This has to be one of the BEST buffet's without going to a five star restaurant. Atmosphere was great for a buffet, but as always a tiny bit noisy and definitely crowded. Recommendations:Go there spend the money and enjoy the food

Food was great, the only thing was the condo sales person pitching time shares at the exit inside the establishment, he was posing as a employee and caught us off guard asking us how we like the food, then dived into his time share pitch this really wrecked the whole thing and will not go back

Food is $26.00 per person a little high priced.

There's a five dollar discount during lunch on Sundays, but the seafood buffet is normally $25. It is definitely worth it. They have everything... chicken, roast beef, pork chops, huge salad bar with dark green lettuce and tons of other salad fixin's. The buffet also includes a large variety of fish, cooked vegetables, stuffed clams, steamed clams, crab legs (my fav) and a full dessert bar. Go for the buffet, but wear lose pants!

Not bad. Some things on the buffet that I liked and others I didn't care for. I don't know if it's worth the price, though...a bit much.

Captain George's is a great place for a seafood buffet. They have all the seafood you can eat and at a reasonable price. They must have had a bad day for the food to be bad. I have always enjoyed the food there and recommend anyone to check it out if in Va. Beach.

I heard that Captain George's was the best on the East Coast from the tourist advisor at 19th Street in Va. Beach. I was excited to try it. I tried most of the foods and, other than the steamed crab claws, cornbread, and clam chowder, which were just okay, the food was mediocre.
The steamed clam was like chewing gum. I spit it out. The prime rib and fried scallops were tasteless. Ditto the mac and cheese. The spiced shrimp were small and did not taste fresh. The devilled crab was alot of spice but no crab taste. 8-8-10
Save your money. Compared to this, Golden Corral can really cook tasty food. I am not sure why these folks cannot. And I am a person who can even find good things about hospital food. SAVE YOUR MONEY! The service was excellent but I don't understand how people are raving about this tasteless food. How hard is it to make great mac and cheese???

For the price my family was expecting quality food. It turned out to be a major disappointment. It reminded us of very expensive cafeteria food. There was certainly quantity, but was lacking quality.

We had a terrific experience at this restaurant. I have live in this Tidewater area all my life and never had a great seafood experience like I did here. All of the food was excellent. Our waitress was great too. She was very polite, on point, and made the dining experience terrific.

Best time at this place. You have to go and check it out.

I had the pleasure of dining at Captain's George Seafood restaurant on Saturday, March 13th. It was my first time going to Virginia Beach and my first time visiting Captain's George Seafood. We arrived at about 4:00 pm and the parking lot had plenty of cars in it, which turned out to be a great sign. The food is excellent, fresh, very tasty and very good to say the least. We started offf with the salad bar which stretches for days. Then we moved on to sample almost everything on the bar from the crab imperial which was my favorite, to the prime rib, to the aspargus. Moved on to the snow crab legs which were not overly cooked and sweet. Excelent restaurant and can't wait to go back. Even plan on having my birthday party there in June. Highly recommend.

Come down to VA Beach every year with daughter for a Convention. Heard about this from others at Convention who go to George's every year on Thurs. eve. We decided to try it and boy are we hooked. Everything looks and taste very fresh! No one will go leaving hungry! Everything from soups, salads, pasta, bread, seafood galore and desserts. Plus wine & beer and other alcoholic beverages avail. Of course non alcoholic avail. too! Looking forward to my next trip. In fact going to Williamsburg in May and doing a SIDE TRIP down to VA Beach to eat! Keep up the great job!!!

I talked so much about Capt. George to my friend that he finally took me there the day after mothers day. He enjoyed it to the utmost that he wants to go again. My thing is I am a diabetic and I would like dessert after my meal also. The waiter said that they only get on order of sugarfree cheese cake and it was gone that day. It is just Monday. Please If you guys read any of this please think of atleast one dessert that is sugarfree that will be on the menu regularly. The waiter was wonderful. Where is the lobster? Other wise it was ok to me but great to him.

Listen, to each is her\his own. But if you didn't thoroughly enjoy yourself, you probably weren't at Capt. George's. We left the joint "hi fiven". In fact the next time I go (which is this spring), I'm considering bringing a wheel chair. Flat out the best seafood house I've ever been to.

Nothing on the buffet was good! Our first time at the VA Beach Captain Georges very low quaility food, crab legs are very small, soft and appeared to be old, steamed shrimp, scallops, oyster and fried shrimp all over cooked and dry. I believe the scallops are fake, side dishes bad. One positive is the fresh baked bread. I really miss the Fishermans Wharf seafood buffet in hampton :(

I came back to the place everyone used to rave about as one of the best Seafood places to go in the Mi-Atlantic, and to my surprise, the ownership/management have sacrificied quality.

The Salad table is about half of what it used to be. There used to be an entire table with every salad you could imagine, and now it's down to a selection of a few salads, which none looked inviting in a Seafood buffet restaurant.

The broiled seafood table looked pretty scary. The food was off-colored, and you couldn't tell if it was seafood or the the "mixings or sauces" served with. The Fried food table was good enough to earn one of the stars, albeit not at the standard that it was 10 years ago (or at other places in the area today).

There was an abundance of Crab Legs, where they earn the other star in the rating. If you're coming for just for the Crab Legs and nothing else, you're coming to right place. Always abundant and hot.

Service was OK. The girl that was seating us tried to put us in a room where it felt like a school cafeteria. When we asked her to sit us somewhere else, she didn't care for the request to walk an additional 10 yards.

The waiter was very friendly, and always paid attention to ensure we had something to drink.

Morale to the comparison between now and 10 years ago is that they are not what they used to be, and you may be able to satisfy your entire family somewhere else.

It has been a few years since we visited Captain Georges. This restaurant is nothing like it once was. The fried seafood seemed to come from a bag (not hand breaded) and the oysters were terrible. I do honestly prefer the fried seafood at Long John Silvers over the offering this evening at Capt.Geo. Buffet. The only item that we found above par were the steamed shrimp. I was truely sorry to see that this once excellent restaurant has drifted the way of many(cutting quality for proffit which is not necessarily there fault) .If the previous quality of buffet was offered we would have been more than happy to pay more. I must say that the service was attentive and freindly. Save your money and go elsewere when splurging for a good seafood dinner.

I don't know what "markholt" is talking about. This place is great and has been for some time. Every time my family comes down, we eat at Captain Georges. The server calling you 'honey" or "baby" just adds to the atmosphere of the restaurant and the area you're in. We have never had a complaint about this place. I love it and will continue to go back. The previously mentioned reviewer needs to remove that stick from their behind and lighten up. Not all servers are coke heads....maybe some, but not all. On top of that, they'er usually very attentive and alert, ready for just about anything.

Okay, so last night my lovely wife wanted to do something nice for my birthday and take me to a suposedly wonderful Seafood Buffet. I am warning everyone in tidewater, DO NOT GO TO CAPTAIN GEORGE's. First off the food was terrible. The salmon was completely gross and over seasoned, topped with cheese? who wants tons of cheese on a perfectly good fish? Horrible! The crab legs were cold, not "on ice alaskan king crab style cold" we're talking taken out of the steamer and left to sit for a day cold. Not to mention there must have been over 1,000 people there. the foot traffic was horrible, it was complete chaos and a VERY stressful environment to have to pay $70.
Another problem, our server gave us our drinks, and was never heard from again until I actually said something 30 minutes later. This is the problem we Tidewater people are going to keep running into time and time again, coke heads being hired as wait staff. I'm sorry but I hate judging people, but if you were one, you know what they are, how they look and how they act. I felt really bad for my wife, here she was trying to do something nice for my birthday, and this "seafood buffet" pretty much threw our money, time, and stomachs away. For the records, if you are waiting in a nice establishment, it is VERY insulting to be called "baby, sweetie, hunnay or darling," which our "alternate" waitress continued to do. I did complain to the manager who I swear thought I was going to assault him, which was not the case at all. I was complaining about what I have mentioned above, so they gave us a $20 gift card, what the hell am I going to do with that? I'm never setting foot into that place EVER again. I posted more on this elswhere and have reported the conditions of the bathroom to the city. The waste baskets were overflowing and toilet paper with feces was on the toilet seats and floor.

I went to Virginia Beach the middle of Sept , while there I ate at Captain Georges Buffet ... My experience there was superb, I had the most pleasurable time and the food was fantastic.... You definately get what you pay for ... Our Waiter RICK WIDMERE was the best waiter one could possibly want , I never lacked for anything he made sure my visit was a great one ... Even as busy as the place was he made us feel at home and like we were his only customers.... We enjoyed our visit so much we went back a second time. I plan on returning next year and Captain Georges is first on my list .....Hats off to you RICK

We were lucky cause 5 of our party were in line right as we walking in waiting to be seated so our wait was not long @ all. I have been to a few buffets in my time but this one was such let down. How much can one eat of crab legs and such in the small amount of time you have.? There were a huge selection of seafood mahi mahi, salmon, mushrooms, string beans, steamed blue shelled crabs, half shell oysters, etc just to name a few. I skipped the salad bar didn't come to eat salad..LOL I'm not a big eater and the buffet was way to expensive to me, but you did have the option to buy single orders and take out as well.
The place was LOUD. The server we had @ our table was attentive. But she still kept buzzing around rushing us...but not. The wait @ the buffet line was crazy to say the least, the line was practically back @ the entrance. There were a lot of children too which @ the buffet line is not a good thing because they are not tall enough to reach the sneeze glass...eeewwww
Overall I would only suggest Capt' G to tourist any one really wanting some real seafood needs to go some where else.

Cons: It is a buffet.., wait, noise level,

First of all, the buffet is somewhat expensive (26 dollars for adults, half price for kids ages 12-and under, and toddlers are free), but, seafood is always going to be more expenisve no matter where you go. You are paying for variety and quality. You can't go to Ryan's or Golden Corral and load up on high quality seafood. (Usually you could just find one buffet dish of uncleaned, very small popcorn shrimp) or maybe fried catfish. There are actually MORE buffet lines at Capt Georges compared to the standard buffet places. At Capt George's there are 2 dessert bars, full of homemade desserts such as boston creme pie, banana pudding, flan, carrot cake, brownies, cookies, baklava, fresh fruit, chocolate pudding, velvet cake, and loads of other baked goodies. And there is a full salad bar that's got your traditional salad bar items plus tuna salad and usually two different kinds of seafood pasta salad and cocktail shrimp. And then there is also a HUGE main bar that has stuff like fried oysters, fried clams, crab imperial, norfolk special, oysters rock, seafood stuffed mushrooms, steamed clams, steamed shrimp, fried shrimp, fried chicken that's marinated in hot sauce, barbecued spare ribs, asparagus, sauteed mussels, new england clam chowder, she crab soup, steamed vegetables, roasted chef potatoes, cornbread, dinner rolls, hushpuppies, etc. There is also another separate seafood bar that has snow crab legs, steamed shrimp, and usually mussels and clams. And I haven't even named all there is to eat to there.

A word of advice: try to go on Sunday before 4:00, that's when the buffet is at reduced price (20 dollars for adults), for those concerned with price.

Pros: Even on the busiest of nights you would only have to wait for like 15 minutes at the most, compared to 2 hours at Outback or Red Lobster

Cons: Sometimes there are so many people that it can be loud.

Actually, I can't rate the Laskin Road location. We've never had the chance to eat there. We've been to the door and inside several times, but have always left. The first time, the wait was exorbitant and we left. The next time it was just so crowded. On our last visit, we got a table, but there were way too many tables packed in. After being bumped and jostled and being just plain uncomfortable, we left without sampling the food. I wonder who we have to beseech to reopen the Pungo location? It was a wonderful experience every time we went there. The atmosphere, the view, the food! You could walk the beach after your meal or if you were lucky enough to have a boat, you could come (sort of) right on in. Not to mention it was a nice relaxing drive and you were in the mood for some good food when you walked in. Depending on what time you arrived, you could drive down the road a piece to the vineyards. I really miss the Pungo location and it's a real shame that it closed it's doors.

First to the previous review - the Capt George's in Pungo is gone - has been for a while. Seafood, by nature is salty - you will have the need for water! I enjoyed the crab legs, she crab soup, all the steamed seafood, even the raw oysters! I enjoyed it, but then someone else paid...never knew how much it was.

Pros: Seafood - steamed & raw were awesome!!

Cons: Heard the prime rib was bland

Captain Georges is highly over rated, expensive and not that great, how can anyone give a 9 to their crab legs when they are over cooked and after the buffet you wake up in the morning wanting to drink 5 gallons of water after all the salt from the sea food. But if you must go to Capt Georges, go to the one in Pungo, the scenary is much better.

My boyfriend remembered Capt.'s Buffet to have a great atmosphere, good food, and the entire place was decorated like the interior of a ship to make the experience memorable. When we went there just last week we were disappointed. The restaurant is decorated like any other buffet, the food was average, and the place was crowded. I'd say you have to eat at least 3 heaping piles of food to make up for the cost. If you do not endulge yourself in the seafood part of the buffet or don't care for crab legs then do not go! It may be great for seafood loving tourists on vacation, but I don't think I would ever go back.

My family and I used to live in Richmond and we would travel to VA. Beach JUST to eat at this fabulous restaurant. Now that I'm in Ohio, my husband and I are planning a trip to Va. Beach this summer and top on our list is Captain George's Seafood buffet. The food is worth the wait. Although you can expect to pay a pretty penny for the buffet, it can't be beat. The crab legs are cooked perfectly and the variety on the buffet is fit for a king. We can be very choosey when it comes to picking restaurants and this one has always been a favorite with us. We can't wait to go again!

As someone who lived in Va Beach for over 35 years, I've been to Capt. George's numerous times...too many to count, actually. I agree that this isn't the place to hang out on a weekly basis, but if you like seafood and a variety of it....it can not be beat. Of course, the crab legs are a big draw for people, and they should be!! They mainly have Snow Crab Legs, but occasionally they will have King Crab Legs...and they're well worth it. They'll also have fried oysters sometimes (a fave of mine). From top to bottom, this is the place to go for great seafood. I now live in the foothills of SC and I miss the quality of seafood at Capt. George's. We have good seafood here, really just good ole "fish camps", but they can't and don't compare to Capt George's.

We live in Richmond, but every time we go to Virginia Beach we make a point to come here. We came here first years ago on the advice of a friend. I was skeptical because I had been to several buffets in VB and had not been happy with any of them. I was surprised, not only is this place great for a buffet, but its fantastic for a seafood restaurant.

It was previous stated that you get King crab Legs, its actually Snow crab legs, but they are all you can eat and included in the price.

Also, I agree I wouldnt come here for a special occasion such as my mothers birthday or an anniversary. Go some place like Half Shell. But every other time go to Captain Georges.

Dont be discouraged by the long lines, they seat you fast!

I asked many people, "What's the best seafood in VB?" They said, "Capt. George's." My mom, dad, and brother drove up from Orlando for Memorial Day weekend, and it just so happened that the 26th was my mother's b-day that night. I took them out here and when it was all said and done, we weren't very satisfied with the "menu" nor the "service." Our bill was well over $130, which was completely outrageous. Granted, it's much better than your avg. buffet (ex. Ryan's or Golden Corral), but it just wasn't worth it. I'd go again, certainly, but I wouldn't take someone there for a special dinner, like my mother's birthday (and first time in town).
