I was converted to Catholicism a few months after 9/11. The Eucharist was the only reason I took the RCIA to become a Catholic, because in my heart I desired to take the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. If we love Jesus, we want to become like Him, its kind of like assimilation. The truth is, once the priest says the Eucharistic Prayer, the "wafer" (to the human eyes) is truly transformed into the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. (If people are interested, they can seek proof from the numerous Eucharistic miracles around the world.) Truth does not depend on whether we believe or not faith is a gift from God. Our disbelief does not change the properties of God, but if we believe, we will have a happy and healthy life, because we are sustained by grace, life will be in good order. In the Catholic Church, Christians mature through seven sacraments Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Marriage, Holy Order, and Anointing of the Sick. It is a complete program that will take us to Heaven when we die because the sacraments will change our heart to worship God in truth and in spirit. The Eucharist is Jesus Himself - that is why Catholics have Eucharistic Adoration, and why Sundays are so important because in the Liturgy of the Word, we receive the Word Incarnate, and in the Liturgy of the Eucharist, we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus, who is the source and summit of Christian life. The Eucharist helps Christians to avoid the temptation of sin. For example, if I want to criticize a person for a mistake, but if I remember Lord Jesus was crucified on the Cross not only for me, but also for that person and for his mistake, remembering how He loved and shed His blood for us, I will become kinder towards that person, and possibly instead of criticizing, I pause and pray for him to change. It is the duty of Catholics to go to Confession (aka Sacrament of Reconciliation) on Saturdays to make sure stay in grace before we receive Communion on Sundays. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also a kind of healing. Imagine how awesome it feels when you have God inside you? - The experience is profound - I can't imagine why would people want to miss out on so precious a gift?

To the person who tried to walk away with the bread, you did nothing wrong. The false doctrine of transubstantiation or that the sacrament becomes the actual body and blood of Christ is an abomination.

the body of christ is not only just for catholics, but for catholics who are free of sin. i see way too many people in church going to accept the body of christ. i do not approach the pulpit because i know i am not yet worthy. i have strayed and recently came back to christ. you have to be free of sin or recently confessed to able to take the body of christ. it is a sin to eat the body of the lord while you are stained with the sins of babylon. think about what kind of person you are in traffic or to your wife before you approach the pulpit next time. i see you guys out there on the road driving like heathens, then you're in church on sunday taking the body of christ as tho you're a saint. SHAME ON YOU!!!

As for walking away with the Eucharist. If you did not know recieving communion in the Catholic Church is a Sacrament. As you are not catholic and have not recieved this sacrament in the Catholic Church you are unable to recieve communion. This is not again you as a devoted Christian, because that is most welcome. My father has been attending Catholic Mass for over 20 years with my family and as a methodist has never once been able to recieve communion but is given a blessing by the priest instead. I am sorry you felt this was rude but how you handled the sacrement is considered rude in the Catholic Church's view. I hope your catholic friends educate you a little more on what is taking place in the mass next time you attend mass with them :)

I am a life long Catholic. I've moved around the country all my life and have many experiences with Catholic Parishes.
Although queen of Apostles is one of the more conservatively slanted Liturgical Masses, you can be sure the Mass is authentic.
There are no improves here. It doesn't matter whether or not their are male or female servers, the point is, I have seen the Sacred Liturgy slaughtered (no pun intended) in some Catholic Churches. You will not see this happen in this parish.

As for the person who misunderstood Holy Communion, You did not walk away with 'the bread'. You took off with the body, soul blood and divinity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You do not understand the Sacrifice of the Mass. Once received in either the hand or on the tongue, it must be consumed immediately so that no sacralige, inadvertantly or not may take place.
You may have not liked what the priest did, but you were out of line and ignorant of Sacredness of Who you tried to run off with.
As for the parish, Queen of Apostles is one of the most loving,
ethnically diverse parishes I've ever encountered
Our grand child, who is of no particular religion attends school there and is accepted for who he/she is, "a child of God"

I appreciate that he/she is learning to respect the religions
and cultures of others. And I am especially appreciative of the fact that he/she will have a great footing and understanding in the Catholic faith so that he will not be ignorant of the values of the sacraments and of the Mass.

I was not impressed at all by this service nor the priest, members were not friendly and the message was sub par. After going to the alter for Holy Communion, I was individually called back by the priest since I didn't eat the bread in front of him. He ask if I was a Catholic, when I replied "no" he forced me to give the bread back even though I am a life long devoted Christian.

Queen of Apostles is a truly beautiful parish community, a body of Christians who seek to love God and neighbor in an atmosphere of the Real Presence. It is a diverse parish with members from all over Africa, Asia and Latin America.

This is not my local parish, but I have been to church there on many of ocassions for family events, etc. I know this is a fairly conservative archdiocese, however, this church is extremely conservative. They are into the pomp and circumstance and don't even allow girl atlar servers.
