The staff at Old Town is great. I have been bringing my pets there for several years. They have acupuncture that I have been doing with my cat. She feels great afterwards and you can barley tell that she has joint problems. This hospital work with you to find the best treatment for your pet.

They listen to me. I've been to other vets where my pet and I where just numbers in a computer. They treat the pets & owners like family. The front desk is great--they always great us by name. I know that all medicine is expensive. For animals or people, but I know at Old Town they will give us the best care

I first came to VCA 11.5 years ago after we found our dog in Rock Creek Park. She was about 9 months old. The vet check for a microchip and brought Honey dog up to date on shots. They have never insisted on unnecessary vaccines or anything else. Everyone has always been helpful, friendly and kind--when Honey needed a cancerous tumor removed 18 months ago-they did the surgery-called me with results and follow up. When arthritis immobilized her suddenly three years ago--they took care of her and the meds made all the difference--she could walk and play again within 2 weeks. She is in her end of life time now and they are extraordinarily supportive. Drs. McClean, Reed-Angela, Jessica, India and the young techs.

My family has used Old Town Hospital for 8+ years. I have seen each vet at least once or twice. They are very compassionate. They treat your pet as if they are theirs. Last year, I had my 14 year old cat put down--they were right by my side until the end. I could not have asked for more.

I have been going to Old Town for 6+ years. They have never given my dog a Giardia vaccine. They test for it once a year in my dog's stool. I know that one of the reasons we began using Old Town is because they are AAHA certified. I think the person below is thinking of Banfield. My sister goes to the one in Alexandria by Target and her dog gets every vaccine you can think of. I think that they puppy below got tested for giardia not the shot.
Dr. Maclean & Dr. Cheema, & Angela are great!

If you think your vet should follow the guidelines for treatment recommend by the AAHA and US veternarian medical schools, don't bring your dog here. For example, my new puppy received a combo vaccine here which included giardia. Well, the AAHA latest guidelines for vaccine recommendations says the giardia vaccine is not recommended (among others)! Why? because it doesn't prevent giardi according to published studies. Read here: http://www.aahanet.org/resources/guidelines_canine.aspx
They do this just to make a buck - they don't follow common sense or good practice when treating pets. There are other vaccines as well like leptospirosis- which they will talk you into and which is noncore or not required. No they won't tell you this, or explain this to you.
Further, my dog has come down with giardia twice since getting this vaccine from VCA which he didn't need and is not recommended.
I would use extreme caution when taking my pet to a vet who doesn't follow the latest guidelines set forth by AAHA.

I have been using VCA since 2004. I adopted a dog who was (unknown to me) found to be terminally ill. The vets and staff treated her with so much care. They said 6-8 weeks left. With their research and willingness to try different therapies, she was comfortable for another 8 months. I appreciated the collaborative way they worked for this dear girl. My next dog had a torn ligament which we got a good surgery referral and the VCA vets followed up with me to make sure it all went well. On balance, they are not cheap, but I've never had a problem getting into the office.

Went there for my new puppy. The vet (we saw a couple over the course of the puppy shots) insisted on many different foods, treats, and procedures which were overly expensive and not needed. I had the same experience of not being super wealthy, yet having all these charges thrown at me on my bill. For instance, an assistance charged me $30 to show me how to put drops in my puppies ears - which was ridiculous since I clearly can do this myself and don't need to be charged to be shown!!!! And it was an assistant, not the vet. Anyway, for three months worth of puppy vaccines/food/treatment I spent around $1500. I will never go back there.

The staff at this hospital is so rude and uncaring. the only exception was the receptionist Jessica who was very nice. Doctor Pohl treated me like I was an idiot! They really get you by charging for every possible thing they can. When I tried to explain that I am a recent graduate who is job searching and doesn't have a lot of money, she tried to make me feel bad for not having all kinds of money to do this unnecessary tests! She didn't listen to a word I said and then repeatedly kept telling me that I really needed to do this for my pets health. Lady do I need to spell it out for you....I DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY! She talked to me like I was a little kid, who was dumb or something. Not to mention when I picked up my dog from being kennelled there. One of the technicians said to me "oh your here to pick up "my dog" ". When I said yes, she proceeded to laugh hysterically. When I asked why she was laughing she said "oh nothing" and then every time she looked at me started to crack up again. How rude is that? I want to know what happened to my dog while she was there to make this woman laugh so hard without telling me! I have nightmares about what might have gone on when I left her there. My dog was freaking out when we got home! She was really shaken up, and had massive diarrhea for a week straight! This never happens. They also brought out the wrong food, even though her food was labeled in three different places by myself in bold black letters, and had their own hospital label sticker. They didn't give her any of the treats I left for her, despite the fact that I gave specific instructions to do so. Please, do not take your pets here! Do not trust them! I wouldn't wish anyone to have the horrible experience I had, or my pet had.
