After failing to find generic Tylenol (because of the recall) at four chain stores I called Preston's. I have no idea why we didn't start there in the first place. They had it in stock and they kindly volunteered to hold a bottle for me till I could pick it up later in the day. I had asked the pharmacy clerk at CVS to hold a bottle for me when their shipment came in later in the week and was told that was impossible. Her reasoning: I may forget. Sticking with Preston's!

Welcome aboard thank you for the kind review. We won't forget.

I grew up getting my medicine from Preston's but moved on to a chain when I was older. When that chain accidentally gave my 18 month old Zyrtec instead of Zantac I realized what a lack of personal, careful, skilled service at a chain can mean. When it comes to my kids, I always use Preston's. I have complete trust in their commitment and attention to their work.

Thanks! What a nice review! Thank you, V.F. !! It's people like you who keep us going. We don't have the advertising budget to keep us in the "eye" of the public. Thank you for taking the time to review our store. John

I wish we had found this pharmacy when we moved here two years ago! After filling countless prescriptions at the big chains for a year, we stumbled upon this one "in our own backyard"--we were living just a few blocks away but somehow thought it was a specialty pharmacy and hadn't stopped in.

Now we get all of our prescriptions filled here, because the service is just light years beyond what you get at CVS or Target or Rite-Aid. We got our flu shots here, too, and I believe it was the owner who have them to us. He was wonderful!

They have blocks and a great little table and chair for the tots at the back of the store, and my son loves to play while we are waiting for prescriptions. As another poster mentioned, there are also lots of great cards and gift items. It is just not your typical generic pharmacy--it has a certain charm.

There is only one thing I would like to see change: their receipts for OTC products are very generic and don't specify the medicine or product purchased. This really wouldn't be a problem, except that it makes it difficult when submitting receipts for our flexible spending account reimbursement. (I realized, for instance, that I can't submit our flu shot receipt because it doesn't say what it was for. Honestly, I am sure if I had asked, they would have given us something more detailed--I just didn't think about it at the time.) If may just be too expensive for a small store, but I would be thrilled if they updated their receipt system--right now, I end up buying some OTC items at other stores, but I feel guilty for going elsewhere because this store is the best!

Overall, this is a great pharmacy, and if you want to support local businesses, I highly recommend Preston's!

Response from this business:

Thank you Amanda We are pleased that you enjoy our Pharmacy. We have improved our receipts with the addition of a new POINT OF SALE system. This was many years in coming due to the expense for a small community pharmacy such as ours. We hope that you are as pleased with our new receipts as you our with our staff and our store. The new computer system allows us to accept FLEX CARDS! You can now pick up those OTC items along with select brands of greeting cards, and unique gifts, with your prescriptions. The POS SYSTEM sends the data to the processor which can determine which items are eligible for the FLEX account! John Eklund, RPh

I have known John for many years. I went to Preston's because my dog needed a medication that had to be compounded, and no one else would do it. John was extremely accommodating, and even told me to bring in my dog to meet him. He did the same thing for another dog I had, and that was a Great Dane. (I doubt the CVS would have had me do that!)
Not only is the pharmacy top notch, but they have great gift items, and I don't buy greeting cards from anyplace else. They have the best selection around.
If you need something they don't have, they are happy to order it. I recommend Preston's to everyone I know. Love that place.

May I offer a piece of advice. Please post your hours PROMINENTLY on your website. You need to make it easy for your customers to fine you. It is wise to have all the basic information, in the same format on each page. this

For example: On your home page http://www.prestonscare.com/ If you look on the right side of the home page you have your address and phone number. You also the words "Pharmacy hours:" after which it is blank. I saw that and moved on to search in several other locations. I then went BACK to the home page and saw that the hours were isolated at the bottom of the page in yellow. It was located underneath the photo and under the brief paragraph about Preston's.

AGAIN: On your 'Contact Us" page you have your address, information about the pharmacist and the words "Pharmacy Hours" after which it is BLANK. On this page there is no mention of your address.

No matter which page your customers land on you should make it EASY for them to find this relevant information.

I went to Preston's willing to pay higher prices to avoid the CVS down the street that is infested with piped-in music, was disappointed to find that Preston's is likewise infested.
Will someone please turn it off?

Response from this business:

Not intended to offend! I do admit that we play a local radio station in our store. I am sorry that that offends you. Our prices, however, are often LOWER than the chains. Please compare our prices. Do not assume that we are more expensive.

Preston's is wonderful. You can get helpful advice over the phone from first-rate staff. They will look on the shelf and quote a price, and hold it for you. Try to get any of that at CVS, and let's not even mention Rite Aid. They also have a nice gift section and an impressive quality of cards. Full-service, top notch products to fit every need, and they will order anything that isn't on the shelf. (although I've never been in and not found what I wanted) They also compound medications. If you live in an area close enough to use this store, you're lucky.

Thank you for your kind review! Thank You! You have made my day! This is why we are here, because of people such as you.

We've had only good experiences with Preston's. As they are not a chain drug store the hours are limited and you need to plan accordingly. There are two 24-hour stores nearby for your urgent needs. When our child was unable to swallow an antibiotic in pill form, Prestons was able to prepare a suspension syrup in a flavor of the child's choosing. With a serious infection, such as lyme, Prestons can be a lifesaver...literally.

We've also gone to Prestons for eldercare products--scooters, walkers, bed rails. They have a nice selection of cards, gifts and nice personal care products (Burt's Bees!) as well.

I ditched Preston's for efficiency.
Three times in a row I tried to get a prescription filled and they were not open. My fault, yes, unless they would bother to change their business hour recording - they don't.
I'm all for local business, but when I have to stand in long lines, wait for more than 20 minutes to talk to a pharmacist on the phone, or drive further than I should, the equation moves more toward the bigbox pharms, just for the sake of peace of mind.
Who needs personal service anyway - get prescriptions by mail.

Response from this business:

Our hours are posted and recorded I am sorry that our hours are not convenient for you. We do post our hours on our doors and they are on our store's recorded message. I work over sixty hours per week as a pharmacist. We strive to answer all questions and fill everyone's prescription in a timely fashion. It does take about 4-5 minutes to process a prescription and adjudicate an insurance claim. When several people want to wait simultaneously, we must fill the prescriptions in the order that they are received. We inform each person of the estimated wait time. We are closed on Sundays so that we can spend time with our families. Mail order pharmacies can get you your prescription within a couple of weeks. I can not speak as to how accessable the pharmacists are to the public, as I have not called them. We, however, are often asked to answer questions for individuals who can not reach "their" pharmacist. We are probably the "go to" pharmacy for your doctor, as well.

This a great private business. They are skilled pharmacists and very kind. They really take care of you...unlike the big chains. They mix compounds, which is really something special for a pharmacy to do. They have a nice gift shop. Located at Lee Highway and N. Edison Street in N. Arlington.

Response from this business:

WOW! Thank you Very kind of you to take the time to review our store in such a positive manner. We hope that we can continue to be your pharmacy. We understand that there are probably 4-5 chain stores between your home and our store. We hope that we can make your trip worthwhile.

Message from Preston's Pharmacy

Preston's Pharmacy has been serving Arlington County residents since 1934. Although we have only one location and do not have a late closing time, we feel that we offer SERVICE. Many of our customers will pass several chain outlets on their way to our store. We want to get to know our customers and their families.

We accept most insurance plans and offer discount pricing on non-prescription products- as low or lower than the chains.
