Colonial Animal Hospital is not great

by Beth H.

Poor overall care. It seems very isolated and there are never any clients there. The front staff was poorly trained and low caliber. I 'm not sure if I caught them on a bad day but I am not going back!

Rought start due to bad receptionist, but good experiences otherwise

by Michaela T.

We love Dr. Fennel! She explains everything, is EXTREMELY friendly, and doesn't make you feel rushed (even on the busy days). We were very impressd with her and her staff for the first visit, so brought our puppy back for the weekly treatments. Unfortunately, due to an unattentive technician, our second visit did not go so well. Our 4 mos old puppy was there all day and was given NO food! We gave them food in the morning when we dropped her off at 0800, but the technician we spoke with apparently told the other staff that we did not bring in any food. Not sure why they wouldn't feed our puppy something they had at the clinic even if we hadn't given them anything rather than let him starve on an already stressful day. The technician we spoke to in the morning did not come out to apologize. We almost went someplace else, but REALLY liked Dr Fennel so we gave them one more chance. We have been extremely pleased with every visit since that Mar 09 visit. We now have 2 dogs that we bring to Colonial and love the care and attention they receive. Unfortunaly, they seem to charge a little higher than some of the other vets, but not too much. We enjoy the care and convenience of the location so are willing to pay for it.

Think twice about bringing your pet here

by Anonymous A.

Poor care: The clinic was okay on routine vet appointments, but incompetent when it came to post surgery care. They sent our dog home with a collar/cone that was way too small and allowed her easy access to her stitches, suggesting they didn't monitor her the day and a half after the procedure. The vet and technician gave us conflicting information about the reason why extra stitches were left in.

Poor customer service: When I came in to get a larger collar/cone, the technician made no apologies for the wrong size, which resulted in our dog pulling out some of the stitches prematurely over night. They also charged us over a $100 more for the procedure than estimated with no explanation. When the technician called us in for the appointment, she called out a completely different name with absolutely no letters or sounds in common with ours (with no apology or acknowledgment), suggesting that customer service isn't a priority for this clinic as we don't have a difficult name and had been going here reg

Excellent Hospital

by Tom W.

I am in the military and have changed veterinarians over the years. After 7 moves I have found the Animal Hospital I want to take with me. I have used Colonial Animal Hospital for the last 2 years and can only give them praise. They have given my 4 pets excellent care. They can always fit me in when I call. The hospital is designed well and most importantly to me, does not smell like an animal hospital. The doctors have been top notch and the staff has been polite and helpful. Alas it is time to move again and I am hoping to find a vet 1/2 as good as Colonial Animal Hospital. If I ever move back to the Springfield, VA area, Colonial will be my only choice.

Colonial is friendly, efficient neighborhood asset!

by Anonymous

Colonial Animal Hospital has been very good to my greyhounds. The doctors and staff are professional, caring, and attentive. I was able to get in 10 minutes before closing one day for a suture! Saved me a trip to the 24-hour ER Vet. Dr. Hudson is the best! Highly recommend.

Maybe a bad day?

by Anonymous

The location is a little difficult. The lobby was very nice (small) but the receptionist was not with it. I know people have bad days but I did not have a good feeling. The Dr. was nice but was trying real hard and definitely after the almighty buck. I was recommended to the place but it'll certainly be the last time I go there.

Absolutely Top Notch

by Annie B.

What a terrific place!! I took my Siamese cat in for dental cleaning and extractions, and I was so worried about the anesthesia because hes old. Dr. Hudson really set my mind at rest they have lab machines to do the blood tests there, so Percy didnt have to come back for a second visit, they just did everything the day of the dental. Plus, they called me to let me know he was out of the anesthesia and doing fine! They really took good care of Percy he was just like his old self that night, and has been doing great ever since. They even called the next day to be sure he was okay. I really feel like the doctors and staff at Colonial cared about Percy, and about my peace of mind.

Very Professional Hospital

by Jennifer W.

I just read the previous review and as a 20 year dog breeder I felt the need to respond. I have used Colonial for my veterinary care for 15 years and I am extremely pleased with them. I have my puppies docked within the first 3 days. After 3 days the procedure can be too painful without anesthesia. I usually try to have it done on the second day but that can vary due to scheduling issues. An experienced breeder knows that puppy mortality is highest during those first few days and there are many stress factors that can cause newborn puppies to die. With my 20 years of experience I still probably have a 1% mortality rate. I doubt the vet told the previous reviewer they could not come in as I can always get an appointment. I suspect he told them there was minimal veterinary care available for a 2 day old pup. A experienced breeder knows nursing care is most important thing these newborns. I have hand fed numerous puppies over the years. I strongly recommend Colonial Animal Hospital and plan to take

Lack Professionalism

by Anonymous

Lack Professionalism
I took my new born puppy here to get his tail docked, as a vetnarian they should have provided their expertise on the correct and healthy age to dock puppies tails (48hrs of age). Instead he docked it that day (15 hrs of age) instead of telling and advising and suggesting an older age (2-3 days) of age to dock the tails. My puppy became weak after the tail docking did not make it. When I called him for advice his response "some dogs just don't make it" instead of allowing me to bring him in for a checkup which i asked if I could the vet did NOT allow it. His advice was some dogs just die instead of offering more advice. Will not ever come back. My puppy died.

First class facility and a well thought out design which is only surpassed by the attentiveness of staff and compassionate Veterinarians that truly care about their patients.

Love and admiration

by skeeter s.

We have used this vet for close to 20 years. The new owners and the new location have improved on the excellent. They combine a state of the art and very attractive facility with impressive knowledge and always important empathy. It's wonderful to know we can trust the care of our animal companions to the doctors and staff here. They have been there for us through many joys and sorrows.
