YOUR NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS ONE

by dwann h.

I went to the park for the first time on 7/12/08. It was a Saturday so I expected the line to be long. Parking was terrible but again, it was the weekend so that was a given. But what I couldnt believe happened while waiting in line. A young lady suddenly passed out while waiting at the entrance. She just fell completely out on the ground. A police officer came, stood over, her and called an ambulance. Then what seemed like 4 or 5 minutes later the emergency staff at the park came and gave her oxygen. Then about 6 minutes after that the ambulance arrived. I dont know if this is a normal response time, but the park is not that big.(I'm sure they got there as quickly as they could it just seemed like forever when your watching someone lifeless on the ground). Anyway that being said this is the part that killed me. You have to get wrist bands to go in the park, ok. The young lady who I just mentioned passed out had already gotten her wrist band and had it on when she passed out. Naturally while waiting for the ambulance to come the people that she came with wanted a refund as clearly they would not be going in the park now. The manager at the park would not give them a refund without the wrist band from the girls arm. They had to physically go to the girl who is basically unconscious and cut the wrist band off of her to get back the 14.50 it cost them to get in, without it he would not refund the money. Just take a second to think about how much sense that makes.

As far as the park goes(yeah I did still go in dispite all that) its ok for a quick 3 hour stop. Make sure you eat before you go. Dont drive more than about 45 min. its not worth it. The lines are not organized or really watched at all. They dont flow well, it was crazy. Would I return probably not in the near future and if I did it wouldnt be on a weekend. And of course I would try to make sure I didnt pass out unless I wanted to lose my 14.50.

Nickel and Dimed at Cameron Run

by Anonymous

Our kids(ages 5 and 10) thoroughly enjoyed the water features. But we felt totally taken by all the hidden fees and charges. We've visited many other water parks in No. VA and never had so many surprise costs added on to the fairly steep admission fee. First they don't let you take in any outside food and only allow water with no cooler(what good is that when its 90 degrees) The food service was slow and disappointing.Tax is not included in the prices, so you end up with a pocket full of change in a water park! They have ice water on the menu for $0.50 per cup with free refills, but when we were there they had run out of cups and offered no alternative. The only water fountains are over at the main entrance by the parking lot. The wave pool, probably our families favorite overall attraction, was a lot of fun with the inflatable tube, but we certainly didn't expect a rental fee of $4 each, plus tax! The staff seemed completely disinterested and unobservant when kids were out of line, cutting lines, climbing up water slides, etc... The line at the slides was very short while we were there but the lifeguards couldn't communicate effectively enough to keep things moving. I'd hate to be there on a weekend. I'd recommend just about any other water park in our area over Great Waves!

Fun Waterpark....way too crowded

by Brian D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,597

Waterpark is fun with the wave pool and slides, however, this place is way too crowded on the weekend to be enjoyable. Also has putt-putt and batting cages.

Skip the mini golf and head for the water park

by James M V. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,642

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority in Alexandria has a very nice water park that includes a wave pool, water slides and a kiddie area. There is also a snack bar. The mini golf is not great...fun, but old. The place is very crowded on weekends. It is a good value for the price.
