Most of you, especially those complaining about the wait (in a nice warm waiting room) or a singular billing issue, don't really know what it's like to have a sick kid until your 26-month-old is diagnosed with cancer. That's when you discover how really wonderful Watson/Salisbury/Capital Area Pediatrics really is. Back in 1992 when our son was diagnosed, our world fell apart. Carl Salsbury showed up at Georgetown more than once and stood there with us as our son's gorgeous head of hair fell out when the chemo kicked in. When our little guy started stuttering and Georgetown recommended speech therapy, Dr. S was there again and said our son would do just fine once we got him away from the hospital. He was right. Kathy Quinn, who had an amazing ability to connect with parents, warned us that cancer would set our son back developmentally at least temporarily, so when he couldn't ride a trike until he was 4 years old, we understood his struggle. In 2004, she coached us on applying to high schools that had special needs programs because our son had learning issues, some caused by the chemo. She wrote recommendations to accompany his applications and because of her, our son ended up at a school we had never heard of, a far better choice than anything in Arlington. And when she "retired" we got a call from the office telling us Kathy expected us to attend. We see the same concern and dedication in the younger doctors who took over the practice, and believe me, we have spent a lot to time with them, too. Dr. Pierce did a far better job at dealing with our son's allergies/pneumonia issues than his allergy doctor did. She was also very tuned into his teenage concerns. Dr. Waxman was a pro at handling ADHD meds and testing and the very complicated attendant issues. My husband and I met with her more than once without our son to discuss problems and strategies. She somehow found the energy to call me at home at 9pm a few nights to discuss test results after she put her own kids to bed. Dr. Oh-Tan talked me off my cliff when our son got a couple of abnormal blood tests. She knew what we had been through, and patiently explained what was going on, what the probable causes were and why we have to do more tests over the next couple of months.
I don't want to sound like Pollyanna: we have had a quite a few dust-ups over the years with doctors, clinics, hospitals, Blue Cross and a law firm or two over billing, medication, procedures, attitudes, etc, but Watson/Salsbury/Capital Area Pediatrics took thoughtful care of our son and treated us with respect.

I have gone to so many of the locations and I drive 45 min to get to the Vienna Office. Dr Evan Karp is literally a TOP RATED DR and even on the walls as Best Pediatrician at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. This man knows his stuff and my 3 kids LOVE him. they love going to the Dr. He is thorough and wise. Nothing is ever overlooked with him.. Many of the other locations misdiagnosed my kids when have a broken leg as well as pneumonia. Hes there from helping your kids be potty trained to egtting shots to playfully keeping them entertained as he does his job. I have referred at least 10 pregnant woman to that practice and all to this day thank me! Good Luck

I might be the patient with the longest time at this practice. We've been patients for 19 years now (four boys, youngest is 8 so we have at least 10 more years of pediatricians ahead of us). I have been happy with the practice and often recommend it to others. The doctors have always given me their undivided attention when I'm with them and I've felt that they have been wise and prudent in their recommendations. I've especially enjoyed working with Dr. Waxman, Dr. Oh-Tan, and Dr. Lee. I have been a bit frustrated with long waits (45 minutes-an hour) during the past couple of years worth of visits for our family. I don't appreciate that. However, I haven't gone looking for another practice because I have high confidence in these doctors. I also have appreciated the nurses who take phone call questions. They have been VERY helpful and patient and well-informed.

We used to go to the falls church office and now go to the Vienna office. Falls Church was a pure factory. The push you in and out fast. You don't get the feeling that the doctors are very knowledgeable or caring. On one visit I thought there was something wrong with the Nurse who gave the vaccinations. I told the doctor and she has not been there recently.

Make no mistake this is a money making practice and that is it. If you want a real caring doctor this is not the place for you.

We moved to Vienna which seems more like a regular doctors office but in fact is not. The Doctor we saw there seemed not as rushed and all seemed better than at Falls Church. The Dr. even went so far as to tell us that the offices are all separate, I am assuming he new their reputation at other locations.

Then came this morning. My baby was sick (vomiting( and we were told to call at 8am to make an appointment. After waiting 45 minutes on hold the receptionist told me that our account was on hold because we had not paid a bill and that she could not take payment because we had to call the billing department in ashbrurn. Keep in mind that my baby is sick and crying. I called the billing department that she gave me and the number was wrong after several transfers I finally got a person who explained that I had a bill from 2008, 2009, and 2010. Total amount due was under $200. I told her that I always ask how much I owe before I leave and was never told of this amount. She told me that the only time it would have appeared was at my last visit in 2010 ( so it takes them over a year to process claims) and that I should have been told. (I was never told). Also I have an HSA account so the money is essentially irrelevant to me.

Basically, I am leaving the office now and moving on to a better practice that understands the practice of medicine. There is no personal touch to the place it is a factory. I should have gone in and they should have told me that I have an outstanding balance and I should have paid at the front desk.

We visited the herndon office of this practice and one of the receptionists was really mean, she did not let us schedule an appointment with our choice and told us our child will not be given preference to see doctor of our choice which was a lie. We still went ahead and the same nurse practitioner twice. She was horrible, argued with my husband twice when he stated his concern for our 5 week old son's sleeplessness, rashes and execessive spitting. Needless to say it ended being milk protein allergy. We gave the other doctor chance and she was not friendly at all, never interacted with our baby and was very vague with her answers to our queries. Overall bad experience, we changed our pediatrician and my baby is doing great, will never recommend anyone this practice.

This pediatric office offers superior service. All 4 doctors on staff have phenomenal bedside manner and are great with my kids. They once waited for me to bring my wheezing daughter in at 8:00 p.m. during a snowstorm! We called at 7:45. They didn't rush us around once we got there. They took their time, put her on a nebulizer and sent us home with a loaner. We never wait longer than 10 min. beyond our appt. time and we can almost always get a same day, last-minute appt. Staff is friendly, and they have movies in the waiting room for the kids. We love this place! The staff knows my kids by name.

We've been going to this practice since we moved to Falls Church four years ago and I've been very happy with it. The doctors listen to me and are good with the kids (I have three). I've never had a problem getting an appointment that day if one of my children were sick. My wait times have almost always been reasonable, and I usually feel like I'm in and out of the office quickly. The front desk staff is business-like, but friendly with the kids. The nurses are great. I would highly recommend this practice.

Watson-Salsbury took excellent care of my three daughters, starting in 1985. In recent times, the practice has cared for my grandson, now 9. Dr Watson was a nice man, but not a great doctor; Salsbury was wonderful - highly intelligent, respectful of the intelligence of others, genuinely interested in individual children, and always prepared to mix common sense with medical knowledge. The jury is still out on the new physicians, but so far they seem pretty solid. Unlike some reviewers, we have not had lengthy waits. Salsbury was one of the finest pediatricians in the D.C. area, so the new doctors have a pretty daunting task to come up to his standard. Because of him, this practice had an outstanding reputation in the area, so it's still running, in part, on that reputation. The new doctors deserve a chance to show they can reach that standard.

FIrst rate. Four kids in their care for the last four years. With a couple of exceptions that I know happen anywhere when doctors have to take emergency patients first, our name has been called within minutes of our appointed time.

Nurses are attentive and thorough, and the doctors all have excellent manner, and have helped us numerous times through illnesses, diagnoses, and forms for schools. We're very happy with our service there.

We are very satisfied with this practice. Our daughter is 14 months old and has been seen by the staff since the day she was born. Whenever we call we get an appointment that same day and have had no problem getting evening appointments when we need them. If we need to call after hours or on a holiday the doctors have always gotten back to us within 10 minutes. And we almost never wait more than 15 minutes either in the waiting room or in the exam room (maybe because we usually have evening appointments?). We have never had an issue with diagnosis or lab results or excess tests being ordered. We find the doctors to be well informed and caring and the staff is very nice too. This practice was recommended to me by several friends and I in turn have recommended it to others.

We've been going here since my son was born, almost 2 1/2 yrs ago. We've seen Dr. Pierce, Dr. Lee, Dr. Waxman and Dr. Oh-Tan. The doctors, nurses, and receptionists have always been nice and kind to us and my son. My only complaint is the LONG wait in the waiting room and in the room waiting for the doctor. I waited an hour past the scheduled time for the doctor to finally see us. For a 2 yr old, that is a very long time to make them wait. They need to try to fix that problem. Other than that, we have been pleased.

Prior to moving to the DC area over a year ago, we did extensive research on locating a pediatrician for our then 18 month old daughter. We chose Watson Salsbury after we'd read the bios on each of the doctors (IMPRESSIVE!) It also didn't hurt that their office was located less than a mile from where we lived. Our first visit was with Dr. Waxman who was extremely knowlegable, patient, and spent a great deal of time getting to know us and our daughter.

We're now well into our second year as patients, and we can't think of anywhere else we'd send our little girl!!

We've been delighted with the folks at Watson Salsbury, especially Dr. Oh-Tan. All the doctors are warm, have kids themselves (which shows), and will see us immediately when necessary -- which unfortunately has been necessary relatively frequently!!

We moved to the larea last year and began seeing Dr. Pearce at Watson Salisbury as soon as we arrived. She is wonderful with my 4 children, we recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and responsive pediatrician. The ladies at the desk are always very cheerful and helpful also.

We have been using this practice for 10 years now and have been more than satisfied. I would definitely recommend them.True, the wait times are longer now than in the past but that may be more a factor of the time of day now that we use the late afternoon hours more often. In general, I think the staff is very helpful and accommodating for both well visits and sick visits. We have used most of the the doctors and found them to be attentive and caring although they do seem to rush through the visit more times than not (hence the four stars rather than 5). This was not the case when we were seen by Dr. Salsbury. I like the fact that they are in the neighborhood and also have Saturday hours.

We have been going to this practice for 5 years and used to love the doctors and the way the office was run. But ever since Dr. Watson and then Dr. Salsbury retired, things went downhill. The last 4 appointments we had to wait for more than an hour to see a doctor during the scheduled appointment. We tried 3 different doctors at the practice and neither of them spent more than 3-4 minutes with our infant, one did not remember his name or age, and neither of them looked like they cared. The doctors always look rushed and the women at the front desk are mean. We are looking for another practice.

The doctors, nurse practitioners in this practive on Park Avenue in Falls Church are fantastic. We have used them for years. The front office staff is very kind and helpful on the phone. We have had nothing but good experiences with almost all the providers in the office. They can fit you into their Saturday schedule in their Herndon office, if you have a weekend urgent need.

I have been using this practice for over 10 years, since my son's birth. We have mainly used the Fallschurc office, but have been to the Herndon office, on occasion for Saturday emergencies. I can see we have see almost every doctor and nurse practitioner in the practice, in Falls Church, and have liked them all. We really don't have a preference about whom we see. The reception staff is very stable, awesome and kind. The folks have always been able to fit us into their schedule if we had an urgent matter. My son, who is older enough to know, now, also likes them. They all make him feel comfortable about his trips to the doctors' office.
