I bought 4 DVD and few books-all for children activities. After 2 days I realized that I did a mistake and I already had one of the DVD's. I tried to returned after 4 days even for a credit store, but customer service did not want even to hear about returning the DVD. I played honestly and I admitted that the buying that DVD was a mistake. They did not want to listen to e. I gave up, left the DVD and the receipt on the counter and thanks for the business! Never, ever a business with them! Shop online on Amazon where you can at least find better deals!

If you remember the cretins who worked for Tower Records and helped run that great store into the ground, you'll be in for a bit of unwanted nostalgia when you encounter the blockheads at McKays. Setting a poor example for the younger kids who seem to want to act professionally are the obviously miserable supervisors with their customer service skills sorely lacking, and their obviou rudeness seemingly intent upon bringing what was once a great dstore down. Hold your nose when you approach them, cause the deals are still first rate!

We just moved here and while unpacking put aside items that we really didn't need anymore. I brought a bunch of kid videos and old books here and was given $60 in store credit! What a great deal!

I was delighted to find a local used book store. I had been eyeing several titles on Amazon (as well as in Amazon Marketplace used books), but thought how nice it would be if I could get these titles locally and save money. Turns out, not so much. I entered the store with specific titles in mind and not a lot of time. I was told I would have the search the shelves myself since they could not check title availability in their computer.

PROS: Friendly staff, good to excellent organization of materials, ample parking, good location for Loudoun/Fairfax/Prince William Co. dwellers.

CONS: The biggest turn off was that they claim to be unable to search their inventory by computer. Having worked years both in libraries and bookstores, I must say, it is NONSENSE not to have this capability - it would not be too difficult to begin adding titles as they buy them. After all - they have somehow managed to generate store barcode labels for each title.

Second, many of their prices were not competitive with what I found online for the same titles used (including shipping!), and in some cases, new. Again, this is taking shipping and handling into account. So, for what I wanted they are not a good deal.

Example:
The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck (Washington Square Press edition)
McKay price for used, very good condition: $10.00
Amazon Marketplace price for used, new condition: $1.85 + $3.99 shipping Amazon.com new book price: $10.20

Example:
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (Hardcover)
McKay price for used, very good condition: $13.00
Amazon Marketplace price for used, very good condition: $4.20 + $3.99 S&H

I would recommend McKay to anyone who has plenty of time to browse. I might skip it unless they add a computerized inventory search. If they did that, I might even be willing to pay their higher prices and walk out, book in hand! I still plan to return there, but under different circumstances.

This place is great. I don't know of that many used bookstores around my area, so this is the one I've been going to. The books are cheap and in great condition and they even have a pretty cool selection of movies/music. Definitely worth checking out!

We bought a bunch of Sesame street books for our 2 yr old for about 10c each! You cannot find a better bargain on these. The condition of the books is pretty good too. We are so glad we found this place and keep going back.

I agree with the other reviewer that it's a bit disorganized, but honestly I can see where it's tough to keep things straight when the customers can't be bothered to put their rejects back into even the same section let alone the same shelf. I mean, how many times do you see people just drop a whole stack of books on a shelf like they belong there and walk away? Not to mention letting their kids use the store as a personal playpen. I know I would get tired of it too. But the biggest draw is that the books are cheap. And once you start paying a legion of people to put them in order they're not so cheap anymore. I like the search, sometimes I stumble across stuff I would never have known existed.

PROS: cheap books!

I enjoy visiting this store, but I down graded them due to unorganization. It is hard to look through cd's when they are all clumped together by one letter, there has to be a better way to do that.
