The food was the usual mass produced product that gets churned out at your run of the mill dinner theater. While Riverside has a nice space, its showmanship is lacking. Thoroughly Modern Millie was anything but. Thoroughly Boring Millie is more like it. The two leads--Jimmy and Millie respectively were so utterly boring that several of the ancient customers nearby actually FELL ASLEEP during their scenes. Both had killer voices but could not act their way out of a paper bag. The director cast himself-badly-in the show. Couldn't sing AT ALL and hit a few notes that I'm pretty sure even he could tell were awful. The only good parts were the girl playing the innocent one--Dorothy? Really a fantastic performer all around. Funny. And a shorter girl with a cutesy voice. She was hilarious. Otherwise, the whole thing was garbage. Don't bring the kids to this one. It's long with only moments of the two good performers here and there. Save yourself the $50 for Broadway. A back row seat is only $35 someone told me.

Riverside's show (10/06) was entertaining and well performed. The food served the children was horrible. Bag lunches contained the following: one fried, processed chicken patty on a white flour bun, one bag of Doritos - "Cool Ranch" flavor, one Dole fruit cup (in heavy syrup), a bag of 'Elf' chocolate chip cookies, and a juice box. This lunch contained almost nothing of nutritional value. Even worse, the lunch was full of fatty, sugary, processed foods. There was not single fresh food item.

With a little effort Riverside could improve the quality of the food served. Fresh fruit, dried fruit, pretzels, grilled meat sandwiches, whole grain breads, carrot sticks, water and/or milk are all reasonable, healthy and affordable alternatives to the food provided. A letter to Riverside's management regarding the food went unanswered.

I enjoy going to Riverside. They have wonderful children's shows which are family friendly. It's great to be able to expose children to something besides violent movies. Riverside allows the Fredericksburg area to get a taste of the theater. Matinees serve kid-friendly lunch items, my kids loved everything. It's not a typical outing, slightly more expensive than what I would normally induldge in, but it's a nice treat. If you've never seen a show at Riverside, I encourage you to give it a try.
