Very Bad Experience

by Kathleen R.

This practice is now located at Ryan Park in Ashburn, Virginia. Business comes first, not children. I will never go back. I called and was told that they (the practice) had just received a shipment of the HINI Vaccine. I was relieved and made an appointment for my kids to receive the vaccine. The evening before the appointment, they called and canceled. They had run out. Run out? At no time when I made the appointment was I told that they might run out. I was told they had it and were making appointments to administer it. I stopped my search. I relied on them to my detriment (I did not sign my kids up to receive it at school). If they had 100 vaccines, they should have made only 100 appointments and put others (even my kids) on the wait list. I much prefer to know the truth.....and I would have continued my search with the Health Department. Instead, they booked, booked, booked....$$$. Shockingly, they did not understand why I was upset upon learning they were canceling the appointment. They were completely insensitive. They said many parents were in the same situation. Well, those parents should be upset too. It is no excuse. They told me they had it and they made an appointment for my kids. Was I suppose to think "the kids have an appointment for the vaccine with THEIR DOCTOR, but it might not happen?" What is the point of making the appointment? I do not trust this practice. My kids deserve better.

What to do..?

by Kirsten K.

I have been taking my boys here for the past 3 years, I was referred to them via a member in the family. I have always had a pleasant experience and it seems that the people there are beginning to remember my face and my kids. I love the doctors and absolutely love the PA Tia, however I have been less than impressed with the office/reception staff. I agree with the previous review regarding Gayle, I feel she is always pre-occupied and doesn't really have time for me. Furthermore, not that it makes a huge difference, there is not much to entertain the kids while they wait for their appointments and then post-appointment no stickers or candy, a simple stamp is all they offer (and they don't even rotate the stamps). Again not that it is extremely important for me but for my boys it is a big deal. Anyways, I am in a difficult situation now because I am 8 months prego with my 3rd boy and I am having second thoughts about CAPAVP, what to do? Where do I go, is there a better place? Help!

Dr. Lisa Hill-Williams is wonderful!!

by Tara H.

Both of my kids have been going to this practice since we moved into the area 3 years ago. Dr. Lisa is the favorite for my kids and we started at the Ashburn office with her and moved to the newest Ryan Park location last year when she moved there. The new facility is nice, the staff are helpful and the doctors are great! She always answers all of my questions and my childrens questions. She is also great at explaining directly to the kids what is wrong with them and how we are going to make them better. Wonderful place!! I would recommend them!!

Very bad experience

by Elizabeth P.

We had been going to this practice for 4 years and everything was fine until our daughter was being treated for strep by them and was still having fever after 6 days of taking meds. They kept insisting it was the flu in addition to strep but they absolutely refused to do the flu test in office because of insurance billing problems and when we said we would pay them ourselves they still refused citing they were not allowed to charge us since we had insurance. So basically they said we should take our daughter to emergency at the hospital as they were not going to do the quick flu test which costs a measly $35 dollars which we agreed to pay directly. We did take our daughter to an urgent care facility and it turns out she still had strep and was not responding to treatment so they changed the antibiotic and she was fever free the very next day. A whole week went by before we finally resolved the problem and no thanks to this practice, Thanks to Nova Medical Group, we received the care we needed and they did the flu test in office and our insurance paid for it.
You can judge for yourself if you feel this practice is the right one for your kids.
I also agree with the other reviewers that the staff needs to have more customer service skills. The service was always less than friendly.

Couldn't Be Happier

by Tracy G.

I just love Capital Area Ashburn Village Pediatrics. They have always cared for my child like their own. They are non-judgmental and that is hard to find these days. I will always take my child and anymore more babies I have there.

Not Impressed at All

by Anonymous

I am new to the area from out of state and was quite shocked to walk into this office after it was recommended by a colleague. Aside from a bit of painting, one would not even know it was a pediatrician's office from its appearance. The receptionist was pleasant but all pleasantries ended there. The doctor and accompanying nurse lacked warmth and not even a smile or a few words were offered to my children.

Maybe it's this area, but the waiting room was quite stark. Not a children's book or activity in sight. Very strange and I don't think they just moved in to this office space either. After only a minute or so, my kids started asking to leave.

Bottom line is I want a place where my children feel welcome and where I feel the same comfort to bring them there, have a dialogue with the physicians, and follow their recommendations. This was definitely not the place for me.

Two Standout Doctors, Receptionists Could Use Customer Service Skills

by Sonya S.

My 3 year old daughter has been going to CAPAVP since she was born. I've always been very impressed with Dr. Shirley and the care my daughter receives from her. The other standout pediatrician is Dr. Lisa. We prefer to see her when Dr. Shirley is not available. The other doctors and nurse practictioners, physicians assistants are decent, but none of them truly impress me. They are extremely friendly, but friendliness won't make my daughter feel better when she's sick. My problem with CAPAVP is that the receptionists are not very friendly, with the exception of Jessica who I don't think is there any longer. I've gotten into a verbal altercation with one of them, who is no longer there either.I actually requested my daughter's medical records because I was no longer going to take her there because of this one receptionist. The receptionist who took Jessica's place doesn't wow me either. Nurse Gayle, who I assume is like a triage nurse, seems bored when she returns phone calls. It feels like she thinks there's better things she could be doing. If Dr. Shirley were to leave we'd have to follow her. There's no way I'd continue to take my daughter there.

Friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff

by Diane K. | insider Insider | Rank: 24,910

Being a first time mother, I was very concerned about the pediatric office that I took my daughter to. From the very first time I brought my daughter to Capital Area Pediatrics Ashburn Village office, I , along with my child, have been treated wonderfully. The doctors are very friendly, knowledgeable and non-judgemental. The nurses have always shown compassion and move quickly, especially when it's time for shots. I have only had to bring my child in once for an illness. It was during evening hours and the receptionist was great. She kept calm and fit us into the schedule instantly, thus alleviating any fears I had in waiting this illness out. I can't say enough about how much I appreciate having a great group so close by.
