DON'T JOIN! They won't let you go!

I moved to GA in July but they kept billing me until November. I called, complained and tried everything I could but they don't care at all!!! They got the money and that's it. I just disputed to my credit card company to avoid the ridiculous charge. If you don't want to come into the same trouble, don't join.

I am currently a member at the American Family Fitness facility in Fredericksburg VA. A friend of mine's son was bitten on his frontal privates by another child in the kid zone while playing in the space maze. The other child's family was informed of the incident and that is where it stopped. My friend whose child was bitten called the police. As a mom who uses the kid zone daily I would have appreciated the gym informing parents that a child was bitten in the private area. I sent my own children in the kid zone without knowledge that such a heinous act occurred. 2 other friends of mine son's both broke their legs while in the kid zone. Again no notice to parents of injuries, how do these kinds of things happen under adult supervision for such a short period of time? I asked management to cancel my contract, I no longer felt comfortable using the kid zone, they declined my request. AMFAM only cares about the money, not client satisfaction. I was treated as though my complaints were not a big deal. The parents whose child was bitten said they could get out of their contract. So I guess I need to wait until the 5 year old who still attends AMFAM kid zone, pulls my child's pants down and takes a chomp before I can then revoke my membership. What a policy!! I will never attend another AMFAM again.

This is pertaining to the AFF in Mechanicsville, VA.

I have been a long time member of AFF, since 2001. They always had the room downstairs for those who couldn't climb stais.Which I'm happy to say I have never needed until this last 11/2 years after injuring my minicus running. They took over the rooms designated for cardio and such and have it for some training programs now for that area that nothing ever seems to be going on in there.. There are no more rooms or areas that are for anyone who can't climb stairs to get to the cardiac machines. Yes they have a few scattered around the edge, possibly one of each. You feel like a spectical when trying to use them.

They have promoted with both media and inside advertisement on how well they are with their arthritis programs. I've talked to several people when they did away with those rooms, hince the few machines scattered around the outside area of the floor.

Something needs to be done and no one is listening. Yes they have the weight machines just like everyone elses but the cardio is totally unfair and if one person is one one machine forget it because one is all they have.

AFF, charges premium charges compared to othere Gyms,specifically Gold's Gym that is in the same area and very close to where I volunteer, Speaking as one person who has arthritis in one knee, is loosing weight to improve mobility and wants a gym that I and others in simular situations can use and build ourselves up, not be descriminated against, so we can walk all those stairs and be the best we can be.

My next step I suppose is to call Better Business and see what their advice is. None of these are something I want to do but I think it is blatant discrimination against anyone w/ injuries or health problems that are in contracts but can no longer be treated equally with other gym members

I hope the Corporate office is going to be more professional then the Swift Creek gym. I started my membership for that location prior to the gym opening. Shortly after I got married and added my wife to my membership. this past April they told my wife she was not on my membership and could not come back till she was added to the membership. Now they want more money to put her on an account she should already be on. Earlier this year my account was up for renewal. The young lady handling the renewal kept calling and leaving messages. When I called back she was not around so I would leave her a message telling her I needed to see the new contract before I accepted. She kept leaving a message stating just to respond back to her email and my account would be extended as it was currently. I gave up trying to meet up with her because she was never around and responded to her email stating that I would extend my membership only if it remained for the same price and as is with my wife on the account. I guess she did not care about that and insists I only had a single membership. My wife has had no problems with our "couples" membership for the past four years until this young lady started handling accounts at Swift Creek. I met with her a couple days ago and she acted as if I was inconveniencing her. She was in a rush and did not listen to any thing I had to say. I would rate this company poorly on customer service all because of this one individual and my bad experience in dealing with her. American Family had been a great company to deal with for years until she came along.

I joined the swift creek amfamfit to use the raquetball courts primarily. Not long after that, they closed them, and put in more cardio equipment. They wouldnt let me cancel my membership then.
Now, about a year later, I am being laid off from my job, and they wont let me cancel my membership. What kind of business does that? I WONT have the money to pay them, and they will clearly not let me out of my contract even though i have told them that.
So, that should give you an idea about what you are getting into.

They are great to work with if you are experienced or working out for the first time. They have fitness experts who can help you. They also have FREE childcare which is a plus. I can actually take more than a 2 minute shower! The kids love it and they have special activities for the older kids.

Lots of different ways to work out: Free weights, weight classes, aerobic classes, yoga, pilates, raquetball courts, etc... and free personal training sessions to come up with a system that works for you and your goals. A HUGE Bonus for the parents is a really great child care center. The ONLY child care my toddler has ever really loved!
