Prince William Family Medicine is wonderful for us

by Rae B.

My family has been seeing PWFM for MANY years. We have nothing but GREAT things to say about the staff and the drs/PA's. Many times I have been able to get same day (in some cases same hr. appts!). I have on many occasions recommended them and will continue to do so

whos' my doctor?/staff is terrible and uncaring

by m t.

I have been a patient at PWFM and am currently looking for another family doctor. I started out with a great impression in my first visit when I saw Dr. D'Abreu. Since, however, I am always seen by a questionable quality physicians assistant or nurse.

Last year when I called to schedule a flu shot they informed me they were out. I asked to be called when they had more in stock and was told in no uncertain terms by a very rude receptionist that that is not their practice to call patients. When I said I was a current patient, she said she did not care "we don't call current patients either".

Dr. Desai is excellent!

by Cheryl H.

I read the other comments and decided to add my own. We switched from Kaiser Permanente to Pr Wm Family Medicine because of cost and a recommendation from a family friend for Dr. Desai. My husband has improved dramatically from his diagnosis and treatment. He talked us both into colonoscopies, which we were most reluctant to have and actually delayed many years. Both of us had findings which, if left undiagnosed and untreated, would have resulted in cancer. He has knowledge about so many different areas and makes appropriate referrals when necessary. We could have switched last open season - again - due to cost, yet decided to stay because of Dr. Desai. We have been happy with impromptu visits this winter due to sinus infections seeing the Physician's Assistants because they also provide immediate and successful care. I agree that the front and checkout staffs need some warm fuzzies. I love the new facility - it's immaculate.

Lousy staff / Practitioners also could use a nudge to get better.

by Anonymous

I have been going to PWFM since my provider joined them about 6-8 years ago.
You are first greeted by the reception staff who, along with having absolutely no compassion that you may be sick, treat you as if your time (off from work) could in no way be of any value to them (i.e. Sign in, give us your copay, go sit and wait).
If, after having signed in over 20 min. ago, you ask how much longer you're expected to wait, you are treated as a complainer, and they have no desire to check for you, or inform you up front the provider is running behind. The medical staff in the back are a step up from the front desk staff. They, at least, treat you more human-like and actually seem as if they are happy theyre there to assist your provider to help you.
My provider has always been an excellent caregiver, and seems to care more than the other 3 providers I have seen there combined. She makes you feel like your problem is also her problem, and she wants to be there to help you. Unfortunately, that treatment ends when she leaves that exam room. You are left to find your way out of the practice maze, or to find where Check-out is, should you need a follow up. The only reason I continue to go to this assembly line of appointments is because of my provider. We have a 9 year history together, and sometimes I am not sure that is enough glue to hold me there. To the practice administrators, I ask you read this with an open mind, and realize this is the customer disservice most of your patients are receiving on a daily basis.

Excellent

by JD E.

I would highly recommend PWFM. I have been a patient of this practice since 1982, and despite moving 40 plus miles away, I still come to Manassas when neccesary. The doctors are excellent, the staff polite, and the new office is extremely clean and comfortable!

Do Not Bring Your Children Here

by Anonymous

Your child will have rotating doctors and most often be seen by physician assistants than nurses or doctors.

The billing office doesn't seem to know what they are doing either.
They don't know how to code documents properly and you will be pestered with bills becuase they can't read a medical card.

I'm also concerned about their hygenic standards..

Disappointing service

by Anonymous

I was very disappointed with my first (and last) visit to Prince William Family Medicine. I did not see a physician - I saw a nurse practitioner who ordered expensive (and in my opinion, unnecessary) tests. I ended up with no diagnosis, and a rather large bill from the practice. I expressed my disappointment in a professional letter to one of the physicians (as I was asked to do by the office manager), and the only reply I received was a phone call from another member of the admin. staff who stated that the physician read my letter, but that we were now "back to square one". I did not think the situation was handled in a professional or courteous manner.

Nothing but good service

by Deb G.

I've had nothing but good service from the admin staff, nurses, and doctors at Prince William Family Medicine. They've been very responsive, especially in urgent situations. My family and I have been able to get timely appointments, as well as being "worked in" on several occasions when it was warranted. When we first switched to PWFM several years ago, my husband and I both had existing & lingering medical conditions which had been treated by other physicians. We were both surprised that the doctors at PWFM changed our regimens and achieved much better results for us. I couldn't be happier with the treatment my family and I have received. Also - we have never had a problem with the filing of insurance claims or any other administrative procedures. Kudos to everyone at this firm.

PROS: Good people, responsive, timely appointments, happy with medical results.
CONS:

Good Docs, Lousy Staff

by Paula F. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,518

I was a patient at Prince William Family Medicine. It's hard to get a same-day appointment if you're sick. The staff is rude, and messes up your insurance claims more often than they get them right. I switched because of the admin staff. I couldn't handle the hassle.

PROS: Lousy staff
CONS: Good Docs

Wait time

by Utpal S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,628

The doctors here are good but I have had a couple of issues admin wise which makes me think again..The lab work takes a long time and you really have to wait to be taken as well as to get the results back from them. Also, I had put in order for mail order prescription and when they contacted this center and doc for approvals, they never responded! This made them cancel my order and now I have to jump though hoops to get the medicine.
