Les Madeleines

This bakery is excellent. The options are unique and interesting and taste delicious and the staff is friendly. However, if you want this type of food you might be waiting for a while. It is a very popular spot, especially on the weekends. Everytime I have been there, there has been a long line at the counter. But I can guarantee you it is worth the wait. Try the Kouing Aman, you won't be disappointed!

A terrific new bakery-cafe on State near downtown. The baker is French-trained and knows her stuff. The croissants are made with real French butter and are melt in your mouth quality. The chocolate cupcakes are divine. Coffee is brewed fresh and the tables inside are small and quaint, as if you were actually hanging out in a little Parisian cafe. You can't miss with the plethora of croissants--almond, custard, plain.. they're all there. There's plenty of other goodies to explore too. Just try not to feel guilty in what you eat because Les Madeleines takes no shortcuts! My only qualm is that Les Madeleines is closed Sundays, a maddening trend we must deal with here in SLC. It's a travesty that a bakery of this quality would miss out on what usually is the busiest day of the week in other metro regions. But it's still a can't miss locale if baked goods are your pleasure.
