLC, that is possible. Prices were very reasonable and I would go back again, but its not a destination for me.

I was reluctant to visit the Blue Iguana because it was downtown and felt getting there would be a hassle. Was I wrong! Easy to get to and some of the best Mexican food I have had in a long time. Highly recommend and I plan on eating here over and over.

This is the best Mexican food in Salt Lake County. They have tables crammed in every corner of the building and they still need more room! Everything is fantastic. My husband like the mole and i got the tostadas. So good! I even liked it and i was pregnant. the chips and salsa were ok, the salsa tastes great, it was just a little runny.

When I first visited this restraunt I thought it sounded interesting. I noticed Britney Spears signed a picture behind their desk that says "The Blue Iguana ROCKS". I laughed at this until I tasted their Asada Tacos. WOW! These were impressive! The price is about the same as fast food, but you get restraunt style tacos made to perfection. I love this place and have returned many times since. Be sure to check them out because you will not regret it.

PROS: Excellent service, food, prices
CONS: Absolutely None

Love the moles. Chili Colorada is great! Son's in law always try the giant burrito. They've never finished it, it is huge. A family favorite.

I love this place and go here all the time. I always try to get Carlos as my waiter because he is my favorite and the best server. The only con I can think about this place is that some of the other servers are not as friendly....food is awesome and I love how you never have to wait that long!

We love Blue Iguana! It is a family favorite! We visit there frequently. My husband loves the chicken enchiladas and I'm a fan of the Carnitas tacos. If you love pork, you have to try those tacos! Highly recommend it!

Good food, and one of the best Mexican Food places we've found so far. We're new to SLC and still searching for the best restaurants.

Blue Iguana has a good menu, not to crowded and several great choices if you're into mole sauces.

Give it a try.

I have been looking for good vegetarian dishes wherever I can find them, and this restaurant's veggie burrito was great. The taco "salad" is half meat, one-quarter shell and condiments, and one-quarter fresh. I would have preferred an actual salad. But getting the veggie burrito mended everything. Me and the Blue Iguana are good now.

the wait to get in on a Friday night wasn't as bad as it looked. I ordered the " blue iguana" plate and was given enough food for 2 people for only $14. Salsa was a nice flavor without burning your mouth. The chile rellano was made with fresh chiles. The whole platter was smothered with cheese that would strong from your plate to your fork as you lifted it to your mouth. They had an award on the wall claiming the best margarita in the city and I have to agree. I will definately return.

We love Red Iguana and thought we would try the Blue Iguana. The service was severely lacking. We had to ask for a kids menu, had to ask for drinks and re-ask when one was forgotten. The restaurant was empty and while the food came quickly, we waited for a check and finally just went to the counter to pay. The food was mediocre at best, I assume that it was just all frozen and reheated, no real flavor. The margarita was good, but can you really mess up a margarita?

Save your money for the Red Iguana. There is no need to waste time at this restaurant. I'm even disappointed that I had to give this place 1 star.

The food was OK. The Salsa's were hot, but not really the fresh kind I expected for such a highly rated mexican place. The Pork dish I had was not good, but the other more standard selections that the others had were fine. This was similar to a Chevy's or a mexican chain restaurant. I have found some Taquira places in Murray that were better.

I went to the Blue Iguana a little while ago because I'd received a gift certificate. I frequent the Red Iguana a lot and hoped the Blue Iguana would be just as good. It wasn't even close. Very average forgettable food, nothing near the quality of the Red Iguana. Wouldn't bother going here again, there are a lot of Mexican restaurants out there with better food that aren't as much of a hassle to go to .

I always enjoy my trips to the Blue Iguana when I'm able to find a buy-one-get-one-free coupon in the paper. The food at the Blue Iguana is almost as good as the food at the Red Iguana, and there is always a significantly shorter wait for a table. The ambience is a little bit nicer than the Red Iguana, but the service has always been poorer in my experience. Waiters will never separate checks, and they won't accept multiple cards for payment. Not usually a huge issue, but it makes it frustrating when you want to dine with larger groups of people or business associates. The chips and salsa are great, the Horchata sweet, the mole rich and complex. You'll be back for more!

We found a coupon in the paper for "buy one get one free" and went to check it out. The food was good, the service was good, but do not ask them to split a check for you. We were so harrased about splitting a check for 4 people (they refused) that we will never go back. Why would you spend the money to put coupons in the paper only to make people mad and send them off to let everyone know what a bad experience it was?

When I first visited the Blue Iguana I was surprised to see a variety of Moles on the menu. I rarely see Mole on a restaurant menu, so I order it whenever I get the chance. Each time I have tried a different one at Blue Iguana I have been pleased. Not only is the food and service great, but you get to hear strolling guitar and singers. I love to surprise out of town visitors with Blue Iguana, because it is a dining experience not just a meal.

My father showed me the comments on your website about how Blue Iguana has bad food and bad service. We are regular customers of Blue Iguana and love it. He said that I should put my experience on City Search since it is entirely different. I am 16 years old and have been going to Blue Iguana for about 9 years. During this time, I have taken a lot of my friends and their parents and they all love it. We have never experienced bad service. And, the food is never bland. My favorite is the chicken enchiladas with extra, extra cheese. Some of my friends would rather have American food and they like the fact that Blue Iguana has a kids menu with chicken fingers, French fries, mini-hamburgers, corn dogs and hot dogs. I eat American food sometimes too. It is way better than drive-through. Some of my friends are in my Spanish class at school and we like the fact that the staff will talk with us in Spanish and help us with pronunciation. Even the manager sometimes comes over and jokes with us in Spanish. One time my entire Spanish class went to lunch at Blue Iguana and everything was done in Spanish. We ordered in Spanish, talked with each other in Spanish and our teacher talked with us in Spanish. I learned a lot that day and would love to do it again. THE BLUE IGUANA ROCKS!

The restaurant was packed when we walked down the stairs to the front door. A couple of our group wanted to find somewhere else but the guy that suggested this place assured us it was well worth the wait. We waited about fifteen minutes before we were seated. We did not mind since were able to immediately purchase one of the best margaritas I have ever tasted. The host showed us to our table and helped us get seated comfortably, even moving the table and chairs around before he left. A staff member poured us glasses of water and put chips and salsa on the table just as we got seated. Drink orders were taken almost immediately and our order of guacomole came a few minutes later with our drinks. During the entire meal, our server was attentive and professional. I was very impressed with the high level of service, especially considering how packed the place was. Our food came out hot and timely. I had the Blue Iguana plate & others had enchalidas, tacos, etc. I tasted them all. This is undoubtedly the best Mexican food any of us have eaten. We all agreed that the sauces, cheeses, beans and rice were exceptional. The salsa was thick, flavorful and habit-forming. Our server brought us a mole sampler plate with black, red, yellow and brown moles swirled around in a pattern. I had not tried a mole but had heard of it. They were surprisingly delicious. One of our group had steak tips covered in a yellow mole and the taste blew me away. (I went back and had it the next day for lunch.) Several members of our group took some of their large portion back to the room. Every single member of that group ate at the Blue Iguana again before leaving town, most introducing it to others. It is an absolute gem to find here in the center of down town. No-chain food here. I live in Park City and don't usually come down to Salt Lake except for the OR convention twice a year. I will be coming down a lot more often unless a Blue Iguana opens in Park City.

After living here 9 years now my husband and I finally broke down and traveled away from the comfort of our Draper Home to explore an oppportunity for "authentic" Mexican Food.
We walked in on a Friday evening around 7PM and was offered a table right by the door and asked if it was okay? I stated that no, it wasnt and that this was our very first time at this restaurant. Things were rearranged and we were seated towards the back of the restaurant. Before the greeter could even seat us, the waitress/water runner was on us and had water poured almost immediately. I thought to my self that maybe the service would be awesome here and that all would be well. Well, that was shortlived so I went on to deciding on which item to order. I chose the combo fajitas. Bad choice! They came out sizzling but from then on, the food was awful and bland. Honestly, that could have been tolerated except taht my husbands food was just as bland as ours. To get a refill on my "bottomless" soda; I had to ask for every refill. Attention was not given to us or to our taste buds. Not a good exerience at all; Where is the Southern Hospitatility???? That's what I would love to instill in the UT market.

Convenient downtown location but offering rather dull versions of Mexican Cuisine. I have traveled and eaten in many cities and pueblos throughout Mexico and with the many Mexican restaurants in SLC I will not return to this one. Nothing was overly bad, it's just that nothing was overly good.

I've been there several times. I love it and last time I went was last weekend on Sunday we were a group of 20!!! Everyone liked it there was no complain by anyone, the best part is that you get great portion for a reasonable price. The food and service is great and it's clean. I recommend it!

The service here is terrible, it took 20 mintues to get napkins to clean up spilled water that had been dripping on someone's lap. The waiter almost spilled food in my lap and to save the plate I burned my hands. They don't split up checks, but they will split up parties if they are too big (ours was 11) and they make you add up your own totals including tax if you want to put the check on different cards. They question low tips due to this terrible service and question someone who wants to drink a glass of wine (telling them they shouldn't be drinking at all even though they are of age and the waiter saw proper id). There are plenty other places that are better than this and actually care about their customers.

I kept hearing how great Blue Iguana was so a group of us decided to go. Not only did they refuse to seat us until our whole group of 8 arrived (there were empty tables too), they were rude and we were basically ignored if we asked a question. Our group walked out and went to Cafe Pierpont, where the staff is friendly and responsive.

Downtown, down an alleyway and then down some stairs lurks the Blue Iguana.

The restaurant is normally pretty busy and can be teeming on a weekend evening. Over the years we have been visiting it has never been clear if they take reservations or not. I get the feeling some weeks they do and some weeks they don't. Either way, you never need to wait too long to be seated. The turnaround of tables is pretty fast.

The restaurant itself is bright and vibrant and a little cramped on the busier nights. Come on a weekend night and you will be treated to the tableside acoustic perormances of an older mexican couple. This can be either a) fun if in the party mood and/or in a larger group or b) 'oh my god hide me now' if your feeling particularly low key.

Food is the general run of the mill tex mex fare. They have a handful of more authentic mole style dishes. I have never tried these personally as they aren't to my taste (chocolate and nut based).

The food I have tried differs wildly on varying visits. Some nights the food is spot on and very enjoyable. Other nights it can be the polar opposite. I have never tested the theory, but I'd bet you would get more luck earlier in the evening or on a quiter night when the kitchen isn't as swamped.

Servings here are particularly stomach busting. Most plates come with the standard rice beans and salad. Not to mention the pre-meal chips and salsa free of charge. I don't ever recall anyone I have dined with here leaving hungry.

Also worthy of a mention is the fact that they validate for the parking garage out front. That coupled with the array of 'buy one get one free vouchers' in the local press such as the city weekly can make for a very cheap meal out. A meal for two with a beer can be as low as $20 or so with tax and tip.

I'm a picky person. I don't like spicy, I don't like most vegetables, I don't like a lot of things, and I have never really liked Mexican food. I like Blue Iguana, though! This has become a regular dinner spot for us when we're in the mood for authentic Mexican food.

They have a broad array of moles, when most places only have one or two. I generally get the pumpkin/cinnamon one, and my husband gets the mole negro. We've had a little of everything from their menu - chili colorado, enchiladas, carne asada, etc.

The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that they put chocolate sauce on their flan. But now I know ask to hold the chocolate!

We also have eaten there with a group of 9 people, so it can accomidate groups!

Pros: great environment, clean, friendly

Cons: Street parking

I went to the Blue Iguana with a friend for lunch and had an enjoyable experience. The food was good, and I really like the location and decor of the building. Service was average.

The meat from the fajitas I ordered was burnt and leathery. I expected a bigger portion for the price. The burrito my husband ordered was bland tasting. The margaritas were not that good either. They also would not give us seperate checks which I found really irritating. We had to wait about 20 minutes at the register for them to seperate the charges since we went with friends. We won't be returning.

We went with friends last weekend and were not impressed at all. The food was not very good at all. I guess if you like moles it might be good, we asked for a sample before ordering because we weren't familiar with them, none of us liked them, they're sweet and we didn't care for them. My husband had a big platter of several things and said it was ok and he usually loves Mexican food. I had enchiladas and they were pretty bland till I put some salsa on them. The enchilada sauce was not good.

I noticed on their ad it says they 'Specialize in Margarita's'. That really makes me laugh because their margaritas are terrible!!! The worst I've ever had.

Also, they wouldn't give us seperate checks which was annoying.

Take it from a former Angeleno, this is one of the best Mexican places in all of the Southwest. The decor is simple, but don't let that scare you off. The moles are superbly crafted and full of rich flavors. The Tex-Mex standbys are good too-- especially the fajitas-- but that's not why you come here.

Blue Iguana has some of the BEST mole in town. The waitress was fabulous. My mother and I could not decide which mole to order, so she brought out a sample plate with all of them for us to try. The mole verde and poblano were SO good. I would highly recomment all of them. The food here is authentic and extremely tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good mexican.

I had read about this place on CitySearch and thought I'd give it a try. Food was ok. Service was LOUSY. Saw my waitress all of two times. Had to track her down to pay. Bathrooms were scary. You could say it was authentic, just like eating in a Mexico border town restaurant. The only good part was the frosty mug to pour my beer. Other than that, I won't eat there again. Try the Benihana upstairs.

I love the food at the Blue Iguana! I took a friend who had never been there before and she loved it just as much as I do. The atmosphere is nice and the food selection is varied enough to keep me coming back and trying something new each time.

This place boasts being one of the few places in Salt Lake that is open much later than ten o'clock at night. The meximocha was wonderful, the food was really great, but the service was lacking. This place is great if you love that neighborhood restraunt ambience. This place is very laid back, and it's great that there is a place that serves decent food other than Denny's at the later hours of the night. My only objection to this place is having to flag down the wait staff three times when you're the only customer in the store.

This is some of the best Mexican food in the city. Mole dishes are particularly good and the margaritas are fabulous. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Service is gracious and friendly, even at lunchtime when it can get quite crowded.
