Bobert D. I have been going to St. Anthony of Padua in King George for about 5 years now. I have never seen the preist refuse to give communion to anyone by the hand. Yours must be the first case in our church. Yes, it is true that the church is headed away from people getting communion by their own hand but is not there yet. I have never taken communion by the hand myself because I do not feel I am worthy to give myself communion. Personal preference.

Carlos C. St. Anthony's church is a conservative church. When I first started there, I too felt that people were not very social or as friendly as I would have expected. People are quiet and respectful before and during mass. After mass however, if you stick around and talk to people, you will find that they are very friendly. Yes, there are a few people who are not friendly, but that happens every where you go. If you come back sometime, give it another shot. Don't think that people being quiet and not talking in the church is a sign of a cult, for us, in the church is a sign of reflection and worship. Outside, we can socialize.

Definitely a throwback. I actually got into an argument with the priest after Mass because he didn't want to give communion in the hand. He insisted that recieving communion in the hand is going away...funny, they give communion in the hand at St. Peter's.
On a happy note, if you have access to Dahlgren Naval base, the chapel there has a wonderful and welcoming congregation with CCD and fellowship after Mass.

This church has a lot of appeal for people who would like to go back to the 1960s. They seem to love the Latin and stay very much to themselves. It seems more like a cult than a church. I felt very unwelcome when I went there.

St. Anthony of Padua is the Catholic church for young couples with children. There are two Catholic churches in the area, the other being St. Elizabeth of Hungary. St. Anthony's is a beautiful church with an inspiring priest. This church offers CCD classes for children and a variety of mass times. St. Elizabeth has an older congregation and parishioners needing religious education would need to travel to St. Anthony's for these services.

PROS: Young congregation
CONS: None
