This restaurant is only getting one star because I couldn't give a lower rating. When my friends and I dined at Mom's Siam it was filthy. My silverware had hair wrapped in it and there was a fly in my soup. I understand things happen

My husband and I went here last Friday. He ordered a curry dish, but while eating it noticed there were cashews in it... and he's allergic to nuts! Cashews were NOT on the menu! Thankfully, he did not have a reaction so we're pretty sure

I live right behind the place and I've only had it 4 times. It's just not very good. If it were really good, I'd have it twice a week. It's expensive and the portions are small. It's not as fresh or flavorful as other Thai I've had.

If you've never had Thai, you'll probably love it. If you love Thai, like me, you'll probably be disappointed.

unforgettable experience - in a bad way!
I was a part of a large group and although we waited about an hour to get food on the table, that wasn't the worst of it! Waitresses were OK overall. However the owner added 3 alcoholic drinks to our tab and wouldn't admit his fault. When we disputed the charges, he threatened to call the police! We ended up paying only what we consumed (this process took about 1 hour!!!!) but the owner informed us that he's going to withhold all but $5 of the 18% gratuity we HAD to pay to cover for the drinks we never ordered therefore refused to pay for. The owner stiffed the waitstaff so that $5 was all they were getting as a tip.
If you decide to go, review your bill carefully!

Pros: food decent

Cons: charging for drinks not ordered

I eat here every now and again and I always enjoy it. I've tried about 5 Thai places in Richmond and I think that it has the best food in comparsion to the few I've tried. The food is great and the food prices are reasonable. The green curry is amazing and I have a hard time ordering anything else. The service is good, every time I go the same waiter is there (need to find out his name) and he has LOTS of personality. I love the patio and the upstaits eating area is nice, the downstairs area is so-so. The main cons are the expensive drinks (in the range of $5 for a tiny glass of wine) and the parking.

Pros: Green curry, patio, good service

Cons: Expensive drinks, hard to find street parking on busy nights

The food is consistently good. The wait staff is friendly, and the food always comes out quickly. The large patio offers plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy the Carytown atmosphere.

Tonight I was jonesen for Thai cuisine and so I walked the whole 2 minutes it took to get to Mom's Siam with my flat mate. I hate to complain but I must. The experience was dreadful and the food was ... I couldn't tell you because I couldn't eat it. What I can tell you was the traditional Thai iced tea was a watered down version of that milky super sweet sure enough to give you diabetes beverage I have come to love. When the waitress asked my mate and I what we wanted to drink I told her "Thai iced tea, light on the ice". She brought me back a whole lotta ice with it so I had her take it back. She then brought me a glass 3/4 full of beverage with some cubes (my original drink with cubes poured out). This response was like spit in my face. I may be nitpicking but the drink should really come unmixed and it obviously wasn't.
The second offense is a humdinger. Fuming still from the drink incident I ordered pad thai without reading the item description thoroughly and 5 minutes later I received pad thai with chicken and shrimp on it. Usually I am asked what I want on my noodles so I didn't even think to tell the waitress I wanted it vegetarian. I told her I made a mistake by misreading the menu. She asked me if I wanted to purchase something else along with the item I already purchased. There was no way I could eat meat and there was no way I going to pay $9 for something else. Her remarks were colored with condescension and I could tell she nor the owner cared about customer service or repeat business. She shrugged and told me the owner's policy was set in stone "no returns on food unless something is wrong with it" and it was my "problem" if decide not to patronage their restaurant in the future.
So now I sit here still jonesen for Thai food with a meaty meal destined to rot in my refrigerator unless any of you carnivorous folk want to come over and take it off my hands, lol.

I walked into Mom Siam not knowing it was a Thai restaurant. Great location, great food, great bartender. Very personable. I had the Drunken Noodles w/ beef. Spicy and very tasteful.

It's not much to look at, and you won't find much about the decor that says Thai, but you will find a solid menu that is all about Thailand. The kitchen sticks to such tried and true dishes as pad thai, ginger pork and tod mun pla, or…
