Cafe Med has been a favorite of ours for the last couple of years. They have great Greek and Mediterranean food that is of a good quality and has a great taste. It is a smaller restaurant, so during busy times there might be a bit of a wait, but its worth it. The servers are friendly and know about the items on there menu. The one negative thing is that there prices have gone up slightly since we started going there. With the economy this is to be expected, but we do have to go there less with the price increase. Overall this is a great and unique restaurant that is sure to please your appetite.

Strange non authentic, random decor inside and out. Our booth had seen better days, as we had to shove the cushion filling back in to sit. The humus tasted like it came out of a can, the same can be said for the dolmas. The shrimp dish was overpriced and served with a few extra small shrimp, and the saffron sauce had a strange taste. We didn't try the kabob which some people seem to like, but I doubt I would go back to try it.

Pros: Eggplant and Dill Rice

Cons: Rundown, poor quality middle eastern food!

Where have you gone, Cafe Med? You used to be such a nice place. Several years ago I would be greeted warmly and treated nicely. On your bad days I may have to had to wait a little longer for service or a table, but you were always courteous. Now, even on a typical night I waited fifteen minutes before our server even came to us. This happened twice in the last three times (and trust me, they represent the LAST time I will go to your restaurant). The last time - barely last week, we were seated and we waited. We waited and waited and waited until we asked the busser where our waitress was. We watched him go back - get our waitress who peaked behind the partition and sort of gave a face when told we needed service.

The waitress was not familiar with the menu - not familiar with how to pronounce the dishes. We ordered drinks, hummus, and dinner with salads and sat back. Hummus came, no salads. No waitress. Meals came. Mine was cold and bland. I usually love their Moussaka as it is usually very flavorful. This looked like something Gordon Ramsey would center an entire show around how to avoid. I'm not sure if it was just prepared a long time before it was cooked or cooked a long time before it was served. Either way it did not represent the quality of food that I remembered.

Then the salads came. More excuses as to why they didn't come before the meal. I really don't care WHY you failed to do your job. But blaming it on anyone but YOURSELF is tacky! Then she had to get the right dressing. Then we got to wait another ten to fifteen minutes for the check.

This place used to be great - it used to be somewhere I loved to experience. What happened?!

Pros: A past history of great food

Cons: A current 2/3 record of really horrible food/service.

When we first got to Cafe Med the hostess was very nice and helpful. However we waited at our table for more then 10 minutes until another waiter (not the moron we would be stuck with) asked us if we needed menus. another 5 minutes and our waiter asked us if we wanted anything to drink. After ordering our appetizer and food got to us in a timely manner, but getting that waiter to even look at us with something other then utter disdain was difficult as was trying to get him to stop to refill our glasses or give us our check. Needless to say we left no tip for the shlop.

Despite this sub-standard creaton of a waiter. The food was excellent and is worth wading through the poor service. Our appetizer almost a meal within itself. The rice was cooked to perfection and the meat, delectable. My wife had the curry pasta which really had a rich and full flavor and just enough kick.

At the end I had to stand up and actually grab our waiter by the arm as he had ignored us by passing by our table several times as I tried to hail him.

All in all our experence with our brain dead waiter didn't ruin the evening, and we'll probably go back for the food but if we get our bald self-absorbed waiter next time we'll be asking for a new table and waiter.

Pros: Amazing food and a wide range of interisting selection of dishes make choosing a delight

Cons: Poor service and a cheep decor

I always have a new favorite when I eat at the Cafe Med. Everything is delicious, and the portions are large. I usually get to take some home for later. If you are looking for something different & delicious, I recommend trying the Cafe Med!! I loved it!

Pros: Excellent Food, Large Portions, Lots of Choices

So to preface this review, I have had a fair amount of Mediterranean food. Not a great amount, but I have sampled a good many dishes from restaurants both in and out of the state. This was by far the worst I have been too. The servers, while friendly were not professional, which is not a huge problem, but it should be known. The food was horrible. I ordered the moussaka and the ground beef tasted like a cheap hamburger ground up, and the supposed lamb was nowhere to be seen. The falafel patties were ok, but again, not great. The whole time we were dining, some guy (they wouldn't let me type the word I originally selected) was on the phone talking to various people loudly and obnoxiously. He kept claiming to be a friend of the chef, who later confirmed this claim by coming out and chatting with the gentleman. No one ever told the man he should hang up the phone, even though all the tables around him hurried and left. I would recommend Mazza to anyone looking for a good Middle Eastern meal.

Pros: The falafels were alright, and there was potential for a decent restaurant.

Cons: everything else. Service, food, price was too high for such lousy food.

My GF and I went in for lunch looking for a better falafel or more authentic Greek Food than we have found in UT. We both enjoyed our entrees, The portabello sandwich was excellent and very flavorful, the Chicken Gyro had a great charred flavor on the meat. The falafel appetizer was just okay, I suspect the falafels came prepared in a frozen and just fried. Since a good falafel is why we came to try this place we were disappointed.

The service is another matter. I just wanted water but my girlfriend ordered lemonade. It never arrived but our waiter was so scarce by the time he came she had changed her mind and did not want to order it again. Long before our entree arrived our water glasses were empty, which the waiter noticed and said he would be right back with water. It took him quite a while to return. After eating and waiting probably five minutes for our table to be cleared, a check, anything, I asked another server for our check. Our server came out with carrying a bunch of food but managed to grab the check presenter and drop it on the table. After waiting another while we just walked to the cash register to pay and get out. This server was in the wrong field, he did not have the attention span to be waiting tables.

We also found the ambiance lacking. It looks like a Pizza Hut with some fake plastic orange wood-like paneling on the low roof, with chotchkies in every nook trying for character. It was fairly loud.

The food was good but we realize we will probably have to stay at home for good falafels and decent service while in Utah.

Pros: Food was good

Cons: No ambiance, poor service, tacky interior

Waitress was very friendly and helpful. Food portions are large so plan on take-home. Vegan friendly :-)

Everything I've had at Cafe Med is absolutely delicious, from the homemade salad dressings to the saffron ice cream. Try the appetizer platter for a fun Mediterranean variety. Their Baba Ganooj is especially tasty. Their stews are very unique and flavorful. My husband loves the Pakistani food and I love the pastas. The pesto mushroom ravioli is one of the best dishes I've had at a restaurant. Their Italian sausage pasta is another one of my favorites. All of the dishes are served with warm flatbread. I find the eclectic atmosphere very charming and cozy. You won't be disappointed if you try this place!

Pros: Everything is delicious, fun atmosphere

Cons: slow service

Ate the appetizer sampler for lunch. The Moosir is a nice contrast to Tzatziki, and with excellent hummus. Puts Mazza to shame. Stuffed grape leaves were cold and sour/astringent. Not to my taste. Good bread.

I liked the place when it was a blue collar greek place, but it's since gone upscale and more Persian. Worth exploring the menu further.

Pros: Great tasting food

Cons: Dumpy exterior and parking, pricy

My wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant as a result of finding reviews on the web. Now we talk about how bland American food. As you taste all of the wonderful spices and sauces here, we continue wanting to come back and try new dishes. However, the portions are so big, it seems anymore that we both have to share a dish or plan on days of left-overs. We did have one poor service experiences when the staff was dealing with a large group, but once they discovered the error they were very accomodating.

Pros: taste, value

February 19, 2006

oh my goodness! talk about dying about going to heaven. The staff are wonderful and very accommodating. I wanted some of their ice cream but we were headed to the movies. They offered to keep it in the freezer for me until afterwards. I stopped on my way home and picked it up. Now where could you get that kind of service. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The only thing that I didn't like is seeing one of the tables used for their office work. It's very distracting to have interviews and adding machines being tapped while you're eating lunch. But, for the food, I can live with it.

Pros: Value, Location, Delicious

This is a great place to eat. There is nothing fancy about the dining room; sort of a Denny's type atmosphere but with Mediterranean paraphernalia! No intimate little cubbyholes. No- come here to eat. This is a mostly a mixture of popular Greek, Italian, and Persian dishes. Some may be a little timorous of the cuisine, but the ingredients and method of preparation are listed, and even a 'meat-and-potatoes' person will find something quite tasty. Try the appetizer mixer and the ravioli!

I have only ever been there for lunch. The Service has been Attentive, the food has been Delicious and Hot. I love the casual atmosphere, I am comfortable going there with friends or taking Business contacts. Overall, A+

Pros: Great Food, Good Parking

Cafe Med used to be a favorite restaurant. Four years ago I wrote a review raving about the food, service, and ambience. The ambience is still there, but the food is only okay and the service is terrible. This isn't based on one visit; I've been there several times over the past few years hoping it was just a fluke...but no. The food isn't as good and the service is terrible. We bought a guest from out of town to Cafe Med and after waiting an hour our food still hadn't made an appearance! I've waited a half hour for a mediocre gyro plate. I hope that Cafe Med will clean up their act so I can enjoy going there again. Until then I'll get my Middle Eastern fix at the #1 best place for Middle Eastern food: Mazza! It might be a lot further away and crowded, but it's worth it!

Pros: ambience

Cons: uninspired cooking, poor service

We went on a wednesday night and were quite shocked when the place filled every seat. Apparently they were having a belly dancing show and they aren't usually that busy on a weekday night. Despite the crowded and cramped seating that night, the food was good and the service was great. The wait staff is very friendly and warm. The food was tastey, and plentiful. The servings were huge and decently priced.

Pros: service, food, price

I really like the food and the atmosphere at Cafe Med. The service is always great and the food quality and low prices keep me coming back.
