I took lessons several years ago. As a leftie it was difficlut to find someone willing to teach me, but Margaret Murray, one of the owners took the challenge and I am now knitting baby sweaters for a group of ladies who take them to "Babies in Need". I am in and out of their shop as I have many questions when working on new patterns. I ALWAYS find them helpful with all my knitting needs.

Although this store has a good selection, it seems to have dwindled over time. I am still forced to go to several yarn stores to find what I need. Their prices are kinda high in the wool department. God forbid you ask for anything related to crocet. I was shocked to pay $30 for one skein of hand painted wool. I am sure the people who work there are nice, but not to others who don't look the part. I have been knitting for 10 years and am quite knowledgeable, but here I am treated like a theif or something due to all of my obvious tattoos and peircings. I have tried several times to shop here and EVERY time I get treated like I have a disease. Better yet, there have been times that I am totally ignored so they can chit chat it up with their "preferred" customers. They need to wake up and realize that LOTS of walks of life enjoy the traditions of knitting. I hope to find a better yarn supplier soon since The Hook And I is now gone. Another con is that the store is closed on Sunday. I know most busy people tend to shop on the weekend, as do I, and it seems I always need something on Sunday...when all yarn shops are closed.

As a military wife I decided to occupy my time with a new skill back in 2002. Margaret the instructor was so wonderful teaching me how to knit I still consult her today at this shop on all my knitting projects. She is always helpful and guides me through new patterns and assists with selecting the right yarn. I highly recommend this store for beginners and advanced knitters because they are helpful and let you come in with your project and "chat" at the table as you work on your project. The atmosphere is inviting and the ladies all share their stories about life. This is what knitting is all about- non stressful and therapeutic.

I found this shop when I was lost in VA Beach.

Although it is a small store the prices are great and very affordable. They hold crocheting and knitting classes and the woman behind the counter was very helpful in helping me decide what kind of yarn was best for my project. At the time of my visit they had a large selection of Plymouth yarns.

I wish the location was in a more quiet area. Sure it is very accessible from I-264, but it is very hard to get out of during rush hour.

PROS: Very helpful staff
CONS: Hard to leave parking lot during peak hours.
