Pretty good providers, but REALLY BAD office staff. Would not accept my insurance for a specific procedure even though they report they generally will accept that insurance (Tricare), even if I had a pre-authorization in hand. They did suggest that it could be paid for out of pocket. Sounded a lot like a bait and switch...

I used this practice with my first child and am now back for baby #2, and recommend them highly to all women in the Winchester area. First of all - it is an all-female practice. (This is important to me as the doctors and nurses have experience on the receiving end, so to speak, and I believe most if not all of the doctors are also mothers - they've been through it too.) Second, the office staff are very courteous and professional. I primarily see Dr. Sharma but in the course of my first pregnancy (where I ended up at WMC on bed rest) I did get to see everyone in the practice. I am shocked to see any negative reviews of this practice at all but if you are a new patient (esp. maternity) I would recommend asking the office staff a little about each doctor/midwife before making your first appointment - like all of us they each have different personalities - if you are very holistic you might not want to be placed with someone who is very clinical, etc. Dr. Sharma has a great personality and has been very considerate throughout both of my pregnancies to make sure I understand and am comfortable with any recommended courses of action, and I have always felt like my feelings and opinions are met with respect. I had hoped for an all-natural birth and I ended up having to deliver at 34 weeks with every intervention short of a c-section - not what I had anticipated at all, but at every turn my options were explained and I felt like I had some say in the matter (and bottom line - had a healthy baby). I also have to say - I really like June and was sorry you really only get to work with her at first to confirm pregnancy and then for follow-up after delivery! (I took full advantage of those follow-up calls and again, never felt anything less than full consideration and respect. She is friendly and puts you at ease, I don't know, kind of like your friend's mom - you know, the one you can talk to.) This practice also holds their own childbirth class for their patients (for free! on one Saturday morning! much more convenient than the hospital class). I knew my manly-man husband was probably less than than thrilled about the prospect of a childbirth class but June was very down-to-earth and really entertaining if you can imagine - all the fathers/support partners were comfortable and she often had all of us laughing.
Bottom line - this is the practice I recommend to my family and friends in the area. To those who gave negative reviews - I would certainly not recommend going somewhere you didn't feel respected, but for anyone looking for a new doctor - don't let the few negative reviews turn you off from giving this practice a try - they have far more happy, returning customers.

I am new in the area and was pregnant ended up with the doctors of this practice in Winchester Medical (great hospital by the way). They then transferred me to John Hopkins which is where I delivered. After my little girl arrived at 25 weeks they discharged me home with instructions to follow up with a local Doc. After a week I was still having problems and ended up in the ER where they told me I still had debris left from delivery. I was given meds and told to follow up with Dr. Reese, I called to make the appointment and the receptionist called back and informed me the would not see me do to liability issues, I of course at this time was in pain and stressed so I said Fine and hung up since there was no more to be discussed. A week later I am getting a letter stating I was abusive to this lady and that I was no longer welcome at this practice ( which I had never been to in the first place) I find that 1. this is a complete lie on the receptionist part and find this practice highly rude and not a way to run a doctors office.

I feel very well respected in this office. I like the midwife and am very confident in my choice of practitioner. Her nurse is fantastic and the office staff always friendly. However, THIS TRIAGE NURSE, JUNE, IS THE WORST! She is condescending, rude and dismissive. On my first visit to the practice I was told that if anything went wrong, even if I didn't think it was 'a big deal,' I should call and let them know. At 34 weeks of pregnancy I had a new symptom which I thought could be related to my pregnancy. When I called the office I was promptly dismissed by Nurse JUNE. When I pointed out that I was just doing as I was told in the beginning she wrote a nasty remark in my file, which I saw on my next visit.
It is a shame that this practice continues to employ such a nasty woman. This is supposed to be such a special time in my life and I have to see her childish little remarks in my file? I sincerely hope that the doctors and midwife of this practice will reconsider JUNE'S continued employment at Blue Ridge Ob/Gyn.

I would give this practice 0 stars if it was possible to do so and write this review. I went here for my first child and the midwife Karen Lint-Nguyen appeared to courteous, knowledgeable and caring but the office staff were rude, disrespectful and out of order. They are not flexible with appointment scheduling and they make it very clear that you are not a priority. They required a consultation with a nurse before I could see a provider and then billed my insurance for a 1 hour appointment with a physician, when in fact I had spent 15 minutes with the nurse (FRAUD!!!). They take every opportunity to schedule multiple appointments for services which can be provided during 1 visit and I truly felt this was so that they could continue to bill unnecessarily. I am a health care professional myself and they could not give me a legit reason why I could not have an ultrasound and pap smear done on the same day.. When I refused to make more than 1 appointment for the ultrasound, I was told by the office manager, Nancy that Karen (the midwife) told me they no longer had openings for new patients (this was after they had already treated me as a patient of Karen's) and that I should go find another midwife to deliver my baby. Needless to say, I have filed a formal complaint for insurance fraud and appealed the charges they submitted to my insurance company. Who accepts a patient, provides billable services and then tells them that they don't have openings for new patients? Absurd and heartless. Practices like this give the field of medicine a bad reputation. They are all about the $$$ and could care less about you as an autonomous individual. They should be held accountable for treating patients this way.

I've seen Karen Nguyen off and on for the last 8 years, she saw me for my very first appointment and was very kind and understanding. She was actually the one broke the news to me that I was pregnant at 17. I can't say that I experienced any discrimination from Karen or any staff there anytime during my pregnancy. However, the only complaints I do have is that when I went into labor, I was seen by Dr. Reese, who I'd never even met before, and who didn't even ask me about my birthing plan, she came in, checked me and ordered pitocin for me even though I had only been in labor for 2 hours and was progressing quickly. If she had asked before walking out and ordering it, she would've known that I wanted to do a natural birth, so of course I refused the pitocin. I didn't see her again until I delivered, naturally, 6 hours later. As far as my experiences with Karen go, the only complaints I have is that sometimes when she's examining me she'll carry on a conversation with her nurse like I'm not even in the room. However, I like Karen, she's very down to earth, and all her nurses have always been super sweet to me.

I disagree about the discrimanation of young mothers here. I was 15 when I had my first appt. with Karen and she was very sweet and kind like everybody else there. I went back for my second child and nothing had changed she knew who I was and even asked about my first son, which she had not seen in 3 years. All of my family members have the same doctor and we love her!!!!!! DR.REESE IS AWSOME!!!!!

DO NOT GO HERE!! Most awful place ever. I agree, doctors were better than the office staff. I was going to be 5 mins late for an appt and i called them to let them know. the person i was talking to asked where i was!(like thats any of her business!) i told her i was at the hospital, about 5 mins away(my mom was at a breast cancer appt) DRIVING mins, btw!
she suggested i walk, mind you i am 6 months pregnant in HOT AUGUST ! she then continued to yell at me because i wouldn't walk and basically i was a piece of crap! i cried and my mom gave her hell! lol

also, i think they discriminated against me because i was only 16 at the time.they were not personal at all. i had gestational diabetes and somehow, ultimately, got kicked out and am never allowed back there because i didn't "follow their rules" ??? yeah they're a-holes..
PLEASE! Anybody thinking of going there,DON'T! Especially if you are young, they will discriminate.
ps-have seen all the drs there, they need to go back to school! i was told there was a hole in my childs heart.went to a specialist, scared out of my mind, she saw absolutely nothing and laughed that she didnt even know why they sent me to her...HA..both karens are bad.office staff is heartless!!!

I started out my first pregnancy with the midwife and I LOVED her!! So personable and always reassuring and made everything about my pregnancy easy to understand and worry free! My second pregnancy I used one of the doctors there and she was just as great. Very professional, but also personable too. I really liked her a lot. But as one other reviewer said, the office staff isn't so great. They made me feel unimportant, that my questions and problems weren't priority, like they had better things to do. It was very disappointing to meet and have such great doctors and midwives with an uncaring office staff. Otherwise, I highly recommend the doctors and midwife.

My mid-wife here was excellent, but the office manager was awful!! No people skills and patient care is not prioritized - long waits with no communication. I would recommend the mid wife at this office, but cannot recommend this practice.
