Just don't go there when some guy named John is working. If you are new and sit in a booth, he is too busy to wait on you as he regals his golf stories to the regulars, And if you bychance say something he disagrees with, you might as well get up and go someplace else. Otherwise, it is an alright place.

when i was younger we would go to a different Bar nightly , we would always go to Bongo lounge on thurs. and Sun. nite it was Bongo night , so fun back in the day , always a fun party !!!! people think that Salt lake City doesn't party ?? they are wrong , like i said we would go to a different bar every night , of course this was in the 80s when you could bring your own Bottle !!!!you paid for pitchers or what they called set ups , which was whatever kind of mixer you wanted with your brown bag .awesome 80s at the bongo lounge !!!!
Pros: thurs. - sun. nite
I expect most people who drink in Utah already know about the Bongo. When I mention the Bongo in converrsation I often see that twinkle in peoples eye and invariably they have a tale.
Or three.
The Bongo is a relativaly small local bar. The drinks are priced rock bottom. Really this cannot be overstated. I have been seriously gouged in some places in Utah to enjoy a few drinks. Not so the Bongo. Steins of American beers can start from $2, all week long...
The bar attracts a regular crowd from all over SLC, young and old. Everyone is friendly and relaxed. They have some great friendly bar tenders who are worth a visit by themselves.
They typicaly show most of the main sporting events on various big screens and have pool, a few video games and a darts board to while away the evening over a few cold steins.
Pros: Cheap drinks, did I mention the cheap drinks?
Cons: If you don't like smoke, beware
The Bongo is a good neighborhood bar, and having moved to the neighborhood, I find myself going there a lot now. The drinks are very cheap. It's very smokey. It's almost like leaving Utah, for a minute. My British family all love it. It's certainly not fancy or chic. People definitely don't go there to be seen. The crowd ranges in age from 21 to 91, and everyone seems to get along well. The service is friendly and efficient. This is a drinker's bar, not a Paris Hilton partier's type bar.
Pros: Cheap drinks! I can walk there.
Cons: Smokey (may be a pro these days).
At the Bongo you won't have to wait long to get a drink. With a great crowd of regulars and bartenders that know what they're doing, you are sure to have a good time at the Bongo. I make it their once a week and thoroughly enjoy it.
