Reviews for Cavalier Inn At The University

Ratings_icons Good location for visiting UVA

I stayed at this hotel for two nights while visiting Charlottesville. The hotel is located very close to UVA and is about one or two miles from the downtown Charlottesville area.

This hotel has an outdoor swimming pool which I didn't investigate, so I have nothing in particular to say about it.

The lobby of the hotel is nice and is probably above average as far as Best Westerns go. Off of the lobby is an area where a free breakfast is served in the morning -- it was an average continental breakfast with nothing too noteworthy. The hotel itself seems to be old but it appears to have been renovated recently.

The room that I had had two double beds and a television. The decorations were nothing to write home about, but it was clean and most things looked new. One caveat: though some of the rooms have doors which open to an interior corridor, the rest of them (mine included) have doors which open directly to the outside ... something which can be less-than-desirable to some people.

The one major complaint that I have about this hotel is the extremely noisy heating/cooling system in the room. The cooling system was so loud that it kept waking me up during the middle of the night and I had to shut it off in order to get to sleep -- this caused the room to get uncomfortably warm, but the next night I just froze the room before I went to bed, then shut off the A/C and it wasn't so bad. However, if it were very hot when I stayed there I might have been stuck since the windows don't open. Perhaps my room just had a particularly loud unit, but it was certainly annoying.

Overall, I had a satisfactory experience at this hotel, but it was less satisfactory than many other hotels that I've stayed at that are in the same price class as Best Western.

PROS: Nice location if you want to visit UVA
CONS: Very noisy A/C unit, some rooms have doors that open to the outside
