My husband and I are connoisseurs of Russian cuisine and have been to the best Russian restaurants in NY, L.A., San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, D.C.. and probably other places I'm forgetting. This is our second favorite Russian restaurant in the U.S. next to the Russian Tea House in Chicago.

While this is not the authentic Russian that I ate while I lived in the former USSR for a couple years, it is an gourmet and French-influenced improvement upon it. It's a rather small menu, but everything is done well. The pelmeni are probably the furthest departure from authenticity, but still very palatable. The dish to order each and every time though is the golubtsy. The pungent, sweet and sour tomato sauce is heaven on a plate.

We have had some poor and some horrible experiences with the vastly understaffed service. If the food was not so wonderful we would have walked out after waiting an hour to have our ORDER TAKEN. The staff ar polite, just too few in number.

My advice is go on weeknight or early on a weekend, and enjoy the golubtsy.

Having lived in Russia for 3 years, I was very pleased by the food they had to serve. Ice cold vodka, good caviar. Excellent fare.

If you're looking for something new to try, Russia House is a great place.

My wife and I have been to The Russian House Restaurant several times for dinner. The food is very good if you are looking for a change from the everyday restaurant experience. The service has always been prompt and courteous. The atmosphere is elegant, making it a great place to take your spouse for a special night out.

PROS: Excellent food and atmosphere.
CONS: A little pricey and difficult parking on Friday nights

I travel quite a bit and eat out a lot. When im in the Herndon area I have to visit this place. The food is flat out spectacular. Its Mid-Upper scale. With soup and dinner and tip it came to 45.

They are supposed to be famous for thier Duck Breast with Sour Cherries, but after talking to the waitress and telling her I wanted to try something Authentic she said the Georgian Duck was very Russian and her favorite, so I indulged. Its a seasoned Duck Breast on a russian saurkraut bed, with some veggies and red cabbage on the side and it was very tasty. I also started out with some Borscht.

If your a drinker I noticed that they had like at least 15 different flavors of Vodka on the menu. and Cavier on the appetizer list ranging from $16 for Salmon to $99 for Buluga
