Great Tibetan home cooking in a family-owned neighborhood business. Owners are always there. Good food, good service, low prices, many vegetarian options.

I was suspicious of this place at first, but my boyfriend and I kept getting recommendations to go so finally one day we walked down there and tried it. I wasn't impressed when we first entered because the atmosphere isn't the shiny and sleek that I'm used to. I was even more suspicious when I read the menu and found that all my American tastes weren't finding what I was looking for. Also, my coke came in a bottle, I was very surprised by this.

But once I ordered their spinach and tofu curry and took the first bite I was hooked. Their taste profile made everything else melt away. I've also tried their Singapore noodle dish with tofu and although sweet, I loved it. I have also heard that they have great momos, but to ask for them to be fried instead of steamed. I can't wait to go back!

The staff, which seems to be the owners, is amazing. I love that every time I go back it is the same people that I see. I would highly recommend this place if food and taste are your main interests. If you are just looking for a nice atmosphere with bland and tasteless food, go somewhere else.

You've got to try the Cafe Shambala--especially the lunch buffet (spicy potatos and veggie mo-mos are my favorite!). Mo-Mos are filled pastrys, like huge ravioli. Cozy, fun Avenues eatery where the owners cook, wait tables and wash dishes. Your money stays local!

I try to bring my out-of-town guests to Shambala and steer my business lunches in that direction. Even if you just want to sit and chat, order a Tibetan sweet tea--very good.

Pros: Great, authentic food; sole proprietorship; cozy atmosphere

Cons: A little tough to get there on a bicycle!

Walk in, grab a plate, and load up! The chicken is amazing, great rice, dumplings, fantastic lo mein noodles, spicy potatoes, and veggies. Parking can be bad sometimes because this shop is in the avenues, but never farther than half a block walk.

My wife and I are vegan and tried out Cafe Shambala's lunch buffet (they serve non-vegan items as well). It was absolutely fantastic! The service was excellent and a great crowd. We will be eating here every chance we get.

Quite decent food, and VERY cheap. These people work hard and have good quality control. The buffet is a particularly good value. The steamed momo is divine.

I would like to highly reccommend Cafe Shambala. This is a cafe in the avenues, that serves Tibetan food. Everything is always a great value , especially for the amount of food you are getting. Everything always tastes fresh, and delicious!
