I have heard of hair horror stories but I have never had one. Well this is one for the bucket list.

This haircut/ color doesn't even come close to the $110 price tag I paid. Lets just put this out there. I am not a picky person, I am not even high end, but walking out of a salon with dye on your face is degrading.

I asked for a cut with color touch up and highlights. When the stylist was done with the color I asked about the dye still in my hairline and on my ears. She said she take it off with some 'remover'. Being new to the salon I thought this was a 'new' type of process and trusted her.

After the cut and style she was ready to send me out the door with the dye still on my face. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! I was in a panic, tomorrow is mother's day and my husband is taking me out for a nice dinner. I cannot go like this.

Another stylist, perhaps sensing my distress (YES ABSOLUTE DISTRESS), had the audacity to tell me it because my 'scalp was too dry and the dye has stuck'.
As if somehow her sloppy work is my fault! That is like blaming the patient for a surgical mishap instead of the surgeon.

Okay now I am seriously panicking because it is obvious no one in this salon thinks this is an issue. I am in tears. I ran to my car to hide.

When I got home the full extent of the disaster was apparent. I had to wash may hair, dye still coming out, trying to rub the misplaced dye off my hairline and ears. I have chunks for highlights instead of nicely placed sun streaks.

I look like my eight year old cut and colored my hair. For the amount of money this cost I should have let her, at least it would have been free.

So this was my first time into a salon to get my hair cut. As a man generally unconcerned about my hair this trip to Salon Valentina in SLC has changed the way I will view a haircut forever. My stylist, Lauren C., embodies the spirit of service and maintains a strong passion for her work. From this day on I will gladly pay the few extra dollars to receive the treatment that Lauren and Aveda provide. Thank you so very much! and see you soon!

I actually have used Salon Valentina for many years, off and on when I am in between hair stylists and have had decent haircuts and even stytlists I liked but who moved on. I decided to try Lauren.

BAD IDEA! Going in I had long, layered hair with side swept bangs. Decided to go a little shorter and specifically stated I wanted shoulder length hair, with layers starting at chin length and down. Very important, I am 37, and attorney, and not looking for a frou frou look. I have had the shoulder length style many times in the past and have had NO PROBLEMS explaining this. The only thing we clarified is she gave me this pitch that many of her clients do not like hair that flips up when it is on the shoulders. I said I didnt' really mind it but if she wanted to take it just shorter so it wouldn't flip, okay. MISTAKE!!

Unfortunately, Lauren started in the back, and as I watched closer, as she moved out, thought this was very short. But, sometimes, when the cape comes away, it isn't as short as your first impression so I didn't say anything--and what could you say at that point when half your back is gone? Then, as she was shaping closer to the face, I said this looks shorter than I wanted. And later again. I am not one to make a scene and, in fact, as my stomach was sick, I just refused to really look at it. I did mention again that I had wanted shoulder length, and pointed to my shoulders, where the hair is several inches ABOVE. Her response is to put her hand at the back of my neck and say this is where they start and I had told her I could go a little shorter. I paid--and worse--I tipped!

But back home, I have been in tears for two days. The length is just below my CHIN--there's a GULF between my hair length and my shoulders! And the layers? In the back, there are areas where they are maybe 3 inches long--closer to eye level--not the chin length I specificed--and big empty spaces below the shortest layers. All over the layers are choppy and uneven--particularly at the bottom, making the cut look even shorter and butchered. Worse thing, I thought I could just pull it back until it grows out again but it is even too short for a pony tail!!

What I see is a haircut that, as she described when she was done, was "cute and edgy." So maybe if I was 21 and a student--and hadn't specifically explained the length I wanted--I would have liked it. But this is NOT AT ALL what I described or wanted. This is the first time I have ever had such a bad haircut in my life. I look like an almost 40 year old trying to be 21 again. I would not recommend Lauren unless you are no older than 21--or trying to look that old.

Pros: Nice Ambiance, many other good stylists

Cons: LAUREN

Salon Valentina is a chic and classy hair salon which I love. I get my hair done by a girl named Katie who is marvelous and really easy to talk to. I usually get my hair cut/trimmed and weave highlights. The color comes out great and its like having beautiful natural hair with a dash of highlights. Wonderful.
My husband also goes to Salon Valentina...I will not let anybody else touch his hair, he's had too many bad haircuts. He gets his hair cut by either Ashely or Deanna, both are great and really nice.
As for Charly, my mom and her sisters absolutely love him, he's the owner, and has been in the industry for over 20 years. He's really nice and does amazing hair work as well.
A con is that it is a bit pricey, but I mean...can you put a price having a great hairstyle and/or color? Also, a lot of the girls and Charly are booked, so it takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks to get an appointment.

Pros: Great Hairstyle and Color

Cons: Pricey

I`ve been going to Salon Valentina since it was opened (over 5 years). I tried a few different salons and (not going to mention which) I was very dissatisfied with them. I will never go to any other hair salon. Charly is one of the owners and is a very nice guy ( like everyone at the salon) . He has been in the buisness for over 20+ years if im not mistaken. So to whoever wrote the he was `` NEW`` and trying to have his friends write reviews for him is a complete idiot :)

Pros: Great atmoshpere, people, and service

Cons: NONE!!!

I had been going to Salon Valentina for quite some time and was seeing an amazing stylist there - Erika. I absolutely loved her work! I called a couple weeks ago to schedule my next appt and found out that Erika no longer worked there. When I asked them where she had gone everyone kept telling me they didn't know. I was frustrated and called a friend of mine who also had Erika do her hair. Thank goodness she had found her. Anyways, Erika was at Salon of Italy and come to find out Salon Valentina knew exactly where she was and flat out LIED TO ME!! I can't believe this - 3 people at that salon lied to my face. They may have lied to me in hopes I would continue to get my hair done there, but unfortunately I don't like being lied to. So now, everyone I talk to will be told to NOT go to this salon of liars!!

A salon is only as good as the talent they employ - and I am loyal to the talent I find in high caliber stylists like Erika. For any of her other clients hunting for her - she is at SALON OF ITALY in Holladay.

I visited Salon Valentina for a highlight recently, and I will NOT be returning. After calling around to a few salons to compare prices( I'm new to the area) I chose Valentina because the price was very reasonable at "$65" for a "full highlight".
Well, my color is DRAB DRAB DRAB, and you honestly cannot even tell that I got highlights! When I came home, my boyfriend actually said "What did you get done? I can't even see any highlights." I came into Valentina with vibrant, white, blonde highlights that needed to be badly retouched. I explained to my stylist that I would like the light blonde highlights retouched, as well as a few darker low lights on top to set off the light blonde color. An hour later, I had monotone, mousy brown hair with no dimension, that looked very flat and lacked ANY vibrant color. My stylist did not even highlight my full head either. She only highlighted about half of my head and called it a "full highlight". I figured I could just go get it fixed for free if I did not like it, and unfortunately that was not the case. I was told I would have to pay again. NO WAY!
The worst part was when it was time to pay, the manager informed me it would be $105!!! I was blown away. I informed her that I was told the price only $65 when I had called earlier in the week, and she just looked at me like "oh well-- tough." I ended up paying way more money at this salon than I have EVER paid at any other. I have no problem paying higher prices for a quality outcome, but this was so NOT the case. I ended up paying almost 40 more dollars than the price I was told for drab, flat, lifeless, dimension free, virtually non existent color. Definitely take your business and your hard earned money elsewhere for an outcome that is actually WORTH the super-high price.

Pros: Nice interior, pretty salon on the inside

Cons: Bad color, bad service, lying about prices, below average skill of employees, very expansive!!

Coming to Utah I was concernced about finding a salon like what I used to - I'm originally from NY and have been living in Las Vegas for the past 6 years. I asked a co-worker for a recommendation and she told me about Salon Valentina. I decided to give it a whirl. It was perfect! The salon was so inviting and everyone was so friendly! I loved the giant windows, beautiful atmosphere, and the quaint feeling there. Not one of these HUGE super edgy salons where you get the cold shoulder. In fact, I had such a good time there - the girls are very professional but fun and funny! I scheduled my appointment with Erika and she was wonderful!! She made me feel very at home and I walked out of that salon with the best haircut and most fabulous color I think I've ever had! Talk about a stylist who knows what she's doing! I'm not interested in going anywhere else.

Pros: Fantastic atmosphere, friendly people, amazing talent - average prices

Cons: I'm used to having a Diet Coke while I get my hair done - no soda there

Charlie is one of the hair stylists who owns Salon Valentina. I agree that he is amazing. I have been getting my hair cut and styled by him for at least 8 years. Charlie always does exactly what I want and is a very personable man. The only con is that If you want a hair cut from him, you need usually need to schedule it a few weeks in advance because he is so popular.

Pros: Wonderful service and atmosphere

i went to valentina for the first time and anyway i was really dissapointed , i spent the most money here then any other hair salon and they didnt even do a good job, i got my hair partially highlighted and when i was done it hardly looked like my hair got color...so i went home mad but then after taking to friend (she was right if i dont like it i should go back and tell them so i did and got more highlight for free since i paid after few more i decied to wacht her and notice she only put 1 pieces on the each side and called it partially didnt even get the back side ( i told her abpout it and then she added one more foil ) anyway im not happy. later my family saw my highlight and said they were where hardly noticable and thats going back the 2 second time,... so im not going back,,, i highlighted my hair before and it looked good, but takes alot more work- but even that i like how u can add lot more to yout hair........., i found one salon worth paying - (Lunatic Fringe)- suprislying dont charge much and hair drying and washing free
and valentina charges for drying and washing hair -

We were new in town and my husband desperately needed a haircut so we decided to try Salon Valentina. Our stylist was Cassy. Right away we felt comfortable with her, she listen to what we wanted and gave us just that! She was amazing. My husband will not go to anyone but her and now i have become a loyal client. She cuts, colors, highlights and styles my hair and it's perfect every time! The salon had a great atmosphere and everyone is so polite.

I went to salon Valentina twice in the past 5 months, once for highlights, and once for a perm. My stylist was Ashley (large, dark haired girl, very pleasant) and she did a magnificent job each time. All my friends loved the highlights (and the A-line haircut that went with it). As for the perm, I wanted a loosely curled, beach-style look, and I got exactly that. Some of my friends love it, some preferred the straight hair version, but I am quite happy with this look. The place was pricey for my student budget (about $100 per session), but it was worth it (for once to twice a year occurrence), as my significant other complimented me on the hair each time. Recommend this salon for special occasions, or for a good hairstyle that lasts a few months.

Pros: great hairstyling

Cons: somewhat pricey (>$50 for anything)

★★★★★

I'm new to the area and was looking for a good salon ( I've already dealt w/ 2 bad ones here). I scanned city search and found Valentina was really close to me. I called and was immediately able to make an appointment the same day. My stylist was Ashley and she really made me feel at home, she was pleasant and chatted with me about what I wanted done to my hair. She did exactly what I wanted for a VERY reasonable price and I "look hot" (my boyfriend's response). All the girls I work with are going over there now and they were just as satisfied. I definitely recommend this awesome salon.

Pros: Experience, friendliness, great customer service

Cons: None that I could see

Who is Charley? I've been to this place a few times and didn't notice a Charley. There are others that work there too. Maybe Charley is new and trying to build his/her clientelle by getting their friends to write about him. When I got my hair done, the lady almost killed my scalp with the blow dryer. Haven't had such a problem before. The other time I went in to get my eyebrows done, I was impressed that they didn't just wax, but trimmed the hair length too. The second time I went in they did not trim the hair length along with the waxing.

I found the salon by reading the reviews. Deciding if Charly was that good, the staff would be also. (Iam 57 and thanks to the current makeover shows woke up to the fact I had been wearing my hair the same way for 30odd years) So told this to Sara, who was the delightful girl who cut my hair, that I was in her hands,do what you think (something I have never said to a hairdresser). she put my back to the mirror and when she finished I hardly recognised my self. She did an amazing job. I'd say the best I've ever had. The rest of the reviewers are also right the atmosphere is good, the staff very friendly and wonderful work at a reasonable price. My hair looks great. Have had complements from all over the place. Thank-you Sara and thank-you City Search!

I saw Charly for the first time today and I have just one thing to say - the guy is FANTASTIC! For 15 years I've had my hair cut and colored by 'the best' in the Salt Lake and not one of them has half the talent this guy has. I'm very picky about my hair (who isn't!) and I have a lot of it. Charly listened to me, even took time to sit down and look at a couple of magazines with me to make sure we understood each other, and then he worked his magic. The result, 45 minutes later, is amazing.
The salon is comfortable, light, and open - and not at all pretentious (although they have every right to be!) They have good product lines for sale, but not one person tried to sell me anything.

Pros: CHARLY!, Relaxed astmosphere

★★★★★

Charly gives the best cut I have ever had! He is a perfectionist and you can tell that every single hair on your head receives attention. He is great with color too, for us not-so-natural blondes. Great conversationalist with a bit of sexy charm! He was one of the hardest people to leave when I had to move to Colorado. I have had my nails, toes, and eyebrows done at Salon Valentina. Everything was great! The staff is wonderful and the salon is upscale without being overdone. I highly recommend Charly and the salon. Plus they are open on Mondays which is so uncommon in the Salon World

And if for some reason, you go there and are not happy; TELL THEM! This is one place where they do not want you to leave dissatisfied. They will do everything in their power to make it right!

Pros: Convenient, Lots of Parking, Wonderful Staff

★★★★★

I have only had 3 people do my hair my whole life and my mom was one! After I moved here I thought I'd have to fly home to have my hair done. But Charly is the best! Great guy too! All the other girls are great. I highly recommend this place!
