Mr. Jenkins was a kind but strict gentleman. We were there shortly before his death when he was house-bound and things at the campground had started down-hill with campers taking advantage, lots of noise all night, children running through other campers' sites uninvited, etc., just one long party for some of them and no rest for the others. (Yes, I have children--I just keep them under control.) I hope the next generation will be as strict as Mr. Jenkins was. We've certainly enjoyed the facilities over the years.

Latest information on Naylors Beach is the senior Mr. Jenkins passed away August 9, 2011 and his family, daughter and son, are trying to run the business now. We understand they weren't involved in running it before. We went for the day and everything seems pretty much the same. Thankfully, the bushes along the parking area have been cut down and it looks so much better. There are no amenities that are typical of other campgrounds in the area, just lots of grass, trees, picnic tables, boat ramp, view of the river and large group shelters for picnicking. The bath houses needs lots of work which is the way its been for a long time.
I agree, Jessica was very unprofessional in her comments and she may no longer be there since we did not see her when we were there. We need to give the new owners time to get a handle on things and make necessary changes.

Response from this business:

Thanks for your comments. You are correct in saying that the Jenkins family will continue to run Naylor's Beach. Please bear with us during the transition. We look forward to seeing you this summer and are working hard to provide your family the best experience possible!

TABLES
I recently visited Naylors beach on Memorial Day weekend. We arrived around 11AM and there were plenty of empty tables as well as a shelter that was empty. Most of the areas were nice and shady.

THE BEACH
It may be due to recent rain but there was very little sandy beach. Just small bits in the corners of the swimming area. The beach in shallow area is rather rocky. It gets smooth once you get out farther. I didn't have any cuts from the rocks and didn't see glass of bones.

WATERCRAFT/RIVER CONDITIONS
We brought a jetski and had no trouble using their ramp. The waters are rather rough but it was a very windy day. To the left of the beach there is a small bridge. On the other side the water becomes very smooth allowing for high speeds for a short distance. The river was rather empty of what is probably the busy time of year. There were other boats but more than enough room. Docking a Jetski or a boat without a anchor may be of some trouble but we managed to do it.

FOOD
There was a concession stand on the shore raising money for a boy that need open heart surgery. They sold the usual snowcones, candy, hotdog, drinks..... I did not encounter the old man everyone talks about but we did speak to him o the phone. He did seem rude. They did have a charcoal gill and firepit but we brought our own grill and used that.

OVERALL
We had fun for a reasonable cost and plain on going again!

Naylor's Beach has been a family tradition for many years. I remember going there as a child and was so happy to be able to take my children there and make wonderful family memories. It has been a big part of all of our lives for a long time and I cherish those memories. My daughter was only a few weeks old when we took her for her first trip to the beach. My son is now 22 years old and purchased a camper so that he and his friends could carry on the tradition. I only hope that one day I can share this with the next generation because it has given us so much!!

I have grown up at Naylors Beach, since I was 6 wks old ( Im 42) now, camping & just visiting for the day. I love it there!!! It is so peaceful. We have had church picnics there for years. We made alot of good friends there over the years. Will continue to go back there.
I have read the other reviews, the grumpy,
old man on the golf cart is the owner, Mr. Jenkins. BTW...I have never stepped on a catfish skull, my feet have been cut there before on shells but also at Nags Head, Hatteras, Va Beach, also beaches in FL. Even my own backyard where my foot was cut on a piece of glass. Sorry your child experienced that, but it could happen anywhere.
I LOVE NAYLORS BEACH!!!

Wow after reading the other reviews I am in complete shock. I have grown up going to naylors beach and have loved every visit! Mr jenkins is the same ole man he will always be! He's old and a lil grumpy at times but who isn't? As for catfish skulls...that could happen at any public water location. If it happened a va beach do u think someone would come appoligize for nature happening and someone stepping on it! Heck I have stepped on something in my own yard. It happens.I have camped w 5 children ranging from 8 mos to 11 years and had a blast! We have had our family reunions there since I was a lil kid. I will continue to bring my children here year after year and hopefully some day see my grandchildren out there playing. And as always I will gladly wave to mr jenkins on his ole golf cart! Sorry others have had bad experiences here...my family and I have wonderful memories of this amazing place!

My husband and I were there in 2009. We only wanted to launch the boat for the day. They tried to charge us five dollars for launching the boat. Then five dollars a piece for my husband and myself. We were not using the beach at all. What did they think that the boat was going out for the day by itself. Money hungry people.

I have camped at Naylors Beach many times over the years. It was clean, bathrooms were clean and the shower stalls were clean.
I use to take my 3 kids camping there and sometimes stayed weeks at a time. The campers and staff were very friendly!
An elderly man I think he or his family owns the land would ride by on a golf cart and give us fresh veggies! It was always a great time at Naylors!

Our family has been going to Naylor's for decades, and have enjoyed every memorable trip. This is an excellent camping spot for families with a beach, water, electricity and bath facilities.

I went with FIVE children, ranging in age from infant to 15, and we had a completely pleasant experience. The beach was quiet, and clean, the owner (an old man) was very polite and helpful. WE had a GREAT day, and will definitely be returning soon...

I visited Naylor's in Aug. 09 with my two small children. We paid the admission fee for access to the beach for the day. After about 45 minutes at the beach, my 7 year old stepped on a catfish skull as she was playing in the sand. It IMPALED her foot, going completely through. We immediately called 911 and an ambulance came to the beach to get her. The staff of Naylor's campground was aware that we had called 911 but NEVER even walked down to the beach to check on us. As they were loading my child into the ambulance, the owner - an old man - finally got off of his lawn mower and walked to the ambulance. Seeing my child's foot, he said "yep. looks like a catfish." and walked away. My child spent the entire day in the ER and had to undergo outpatient surgery to get the catfish skull out of her foot. It was a horrific experience, made worse by the total disregard the campground showed for my child's situation. I would expect, that as a paying customer at their facility, they would have at least checked to see how they could help as we were waiting for the ambulance. They did not care at all. I have made several calls to Naylor's since the incident and they have all gone unanswered. We will never return to Naylor's Beach.

I have never been treated so rudely at a campground EVER!! My family has camped in many different places and we really enjoy trying out new campgrounds, so when my son decided to attend the college in Warsaw, we did not hesitate to visit the local campgrounds to see where we would like to stay when we come to watch his games. We were greeted by a very rude man, who I am assuming, was the grounds keeper. I had allowed my kids to run over to the beach to see what it looked like while my husband used the restroom. I could tell by the scowl on his face that he was wanting to know why we were there, I quickly and politely explained my reason which evidently was not good enough and asked him questions about the facilities and only received a low grunting noise in response to my questions. He only actually spoke when he demanded to know what my kids were doing and to tell my husband that the restrooms were only for the beach not the public. My husband apologized and we got in the truck and left...NEVER to return!
