I took my 17 and 8 year old daughters to get their hair cut today. It was a place I will not go back to again.

Both had different stylist, neither seemed to be able to understand English. Both styles were not done correctly.

My 8 year old's stylist was rough and rude. When I asked to have her hair layered and thinned, she did a blunt cut of 1/4 inch.

My 17 year old wanted her hair to look "shaggy" at the tips. She even showed the stylist a picture. Her hair was three layers of blunt cut tips, no layering done. He bangs were almost non-existent. One side of her head was about 1 1/2" longer than the other and the tips flip out on one side and under on the other.

Definately not going back there!

After living in the area for 5 years and spending over a year finding a place I actually like took some time. At bubles had a lady i liked but she left and the others there didn't do as well. Went to a salon and loved the hair cut and very nice people. However the price just never added up for me. So I came to this place first few cuts were ok. For the most part they are nice people here. Then I found the lady I have been going to for 4 years now. She does a great job. She knows your name and you can make apointments with her. Highly recomend her. WHen you go pay attention to who is being requested and look at what hair cuts they perform. It's the only way to learn who to go to.

Though it was crowded, I have to say, for the price, they did a really good job with the mop of hair on my head. You could tell that the person who cut my hair didn't speak English for their first language. Nevertheless, through sign language and pictures, she did a good job. I'd go back.

Went to the Hair Cuttery in Potomac Yard this afternoon. Left with a great cut and highlight, but the salon atmosphere was just awful. Hair all over the floor. Tiny salon, tiny waiting area. Very crowded. No receptionist. While I was getting my hair done, a few customers came in and my stylist instructed them to go behind the counter and enter their names into the computers themselves!! (i though this was the receptionist's job). Phone was ringing off the hook. Not the relaxing salon environment. I will go to hair cuttery again, but not this one. Maybe try the one in shirlington, it looks cleaner.

Kay is their color specialist and stylist. I have been going to her for almost 3 years and have never been disappointed. She has been with Hair Cuttery over 20 years and loves working for them and just can't think to leave them. Thank God! She could easily have her own salon and ask for over $200 per color and style. Don't tell her I would pay that though! With tip I pay about $130 but I am very generous with tips! Very! I will never go anywhere else as long as I live in Alexandria or surrounding area! She is Alexandria's best kept secret but she still has a lot of loyal customers! Tell her Rebecca B. sent you!

i went to hair cuttery to get a spiral perm and left with a nightmare.i told trish i wanted a loose perm, what i got is close to a jerry curl. i don't know if they can do white peoples hair or not , but my hair is fried, ruined. she was told to trim the dead ends off and cut 3 inches instead. i have never been so upset in my life.

I have been going to the Hair Cuttery for several years now. I have never had a bad experience or a bad hair cut. They listen to what you want and do whatever you tell them, but they will also do what they think is best if that's what you want. The price here is great, at only $14 for a shampoo and hair cut. Of course, you should add a tip to that, so paying $16 is a great price. The quality is top notch. I have tried going to nicer barbers and salons but they just never listen to me. You can make appointments or just walk in. On occasion I have had to wait a few minutes, but most of the time its just walk in and sit down.

PROS: Low price, high quality hair cuts
CONS: Sometimes you have to wait

You may feel tempted not to go into a chain barbershop, but this one seems to make you want to enter. The've got a number of professionals working on different sets of hair at the same time, all the while providing great hair cuts, and good advice for those that need it.

Although I use different hair stylists every time I enter because I don't typically like to wait forever to get my haircut, they all end up giving me a great haircut, and I feel like a new person.

The place is kept relatively clean, and parking is never an issue as it's in the Potomac Yard shopping center. It's also not expensive at all ($14) and very convenient, as it's located right on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway)
