Amphora Bakery

My fiancee and I made a wedding cake tasting appointment and had a great experience. Our consultant, Loretta, could not have been more sweet or helpful. She listened to our flavor preferences and brought out a nice selection of flavors to try. I had a picture of the exact cake I wanted and said they could absolutely replicate the cake design. The cake flavors were of course all delicious and moist, especially the liquor flavored ones. At the end of the appointment, we got a very reasonable quote in writing, and some extra cake to take home from us. A pretty good experience all around, and I feel very confident that Amphora can deliver a beautifully decorated and great-tasting wedding cake!

I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter's birthday. I gave them the design and gave clear instructions on what I want, but to my surprise, when the cake was delivered to that day before the party, it was all decorated in blue. it looked totally a boyish cake and not for a girl's birthday. when i called the herndon office, the manager spoke to me and she said she cannot do anything, she has to attend to other things which was important than my cake and she just hung up on me, that was very rude of them. they were the rudesh people i have ever seen. Terrible experience.

I used to be able to walk into Amphora Bakery and pick up a really good cake; maybe a bit more expensive than some other places - but I thought the cakes were worth it. Since they have relocated (a minor change - one building back) a lot has changed: on the positive side, the decor is nicer; while on the negative side, the prices increased; the cakes are smaller for the price; the walk in selection is lousy; the cakes taste dryer; and the flavor does not seem to be as intense. I can understand an increase in price due to flour costs and fuel increasing, but not this much combined with the size decrease. They have also stopped carrying many items that I was used to seeing and buying - such as bread and rolls and a great selection of pastries and cookies...maybe you can special order them; but the wide variety of selections previously available are no longer in the cases. I have enjoyed this bakery for over 15 years...it is disappointing to see the changes. They have changed from being a good bakery - to being just mediocre - why??

We went there when I was lookign for my wedding cake. We had made an appointment for a tasting and told them what types of cake flavors I wanted 2 weeks in advance, as requested.
We went and they made me wait an hour. Then they brought out flavors I didn't want and told me that I'd have to make an appointment to try the flavors I'd requested (we did, 2 weeks before). Then told me that they didn't *allow* wedding cakes in anything but chocolate and vanilla--even if we didn't mind a sheetcake or other non-fancy shape and they'd sell other flavors for different events.
Needless to say, we went with someone else.
Had their cake at my baby shower. It okay. Not worth dealing with the nonsense they throw at you.

I ordered, as they say 3 days, in advance for a cake on my wife's birthday. I went there and they didn't have it ready. I ordered for pick up in Vienna and they forgot to deliver to Vienna from Herndon. Cake is the only best thing they do, and they screwed up in that too. Also they offered another one which was different in looks from what they have on their website. I was like you should sell me what I ordered looking at your website. Bottomline I dont recommend. If I pay so much for a damn cake you better give me proper service.

Amphora Bakery is connected to their restaurant, but I went there to taste their wedding cake samples, wow, they were tasty! I had a friend who bought her cake from there for her wedding and it was delicious. The samples they brought out were huge and plenty. Just call ahead to make an appointment, they have tons of flavors to choose from and are reasonably priced (for wedding cake!)

I have had cakes from this place at many parties and we buy sometimes too. They are delicious. They run out of stock sometimes if you go impromptu for a pastry. It is a bit on the expensive side but I think that is true for most small bakeries.
