.

Nice medium sized church in Winchester. They have two traditional services, and one contemporary service. We attended the contemporary service at 9:45. The highlight of the service was the message, which was excellent. Finding the entrance to this church was confusing, so if you go leave extra time to get to the right door.

What was the name of the service?
Catch the 9:45.

How full was the building?
About half full

Did anyone welcome you personally?
No, but I arrived a little late. By that time there was no one at the door. I accidentally grabbed the wrong program, so I had to go back out and get the right one. There was no greeting of visitors during the service either. Following the service, we were the ones who had to do the initial introductions even though we were standing in what the bulletin called the "Greetorium". This could be that there were lots of visitors and everyone was new, or it's just not that type of church.

Was your pew comfortable?
Absolutely

What books did the congregation use during the service?
No books per se, but there was ample powerpoint.

What musical instruments were played?
There was a large praise and worship band. Many singers, guitar, bass, drums.
It was a contemporary service, and it had the makings of a contemporary band, but the music style was a little dated. If you were hoping for David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, and Casting Crowns, this is probably not the style you are seeking. The music ministry however seems very including.

Was the worship stiff-upper-lip, happy clappy, or what?
It was a perfect balance of tradition and a comfortably relaxed contemporary environment.

Exactly how long was the sermon?
About 15 minutes.

On a scale of 1-10, how good was the preacher?
9.5 Really enjoyed it.

In a nutshell, what was the sermon about?
Transfiguration on the Mount. (Matt 19)

What happened when you hung around after the service looking lost?
No one approached us, but after we started asking people with name tags where the welcome table was located, we met a few people who then introduced us to others.

How would you describe the after-service coffee?
Absent! There was a table for coffee, and I could smell some brewing, but there was none out. I did see one person who obviously had inside coffee information reaching in behind some white doors and serving herself some, but there was none for public consumption.

How would you feel about making this church your regular (where 10 = ecstatic, 0 = terminal)?
8 I really enjoyed it and we will go back.

Did the service make you feel glad to be a Christian?
Yes. Especially during communion when it was stressed that everyone was welcome.
