I love BBQ. I learned about PQ's from a co-worker and decided to give this place a try. My family walked in and were greeted by friendly staff. We were seated immediately. The atmosphere is ultra casual. It reminds me of an indoor picnic. They offer a great lunch special which includes a regular BBQ sandwich with or without coleslaw, plus two sides. My husband and I ordered the lunch special. For our sides, I had the butter bean and corn mixture and potato salad. My husband had mixed greens and black-eyed peas and stewed tomatoes. Two of my three daughters ordered a kids BBQ sandwich both had Brunswick Stew. One daughter had waffle fries and the other had coleslaw. My middle daughter ordered a corn dog with fries. The BBQ simply melts in your mouth. I do not like big chunks of meat. I prefer finely pulled Pork and that is what they offer at PQ's. The portion size is perfect. I loved the potato salad. My husband raved about the black-eyed peas and stewed tomatoes. The corn dog was amazing. They use the same batter they use for their hush puppies, and it was wonderful! We were going to order dessert, but were very full after our meal. I highly recommend this place if you want a casual lunch or dinner, a reasonable price, great comfort food, and friendly service! PQ's has earned a customer for life with my family.

This is your "hole in the wall", great food, local favorite joint. PQ's has been serving some of the best barbecue, ribs that go beyond finger licking, brunswick stew how it should be, and veggies this side of the mason-dixon and it won't hurt my families feelings if it stays one of the best kept secrets around town.
Our neighborhood gets together every year and has used these guys to cater our annual event. They bring all the supplies, including this massive double decker grill, and cook a whole hog on site. Chances are if you been to an event around town that served awesome barbecue, it came from PQ's.

Pros: good service, friendly, best comfort food ever!

Cons: NONE

I went with my wife and 2 young daughters. I ordered the ribs & bbq pork combo meal ($18). with Baked beans and cole slaw. The ribs were fatty and grissly and there was no spectacular taste that everyone is talking about. You'll have better ribs at TGI Fridays. The bbq pork was average and once again nothing to write home about. My wife had the ribs too and agreed with my findings. I ordered 12 additional hushpuppies, as only 2 come with each meal. They were the only thing that actually came out "hot". They tasted good, but more like a fried donut than an authentic hushpuppy. My first taste of cole slaw tasted like Bactine. I'm not sure if it was a combination of the bbq sauce meeting the cole slaw or what, but it was certainly an odd taste. If it were not for the extra 12 hushpuppies we ordered, I would have left hungry. Our bill, with tip was $60.00!! Not a cheap meal when you consider you could go to Outback for that price. Plus, the meal came out in about 3 minutes, so you know it's all just sitting back there. The service was very good and the wait staff very friendly. The unsweet tea was good too.

Those who say this is great BBQ are probably people that think they can get a good sub in Virginia too. Well, sorry folks, you can't. I was looking soo forward to finding a great BBQ place close to home. I'll keep trying and post about it when I find it.

If you're hell bent on trying this place, go slow and go cheap and just get a bbq sandwich. Stay away from the ribs. If you have to drive more thn 10 miles to get to this place, it's time to re-think your dinner plans!

I love this place. My problem is that they are hardly ever open when I plan parties and need them. They have lost a lot of business from me just because I can't depend on them to be open. Barbeque is a dish that people like to serve for special celebrations and if they aren't open then it is a big let down. I was just reading the review and I agree that is kind of rude to not let people be seated if they arrive before closing time. Both of these complaints lead the customer to feel like they are not all that important to the owners. Seems like the owners after all this time should have people they can trust to run the place when the owners are on vacation.

We eat here often and are never disappointed. Not at all fancy. Just good, friendly service, good food, reasonably priced. Certainly a local favorite!

Very good barbecue, worth the trip, but I'd prefer regular fries to the waffle variety. HOWEVER, they say they're open until 8:00 pm, but I was refused a seat at 7:30 because they were going to close soon! If you say you're open til 8, STAY OPEN UNTIL 8! I'll miss the good barbecue.

Pros: Good barbecue

Cons: Won't serve within a half hour of closing; down-home style, but regulars are treated better

Oh wow, what can I say except that this little place just serves some darn good barbecue! I'm not typically a barbecue person myself, but my husband just loves hole-in-the-wall good eatin' and this place serves it up just like that!

Actually, it's quite a cute little place with checkered tablecloths and plastic forks. It is what it is, and when you're serving pulled pork barbecue and barbecued chicken as good as they are, well it's more than enough. What they offer is simply outstanding. Don't forget the greens, some of the best I've ever had at a restaurant period.

Simple menu, simple place, but in my opinion some of the best barbecue on the southside!!!
