Tony's Auto Service

Needed the VA inspection on a car from 96 that I wasn't interested in sinking a lot of money in. The dealership came up with a laundry-list of things, at $2000+. Mind you, I had just had a lot of work done out of state before moving to VA, so I didn't buy it. Took it to Tony's as recommended by a friend.. I needed a new light bulb. Done. Definitely going to be my car place as long as I live in the area.

I've been taking my family cars to Tony's for nearly 30 years. I know cars, and enough auto mechanics to know that they have treated me honestly all that time. They are not the cheapest, but charge a lot less than the dealer and they don't pad their bills with unnecessary work like dealers do. In the long run their reliable and honest work has saved me lots of dough. And I hold onto my cars for 200,000+ miles because Tony's keeps them running so well that there's no point in laying out the big bucks for a new one. Monica T sounds like a jealous competitor's fake criticism - - Tony's people are real and not slick smiley types. As for Theresa F., I don't trust the dealer's word over Tony's. I have 2 of Tony's rebuilt transmissions that have lasted as many miles as the first one. over nearly 30 years, there have been numerous times when Tony's could have charged me a whole lot more based on the car's symptoms, but they were honest and didn't take easy opportunities to pad the bill. In all my experience with them, I think there has been maybe 1 error they made. Besides the fact that I didn't know for sure it was an error, they've been so excellent so often for so long that it would have been stupid to complain. If they aren't perfect mechanics, they're as close as you'll get in this world.

I would give a lower rating if it was offered. I am stranded in California because of Tony's work. My vehicle is a 2001 Isuzu Trooper. Tony worked on it in September, October, November and December 2007. The Isuzu dealer looked at the transmission in September 2008 and said it could not be rebuilt but had to be replaced. Tony refused to listen to the dealer and wouldn't honor his warranty if the dealer worked on it. Tony says he rebuilt the transmission again in October 2008 but 4 weeks later it isn't working again and I'm stranded in California with a car that I can't drive.

This is just a wonderful garage. Honest and low cost. and they know what they are doing! I have been a fleet manager and for many years I went only to the dealers for our Acuras and Infiniti. When the length of the trip and the cost of the service was finally too high, we tried local garages were OK, but as expensive as the dealers and who really weren't very good.

So Tony's: they can't find a problem they don't charge! When I found electrical parts on the internet ,$800 retail, $50 used, they installed them -no guarantee of course.

Well, I dunno what that first guy was talking about, because I experienced a load of bull. They replaced the away bar with an old crappy one in our car and charged way too much money for labor. The only upside is they screwed me over fast and with a smile! :)

These guys do a lot of work: hired cars, airport shuttles, buses, Bentleys and guys like me who live nearby. I go there because I can drop the car off and walk home but I have never gotten anything fishy from them. They have even refused to do work when I had a symptom that wasn't worth worrying about. They have taken care of my Saturn for years and gave a thumbs-up to the used Acura I just bought, saying it should provide me years of inexpensive driving.
