Ratings_icons Pet & Aquatic Warehouse Mixed Reviews

Mixed reviews about this store Yes they had everything I needed for both my hamster and dog and all the fun little toys for them too. But I do not like the fact they sell from puppy mills and they do not have a puppy petting area where the puppy can run around a bit aside from his/her cage that they are trapped in all day. It's a horrible way any animal should be treated. Petopia Pet store on Timberlake rd atleast has an area for these animals to get a bit more exercise than their cage! The previous person said they do not sell from Puppy mills, then before you buy a puppy from ANY pet store you should request the breeders address and visit the mother of the puppy first before you buy, if they don't allow you to do that then you got your answer. Investigate Puppy Mills. Please consider the Humane Society which has many loving animals awaiting homes, many of which are puppies and kitten that need your love! Visit Lynchburg Humane Society before considering a Pet store. Also they allow you to write you name down and they will call you if you preferr a certain breed and if one comes in they will call you. Amazing!

Ratings_icons Pet & Aquatic Warehouse does not support puppymills. Family owned.

Lucy C.

Pet and Aquatic Warehouse does not buy puppies from puppy mills. They guarantee their puppies. If a customer has any problems they stand behind them 100%. Their Vet checks every puppy before it's sold. Their satisfaction guarantee is 100% or money back and in writing. I worked there for 10 yrs. before I left to be a mother. The owner was always careful where he got his puppies. Honest, good people to work for. They truly care about the animals and customers. Rarely did I ever see upper respiratory problems. Even puppies from breeders can get upper respiratory problems. On those rare occasions the owner always paid the customer back for any medications, if needed. I never saw mange, Dr. Miller would never pass a puppy for sale that had and problems. (HE HAS TO PASS EVERY PUPPY BEFORE IT'S SOLD). Never with an under or over bite, nor would he pass luxating patellas. Call him and ask him yourself if you want the truth. 846-2563. People that tell you where to shop are probably competitors. No all pet stores that sell puppies are bad. Some people will never like pet stores that sell puppies even if they do it right. Pet stores that adopt pets can be cruel check out this site and see for yourself. www.petsmartcruelty.com

Ratings_icons FABULOUS customer service and GREAT prices

Mary Lynn P.

I went to two other stores before ending up at PAW. I was shopping for a first time kitten and really didn't know what to purchase. An employee (I found out later was the owner) not only helped to educate me, but helped me carry my purchases to the car. Good customer service is hard to find these days. I was very impressed with the quality of the products purchased and the prices were great. Then, the checkout clerk started cutting coupons for me out of their flier. Wow. PAWS will be my one stop store for my pets' needs.

Ratings_icons Pet & Aquatic Warehouse sells puppy mill puppies

Susan P.

Please don't buy from them, they sell puppy mill puppies!!! No respectable breeder would sell their puppies to a pet store. I work at a local animal hospital and we've seen about 12 puppies that people bought from PAWS in the last 3 months that came in with very bad upper respiratory infections, covered in fleas and sometimes mange, and very badly bred (horrible underbites, luxating patellas, etc.). Please don't shop at PAWS, there are other alternatives in Lynchburg!! Check out Pet Craze where the Western Ways used to be. They have the premium food and they don't sell puppies. Anything you could want, they will order it for you. Or shop at Petsmart, they do cat adoptions from local shelters and DON'T SELL PUPPIES!! Please don't support this horrible practice to stop puppy mills.

I have always been satisfied with my purchases and the assistance I've received at PAWS. But they also are great community partners for Ygyrl Leaders.

Ratings_icons Greatest selection of exotic fish

Steve H.

I am an Airline pilot from New Bern, NC. On many occasions I purchased fish from this establishment, and they would "fix me up" with a few special tablets, extra big bags and air to travel aboard my cooler in an airliner for two extra days until I could put them in my tank. I am happy to say after about 30 fish purchased over the years, only one died (for obvious reasons). They are truly experts, and I would recommend them to anyone. They will take the time to educate you properly. Thanks for all the good service over the years.

Ratings_icons Too bad they sell puppies

Don J.

This is a pretty darn good pet store in many ways. It seems to have a lot of different and varied pet supplies, including some of the premium dog foods that are harder to find. They stock lots of good reptile supplies and have a decent selection of reptiles, all of which look healthy and well-cared-for. They have a large selection of reptile food, specifically frozen rodents plus crickets and meal worms. They have a decent selection of bird supplies. They have a great selection of pond supplies, and their entire first floor is devoted to aquarium fish and supplies.

My one serious criticism is that they sell puppies, and not from a shelter. They must get them from puppy mills, because no conscientious dog breeder would sell their puppies to a pet store. I do still shop there because of all the other pluses, and the lack of a comparable store in the vicinity, but if I had another choice I would boycott solely because of the puppy issue.

Ratings_icons A great place to experience!

Pat P.

This is the greatest store. I love shopping there. The volume of products is unreal. and the store just goes on and on. You won't believe the inside when you drive to the front. What a variety and with prices about as good as you can find anywhere. their fish department is wonderful and I don't do fish; but love to loooook! It's a 40 min. drive for me and worth every drop of gas.

Ratings_icons all my experiences have been good ones for many years

Clara T.

I have had nothing but satifsying experiences with staff and products. It is a busy little shop but me, my husband and my children always have pleasant experiences while we are there. My children always ask to go to PAWs when we are in the city. I hope a couple of bad reviews do not deter anyone from giving them a try. The only possible complaint is that the building is not big enough to accommodate all of the customers, which in it's self should tell you how good they really are. Please give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

Ratings_icons Discouraged.

Jennifer S.

I bought a hamster from this store seven days ago. This morning she was dead. Disappointingly it was from a common disease among hamsters that I was unaware of, Wet Tail, an illness they immediately assumed caused her death. After they labeled what caused her passing I went home and looked at some things about it online. This is a curable illness, if you know it exists and know what to look for. But P.A.W. did not even give me the slightest clue. This small animal became very sentimental to me quite instantly, being it was the first pet that me and my significant other bought together. She was important, and it was a traumatizing experience for me to go to pick her up this morning to play with her and find her dead. Imagine if this experience had occurred to a child. I am disappointed in the fact that the courtesy was not taken to warn me of the risk. So maybe I could have prevented this, or treated her. I took my hamster back and they did allow me to get a new hamster but none the less they were empathetic and showed no true remorse for this. They casually told me what had happened.I think that someone should have shown the courtesy to explain the risks, maybe a sign to look out for, it was such a treatable illness. Therefore I am quite disappointed in the store. Also I was discouraged to see the lack of personal interactions with the animals, personally I do know that you should interact with animals at a young age, so they will know what to expect. Yet these living creatures are trapped in glass boxes looking out into a world they don't even know. and aren't shown, until a sudden change into homes of pet owners. I am quite unsatisfied with the store. This will not be the end of my complaints. I want something done, for the other animal loving people of the community.

Ratings_icons Unsatisfied! An understatement.

Josh M.

Recently I purchased a gold fish for my 4 year old son from P.A.W. I have purchased several oranda's, algae eaters, and snails from P.A.W. in the past and have had no problem with keeping these fish in top condition. On this occasion I purchased the gold fish, set up the tank, ph'd the water, let the fish set in the bag till the water temp in the bag was the same as the water in tank, etc.I introduced the fish into the water. No more than 12 hours later the fish was dead. I called P.A.W. and they told me to bring the fish in along with the water from the tank. When we got there the staff was very un-helpfull and un-sympathetic to the situation. It was as if they only cared about making that extra dollar. They tested the water and looked at the fish and told us the goldfish died b/c the ph was to high. Then they asked us if we lived in the city. We do. They told us that the city water's ph was to high for the gold fish and that b/c the ph was to high they wouldn't replace the gold fish. I told them I ph'd the water b4 i put the fish in the tank and that the water could have a high ph b/c the fish could have been dead in the water for several hours. They didn't care. They brought the manager out when I questioned about the ph in the city being high when they are in the city themselves. The manager got rude with me and told me we could either purchase a new fish or we were out of luck. It wasn't the fact that we had to purchase a new fish that made me upset it was the fact that they told me that the city water's ph was to high for the fish and they didn't take into account that I ph'd the water and that the fish may have been dead for several hours. I will not buy another thing from P.A.W. since the staff and manager were rude and not empathetic to a situation in which I had no control over. I ended up buying another fish from them that day and that was the last time they will receive any money from me. That fish is fine and has been since I brought it home. I will travel the extra hour to Roanoke if I have to get good customer service. I would have been fine with the answer I got from them about the fish and that they wouldn't replace it, but the rude, un-professional response I received from the staff made it to where a long time customer who has spent thousands of dollars there on dog supplies and fish supplies will go just down the road to pet smart just to get the level of customer service I expect from a pet store. If you are going to buy fish from there PLEASE think about going somewhere else. I would hate for anyone else to have the same experience I had.

Ratings_icons Great Store

Sharon b.

We drive about 45 minutes to get to this store. The staff is always friendly and very knowledgable. All the fish are downstairs and upstairs are the small animals and reptiles. They carry everything from the food to the pets themselves including hamsters, birds, cats, dogs, rabbits, reptiles, fish, and many others. I would definately recommend this store to anyone who has or wants to have any kind of pet.

Ratings_icons A local store with excellent service

Tom H. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,688

With the rise of commecialized Pet stores, many smaller pet shops have gone out of business. Fighting back against the trend, Pet & Aquatic Warehouse offers personal service and a suprisingly large selection. Nearly everyone has some type of pet and treats them nicely. While you might buy your food at Wal-mart, this store offers you cheap pet products that make the most of your time with the four legged extension of your family. Cheap, friendly, and local...what more can you ask for?

This place has good prices and a great selection, however like most pet places, they don't have much for things besides cats, dogs, birds, hamsters, etc.

We bought my son's 2 hamsters here, as well as equipment for his lizard before he died. We had great experience with the staff, and there was plenty of different choices of cages, aquariums, foods and toys for animals.
