I decided to give King Pin Lanes a chance even after reading some of the review below and it was a completely different experience!!! I went there for our recent couples bowling night and it was super fun!!!! Taps Bar and Grill was great for dancing the night away after we bowled and the video arcade was really cool. One of our friends brought their kids and they looved the video arcade since a lot of the games were brand new! Definitely worth checking out!!! Try some of the desserts upfront!!!! Especially the cake!

I have been everywhere in Richmond/Midlothian, including Uptwon Alley and no way any other center can compare. Prices are extremely competitive, service is amazing, arcades were brand new, newly renovated bowling equipment and a DJ to ensure good music. The place was packed and we got served right away. Try it out.

Amazing place!! I celebrated my son's birthday party here and we had an awesome time! Great good, nice lounge and they even had arcade games for him and his friends to play. The bowling lanes are BRAND new. A couple weeks ago we went to Uptown Alley and it was terrible. Long lines, bad service and the shef was urinating in the woods when we left. Night and day difference between the two. Have fun!!!

This place is nice...wayyy better than Uptown Alley. I went there this past weekend for the first time and never even knew it was in my backyard the whole time. They had a DJ and music was great. Cheap prices and perfect service. Good food...hard to complain. Would definetly go back.

I had my daughters birthday party here last night and I have to say I have not had a better time....i had my wife take my daughter home after 9pm because I wouldnt leave!! A great place for kids and phenomenal place for adults. Taps Bar and Grill is there so if you want to party after you bowl you can. WIth pool tables in the back, its hard to leave. No other center in richmond/midlothian can compete with these prices and service.

I'm glad I reserved my daughter's birthday party before the last post was written because it was a different kingpin lanes. The young man at the front was really nice and got our shoes as the girls came in. We had 12 plus my daughter. They put us on our lanes right away. A young girl came over and said she would be helping with our party and she took care of us the whole time. She brought our pizzas and pop and then later the ice cream. I forgot to bring a knife for our cake and she brought us one to use out of the kitchen. My daughter got a drink cup shaped like a bowling that she loved and we had the girls sign it. They all had a great time bowling. I read the other post before I started and I have to say I thought it was the cleanest bowling alley I've ever been in and the people were real nice to us. My daughter is already going to one of her friends party there because they liked our party so much.

I wish I could give 0 stars. I imagine all positive ratings are from the current- and crappy- management/owners. Each experience at King Pin gets worse and the faces stay the same, so it has nothing to do with old or "new" management. Every time my family goes to this place they shut off the lanes before prepaid bowling games are finished, and we have to go ask them to turn them back on. If you attempt to order food or drinks, expect to stand, waiting- before ordering- for at least 10 minutes each time. The morons at the bowling counter will stare at you slack-jawed and completely unhelpful, as the women who run the food counter sit in the back, pretending they can't see you, as they eat or wipe their noses with their hands. Periodically we forget how horrible the staff are and we decide to return. When we had my daughter's birthday party there they set nothing up in advance, despite our pre-arrangements and their online claims for parties. The icing on the cake was when they presented her with a hastily written "Happy birtday" (not birthday, as is should be spelled) bowling pin- after we asked for this. I spent nearly $400 for them to be rude, unattentive, unprepared, and unsanitary. Our latest experience- tonight- was the worst. Staff pretends they don't notice when balls, pins, or re-set mechanisms get stuck, they hide or otherwise make themselves unavailable and you spend most of your time waiting- not having fun. I hope, taking the time to write this review, will indelibly print upon my memory the fact that this establishment is poorly staffed and managed and that it does not deserve my business. In the future I am willing to drive well out of my way to bowl with my children, rather than contribute another $70+ on food and 2 games of bowling. Save your money or support a bowling establishment that actually cares about its customers. I will avoid King Pin Lanes, even if it means never bowling again!

This place is a joke. I agree with the other poster.. All of the positive reviews must have been created by new management. Management that obviously knows nothing about running a bowling center.

King Pin Lanes is dirty + expensive and the staff were just plain rude. Will not come back.

Go to Bowl Americal instead.

King Pin has done A LOT of updating in the past year. They have updated just about everything in the place. I don't understand, though, how people could make some of these comments about Bowl America being sooo great. Talk about run down. Even the old King Pin was 10 times better looking than any Bowl America around that I have been in. Me & my boyfriend went bowling one Friday night at the Bowl America on Hull St.(and they have looked exactly the same since I used bowl on a league 15 years ago. They haven't updated a thing!) Anyhow, He had his own shoes, I had to buy shoes
$ 2.50. I bowled 4 games & he bowled 5 (not cosmic bowling either). The bill came to $ 50 bucks!!! Then the lady told us It was $ 5.00 a game. Are You Serious??!!! and for What???!! It was our fault for not asking the price before hand, so of course we paid it, but we figured max $ 3.00 or 3.50 a game. We learned our lesson that night. No more Bowl America!! Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in there.

This Bowling Center needs some help, My son bowls in a tarvel league that bowled at KingPin today, Because of the Travel League I get the opportunity to see many different bowling centers in the Richmond Area, We goto Bowl America centers and to AMF centers and then KingPin, As mush as I hate the bowling chains I hated KingPin more, The Employees were uneducated, front desk person was very slow, The snack bar was even worse, Trying to get a lane for the kids to practice was difficult due to people at the front desk, The manager finally Ok'ed it. Never saw this the at any other center we go to. I WOULD BE EMBARRASED IF I WAS THE MANAGER OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT. does anyone know who the manager or owner is? I would love to talk to them and get them to wake up. I don't see this center being around much longer if they dont make some drastic changes.

We have been taking our advanced PE classes to King Pin Lanes for over 10 years. We have never had anything but excellent service. Our students enjoy bowling their 2 games and eating while bowling. I had a class yesterday that must have ordered at least $50.00 worth in one period, so obviously they like the food. We've had a very good experience with the quality of the equipment and how quickly the staff fixes our mishaps, and believe me taking 160 kids over a span of 2 days, we have our mishaps. Beth the daytime manager has been extremely flexible to work with, especially this year, when we had to bring in a 7:30 class. Overall we have been very pleased with every aspect of bowling at Midlothian King Pin Lanes.

I am totally done with this bowling center, The last straw was thursday nite, the lane machine was broke and oiled the lanes really bad, which I know can happen.
my problem with it, is the response the bowling center management had with it, no manager to be found, seems he took off unexpectedly, no one eles in the building had a clue what to do, a lot of workers but no one works.
Talking to a another person who bowls at this center and has experience in the bowling industry as manager.. he puts is best, overstaffed, under managed, center is only as good as the people who surround it This will be my last year bowling at king pin, Its a shame but cneter has gone down the tubes.

I am appalled by the way the place is being ran and the customer service. The employees act like they are at a hang out and not working. You never know who is working with everyone hanging out and trying to get help at times can be impossible. I have been coming to this bowling alley for almost a decade and have never seen it as bad as it is now. The walls are 5 different colors, the staff are unhappy with their job, and the people in charge are never there. I seriously am disappointed with the direction this place is going. Granted the food menu has gotten better but the prices are still outrageous! I do not think I will be returning to this place until I hear anyone speak highly of it again!

I have been coming to this alley for at least 6 or so years. We have never had a bad experience with the "red haired" manager. She is fair, but strict. She has to be. I have been in here at least 4-6 times with birthday parties. Usually all boys ranging from 6 -12. If the children get out of hand and run, jump, scream, and bother those around them. Then she needs to get involved, because the parents obviously aren't. And when you have a good group, she will thank you for keeping things in order. She's very appreciative.

Pretend you are at home. Clean up your food, pick up your trash, take your balls back to the stands where you got them. This is a great facility, good food, reasonable prices, cheaper than all of the local food chains except fast food. ( and this is not fast food!) they are proactive to your computer and lane issues immediately. They will let you set up ahead for a party, they will out bumpers down, and even help out the bowlers on the computer screens. And it's clean!!! very!! Nice real wood lanes, clean chairs no broken areas, even the computers are not dirty.

Go there, give it a chance. If you are looking for a place to take your unruly group that you can't handle at home, don't go there.

(it does get a bit overly smoky, probably needs a new ventilation system.)

I've been a going to King Pin for a few years and I have to say I've found the staff to be quite friendly. The snack bar I've found to be just as expensive as any snack bar in this type of facility, however, I don't find it over so. The lanes are great now that they have been sanded and resurfaced...one of the only facilities in Richmond that still have wooden lanes and not synthetic.

I think the review regarding the "red haired" manager is a bit off base as I've only seen her say something to children when the adults who were present who should have addressed the situation didn't. She does have a responsibility to the other patrons. A bowling alley is not playground and there are rules and etiquette to bowling. Take the opportunity to teach your child the proper way to play the sport as well as to behave in public and you won't have any issues.

This is a NICE bowling alley! However, the customer service and level of respect given by the facilities' staff is horrible! We go there on Monday nights as a great family activity. It's affordable and fun. We always go with another family so there are 8 of us in total. While the expense of the lane and the shoes is low the expense for the snack bar is HUGE! We easily drop $100 dollars between the 8 of us before we leave. The snack bar employees are simply intimidating! They treat you like you are a pain in the neck for ordering food and/or asking simple questions. For instance: can I have some ice in a cup to go with my pitcher of soda? Or, can I have some mustard with my pretzel. Big requests, I realize.
Those things I've come to expect however the "red-haired manager" ,as I've seen in these other reviews, really needs some interpersonnel skills training. While I understand that at times she needs to inforce rules or ask patrons not to do certain things, there's a lot to be said for methods/tactics. Getting 2 inches away from my 12 and 13 year old's faces and screaming at them military style to stop making such a mess is unaccceptable! It seems reasonable to me if you have a problem with the behavior of someone's children that you address the parents about it, not the children. We were sitting right beside the girls while the manager was screaming at them and not once did she address her anger at them with us, the mothers!
Rules definitely equal maintaining order but loud, unreasonable confrontations just equal anger and rebellion. I'm so disappointed in this interaction that I haven't been able to quit thinking about it.
I get the feeling everytime we are in there that the people who work there hate their jobs, hate people, and especially hate people who come into their establishment.
The sad thing is, I will keep going there because my family enjoys it and we can afford it. The reason it's sad is, because my patronage continues to reinforce the attitude "I can treat people any way I want to because they'll keep coming anyhow". However, I WILL NOT contribute to the snack bar anymore. That degrading experience is something I will insist on our family terminating!

My children have been in the Youth league at K.P. for over 3 years. the coaching is amazing and the enthusiasm high and contageous. They are truly helping to build the bowlers of the future through our children.
Let me add, I'm amazed to see a bad review regarding the "manager, red hair". We have been there the last two years and we've seen the absolute chaos that occurs when the "Y" comes in. My kids and I have witnessed what one review calls a "rude" woman trying to bring order to disorder. 50+ people converge on the place and several have actually walked out on our youth league lanes while bowling was still in progress. The K.P. manager is constantly trying to give instruction via announcements that it appears no one listens to. They break most of the rules within moments of arrival and the league bowlers have to laugh at the stuff she and her staff has to put up with.
Perhaps more than one trip is needed for a fair appraisal because this particular manager loves her customers and we love her.

Perhaps more than one trip is needed for a fair appraisal because this particular manager loves her customers and we love her.

.

Extremely rude staff. I have been there several times with the kids. Expectations were not high for customer service and the rude woman (Manager- Red Hair) even disappointed w/ rude behavior. Very direct, commanding. We were part of a YMCA Indian Guide Group and after my interaction another father came up to me and commented on how rude that woman was. As we were leaving, one of the children commented on the "mean woman" at the counter.
